Mites on me?!!

I’m freaking out. I’ve been getting random red spots come up on me for about 4-5 months. Thought it was allergies as I was pregnant with very sensitive skin and now my baby is 12 weeks so blamed the same hormones. Nobody else has it. Once or twice I found a tiny mite like creature once on my phone screen once on my hand, then nothing. I put it down to just a general insect of sorts. A few weeks ago I found one on my baby’s head! Yesterday one on my hand and today I just put on a fresh pair of leggings, 5 mine later the waistband itches and I had a red mark - upon closer inspection there’s another one in the waistband!
I don’t understand! I have obsessive compulsive disorder, diagnosed. I hoover, steam and wash meticulously. I wash clothes obsessively. I wash my hands a hundred times a day. I’ve bought a brand new bed, mattress and sofa in the last few months from reputable companies.
I have an indoor cat and I’ve just rehomed my dog who would get on the sofa at every opportunity.
I’m absolutely gutted and mortified! I breastfeed and I bed share with my baby for half the night!
Any idea what it is or how to get rid? I’m panicking! Sad😭

Do you have hamsters? We had mites when we had them. The mites were tiny and biege (unless they had just fed in which case they were red) and fucking everywhere.
I’d guess that if you don’t have hamsters then the mice in the walls may be riddled with mites. We treated our hammies regularly but only got rid of them after the hamsters died off and we removed the cages from the house.
I didn’t notice red marks on us (people) but I was very itchy. The dog really suffered though. He did get red marks and lost a bit of fur from excess licking. The cats seemed to be immune.

I hope you get it sorted. It really does drive you crazy

Thank you! No other animals just an indoor (treated) cat and a lizard who keeps to himself in the vivarium. It’s gotta be the mice - one of the bastards fell out of the loft hatch when my OH opened it! Glad it was dead already! On a row of 6 houses I’m the only one trying to eradicate them, I’ve got no chance.

Iron anything which can be ironed. That will kill anything.

mrscee · 14/06/2018 17:12

Sounds like fleas, my cat got fleas and I was the only one in the house that was affected.

MeAgain91 · 14/06/2018 17:37

My iron is broken but everything has been washed at 60 and tumbled high, steam cleaned or binned! There’s no way it can be fleas, I’d see them and my cat has just been checked over at the vet, nothing was found and she was treated regardless

If she was treated with frontline it doesn't work.

Google: mouse mites... I found a solitary live baby mouse under my sofa a week ago. My traps haven't caught any more and I've seen no droppings, so I hoped it was dealt with. Today, whilst on that sofa, I noticed the tiniest spec of dust 'crawling' up my phone. I squished it and put it put of my mind but now I'm worrying that it could be one. Goodness knows what you're supposed to do about them or how long they hang around. Hopefully Google will advise...

Mrswhatshisname · 14/06/2018 17:59

Also, can the council help with the mice, being as neighbours are involved?

MeAgain91 · 14/06/2018 19:14

@mrswhatshisname that’s where I found the first one! I’ve never seen a mouse but a year or so ago there was mouse poo in the kitchen so I boarded up the hole in the back of the cupboard 🤢 the Council said they can come and look for £80 but won’t look in, under or behind anything. So unless they pop round when Jerry is sat on the sofa with his pipe and slippers I very much doubt they’d find anything!

Can't believe the council won't help when it's clearly a problem with/ for the neighbours too. I was surprised how cheap the mouse traps were on Amazon, and if nothing else it's reassuring me that there's nothing here now.
I just read that Indorex spray is effective for mites (Also Amazon). I have some from when I had a cat so will be dousing round all the edges of my home tomorrow. Fingers crossed. xx

MeAgain91 · 14/06/2018 20:37

I know, it’s awful! Next door but one has had them running around his kitchen! Normally very peaceful but I’ve bought some mouse traps from Amazon. I’m really asthmatic so I’m so scared to use any chemicals or sprays and hate using them around the baby but I’ll bear it in mind thank you. Good luck Sad

Update: they may be attracted to electronics as my son left a book by the tv and a big one ran across the page this morning!

MeAgain91 · 15/06/2018 19:53

@kioraadora I didn’t think they bite?

MeAgain91 · 16/06/2018 22:35
