Mites on me?!!

MeAgain91 · 10/06/2018 15:57

I’m freaking out. I’ve been getting random red spots come up on me for about 4-5 months. Thought it was allergies as I was pregnant with very sensitive skin and now my baby is 12 weeks so blamed the same hormones. Nobody else has it. Once or twice I found a tiny mite like creature once on my phone screen once on my hand, then nothing. I put it down to just a general insect of sorts. A few weeks ago I found one on my baby’s head! Yesterday one on my hand and today I just put on a fresh pair of leggings, 5 mine later the waistband itches and I had a red mark - upon closer inspection there’s another one in the waistband!
I don’t understand! I have obsessive compulsive disorder, diagnosed. I hoover, steam and wash meticulously. I wash clothes obsessively. I wash my hands a hundred times a day. I’ve bought a brand new bed, mattress and sofa in the last few months from reputable companies.
I have an indoor cat and I’ve just rehomed my dog who would get on the sofa at every opportunity.
I’m absolutely gutted and mortified! I breastfeed and I bed share with my baby for half the night!
Any idea what it is or how to get rid? I’m panicking! Sad😭

Adding that I live right next to a green with a tree on it

Head lice?

alwaysonadiet1 · 10/06/2018 16:29

Fleas? Post a pic!

MeAgain91 · 10/06/2018 17:09

There’s none about when I search, it’s literally the size of a pin head!

MeAgain91 · 10/06/2018 17:09

It’s quite infrequent, less than 20 bites in total throughout

Maybe the insects you've seen are a red herring, has the baby been bitten?

alwaysonadiet1 · 10/06/2018 18:47

Where are the bites?

leghoul · 10/06/2018 18:50

Do the red spots go away again? Do they itch?

leghoul · 10/06/2018 18:51

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of mites

But pets are a definite source of problems. Is your roof/loft (if you have one) free from pests? I know someone had mites after a nest in the loft had them and they sort of fell through the ceiling

I also know lots of people see tiny insects especially at this time of year and it's certainly not mites, and lots of people have little red dots appear that are not bites

Wolfiefan · 10/06/2018 18:52

Why did you have to rehome the dog?! Confused
Do you flea treat the cat? If so with what? Any black specks in the fur of the cat?

MeAgain91 · 11/06/2018 01:25

Nobody else has been bitten. The bites are mostly on my legs and feet.
There are mice inside the walls and we cover rid as they’re in the whole row of houses and won’t just piss off.
Cat has been checked by the vet, she has notning. I had to rehome the dog due to my own separate health problems it was no longer fair on him. Very sad about it.

The bites don’t last very long but my god do they itch an swell!

Could be scabies, or bed bugsc which cause similar responses. Scabies is easy to treat with stuff from the chemist, and washing all bedding and duvets on a hot wash. If it's bed bugs you need to talk to rentokill or the council as they are a bit tricky Both usually caught from other people, or bed bugs through sleeping in an infected place, so could have been hospital bed or hotel.

Jonbb · 11/06/2018 02:10

Actually if on feet and legs, are you sure they're not fleas. They jump up onto feet and legs.

Silvercatowner · 11/06/2018 02:42

Sounds like fleas to me.

OlennasWimple · 11/06/2018 02:56

Fleas are a possibility

Or anxiety related spots, perhaps? My friend, who suffers from anxiety, comes out in strange spots when she is feeling particularly nervous

MeAgain91 · 11/06/2018 03:18

It’s definitely not fleas or bed bugs, way too small barley even visible. Beige kind of colour no bigger than a grain of salt but not scabies as there’s no rash just the very odd red spot. I had a hot shower and clothes change at midnight and I’ve still got another on my calf! My bedding is washed every single morning and I don’t use a duvet

Reaction to over washing?

sadie9 · 11/06/2018 10:53

Can you only see them with a magnifying glass? Have you been searching yourself relentlessly for them?
Have you ever had treatment for your OCD as it sounds pretty bad? Chances are the tiny bugs are not causing the random spots. Have you had episodes before where you were very worried about bugs? It would be natural for your worries to increase after having a baby.
The red itchy spots sound random and they are NOT HARMFUL to you or your baby, and you and your baby are not in danger from this.
The amount of fear you experience is not proportional to the amount of danger you are in. I know you know that, but it might help to say it out loud to yourself so that you can hear it back. Best of luck with it.

DoinItForTheKids · 11/06/2018 11:05

I don't think she's fearful and obsessive, she just wants to find out what's biting her!

sadie9 · 11/06/2018 13:10

Could they be plaster beetles? Sometimes found in newly built houses or houses that are damp. Or booklice, which are a tiny beetle. Neither of them bite though...

Wolfiefan · 11/06/2018 13:35

So sorry about your dog OP. That must be very hard.
TBH fleas are a bugger to spot unless they're riddled. Always treat with good stuff from the vets. Not frontline! Indorex is great for the house.
See a pharmacist?

Toofle · 11/06/2018 14:34

DoinIt, OP says she has OCD.

DoinItForTheKids · 11/06/2018 15:36

Yes, but her response, to my mind, isn't disproportionately excessive - who the heck wants to be getting munched on by tiny critters overnight. Since her OCD is already having her laundering sheets daily, it must be all the more perplexing for OP. From what OP has said (OCD induced behaviours aside) her reaction to the errant insects (specifically) doesn't seem that excessive to me - I'd be equally unhappy and wanting to find out what it was, and I don't have OCD.

MeAgain91 · 12/06/2018 00:32

Thank you- a large reason why my bedding is washed daily is milk stains lol but moreso from the bedding. I’ve seen a mite in my clothing exactly where and when a spot came up do it must be. I’m going crazy. As I say, definitely definitely not fleas. I’m inches away from washing all of my clothes at 90 and binning my clothing drawers as it could be why it’s only me. I’ve got a doctors appointment on Wednesday too. This is really affecting me.
