Anybody have this and got it treated? Really worried. Thanks

I had it almost 40 yrs ago, It's nothing to do with cancer. Google it- NHS site has good basic info. It's really common - it's just cells from the cervix growing outside the cervix so they can bleed sometimes as they are fragile. They are either left alone or treated.

sillysausage16 · 06/06/2018 22:50

I have this but it doesn't really bother me so had no treatment. Doctor looked at my cervix as I had a tiny bleed between periods and diagnosed it then. Recently had smear and nurse confirmed it, the results of which were clear 😊

AndInOtherNews · 06/06/2018 22:57

I have this too. It caused bleeding during my second pregnancy and sometimes causes light spotting after sex or between periods. Bit of an inconvenience but wouldn't warrant treatment in my case.

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:02

Hi guys thanks for reassuring. Queen of nights did you have treatment for yours? I have been told i have erosion and then i read a post about it leading to cancer. Women saying they had it and it turned to cancer years later on jos crrvical trust website. Im so stressed and scared im going out of my mind.

Extremely common in women who have been on the pill for quite a few years.

It's so common I always find it really odd that it's not better known about. Just another thing women don't talk about!

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:04

And another lady on a different website posted if you look at women with cc they had ersoion 90% of the time. Which just threw me im so scared

Im not on the pill or pregnant but my hormones have been out of whack causing me breast pain too. This erosion has taken over my life tho i cant seem to get it out of my head. Im getting it cauterised by diathermy i asked my gynae at consultation if it caused cancer he said no but cant help think worst as i read a few stories online

I had this after my daughter was born. Caused irregular bleeding which resolved as soon as it was treated. I went in and had my cervix cauterised (think that’s how you spell it) and I’ve had no problems since.
Try not to worry, as far as I’m aware it’s not a sign of cervical cancer.

egginacup · 06/06/2018 23:08

I had one about 10 or so years ago- it was annoying but it eventually went away so no need for surgery. I have regular smears and all clear. Don’t stress yourself out reading things on the internet!

Yes and 99% of people in prison have eaten bread therefore bread causes crime.

Cervical erosions are very common, many people won't even realise they have one. It's not surprising that many women who have cervical cancer also have evidence of erosions, but it's a bit like saying everyone who has skin cancer has had a sun tan at some point in their lives . Yes they probably have, but the vast majority of people who have had sunburn / tanned won't subsequently develop terminal skin cancer, and even if they do the sun damage won't necessarily have been the cause.

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:15

Hi i cantstopeatinglol. Have you had normal smears after. If you dont mind me asking and how long has it been since you had the erosion

AgentCooper · 06/06/2018 23:22

Nellie, I had cervical erosion constantly while on the pill. I had it cauterised three times. Only when I came off the pill did it stop, but it started again in earnest during pregnancy (I was at the Early Pregnancy Unit loads with bleeding).

I was always told it was nothing to do with cancer at all. My mum had it in exactly the same circumstances as me and she's still in fine fettle at 63, no longterm problems from it. I had to get 6 monthly smears at one point because the bleeding was really pretty heavy and they just wanted to be extra safe but none of my smear results have ever been anything other than normal. Please don't worry, just talk to your doctor if you have questions or fears - that's what they're there for Flowers

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:26

Thanks agent cooper. How old were you when you first had erosion if you mind me asking

OP posts:
AgentCooper · 06/06/2018 23:28

Not at all, Nellie, I was 21. And was on the pill with bleeding until I was 29. No bleeding between coming off and getting pregnant at 30. Smile

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:28

Great news about your mum. Did she have the erosion for few years? I just cant stop assuming the worst i have been to doctors they told me its nothing to worry about but i keep reading stories which worries me sick. I have severe health anxiety which doesnt help at all xx

OP posts:
Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:30

So you had the erosion at 21 and cauterised a few times and your now 30 and no problems for 9 years. Sorry about the questions i just feel low and like talking to people who know what i mean

Hi! I had this and had my cervix cauterised last month; if you have any questions feel free to PM me x

lunatunes · 06/06/2018 23:32

I've just been told I have this. I've been told to see how I get on over the next couple of months and if it's bothering me he will do something with silver nitrate which can be done as a normal appointment at my hospital. If that didn't fix it I think he said he can cauterise it under general anaesthetic. I'm not worried, my dr assured me that it was nothing serious.

dragonmummy17 · 06/06/2018 23:33

I have it. They found it because I had some bleeding after dtd. Only really caused a problem in early pregnancy... I too was at the epu a lot for bleeding. My most recent smear was normal but they sometimes struggle to get a sample.

Nellie1234 · 06/06/2018 23:37

Thankyou everyone. Yh i had colposcopy and told it was erosion and we can treat it of the bleeding is causing problems. I then left it then later i had bleeding again so went bk they said they would cauterise it using diathermy and it will get rid of the bleeding. Gynae said they are extremly common and nothig to worry about. But can stip thinking about it i dont know why xx

@Nellie1234 sorry for not replying last night, I was knackered with wee DS!

The erosion actually started at 21 and continued on and off until I came off the pill at 29 and I had it catteries three times during that period. All smears normal. When I've been off the pill and not pregnant it's not bothered me at all.

I think tbh it's there all the time (I've always had quite a bit of discharge and will usually get a wee bit of blood after a smear) but it's not bothering me at all right now and hasn't done since about my second trimester with DS (about a year ago now). And yes, my mum was exactly the same - she got kept in overnight in hospital when PG with me because of bleeding but it was always just the erosion and as I say she is grand, never had an abnormal smear either Smile

AgentCooper · 07/06/2018 09:36

Catteries = cauterised

Nellie1234 · 07/06/2018 09:43

Oh no problem xx thankyou for replying to me and reassuring me xx

Do you think you may have a health anxiety issue?
Everyone is telling you it's common and has no llink to cancer at all but you are still anxious.

Cancer is caused by HPV. Erosions are caused by cells from inside the cervical canal overgrowing often caused by the Pill or pregnancy.

You've got to get this idea that it's linked to cancer right out of your head- now! :)
