I went to the GP & said I have Gallstones, IBS and I'm menopausal - she said I can only treat one thing

So I showed her the large(ish) lump in my tummy and said well I think one of them caused this - can you just treat the one you think it is Grin

But instead of one of those three causing it - she suggested it's a 4th possibility a hernia

Which will be fun!

My uterus is enlarged, firm and very high

So now I wait for a scan

OP posts:
welshmist · 12/06/2018 22:07

You really are going through the mill OP. Fingers crossed the scan will solve the mystery.

KatyMac · 12/06/2018 22:20

I think at this stage fibroids are a possibility

Scan is at 8:50 on Saturday

OP posts:
welshmist · 12/06/2018 22:28

Fibroids sounds like a strong possibility, still blooming rotten luck for you. Wishing you luck on Saturday. (hugs)

KatyMac · 12/06/2018 22:32

TBH Saturday is an inconvenience!!

DD is performing in her first proper professional job (not counting panto) and we will go straight from the hospital to the train station to go to London to see her Grin so they better hadn't keep me waiting (actually I'll have about 3 hours but....)

I've never been to an actual festival!!

More worride about the standing round for ages on grass - that isn't good for me at the best of times and right now? I'd rather not!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 13/06/2018 14:58

feeling a bit rough today - wondering if I have a UTI

If it's still here tomorrow - I'll go see the surgery I think - my back/kidneys are bloody killing me!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 16/06/2018 10:35

I have a 5cm cyst on my ovary which will be monitored & a 3cm something in my uterus – which might be a fibroid but it’s the wrong shape and it might be scar tissue.

So wait for another appt

OP posts:
welshmist · 16/06/2018 13:28

Katy you poor lass, may I ask how old you are?

KatyMac · 16/06/2018 13:58

50 - feeling about 70 I reckon!

OP posts:
welshmist · 16/06/2018 14:05

At 50 I would be considering having a complete hysterectomy to be honest. Three friends did younger than you and said it was the best thing they ever did. Why do our bodies turn on us. Having said that to be fair the prostate can become a huge elephant in the room at this age. Men are not as upfront unfortunately.

KatyMac · 16/06/2018 15:04

How would that affect menopause/oesto/all the other getting old stuff?

OP posts:
welshmist · 16/06/2018 16:36

You are on the cusp at 50. Average age for meno. 52. Friends were given hrt type stuff but gave it up of their own volition after a year or so. Two of them felt so much better, the third had odd cancer indicator results which resulted in her opting for the op.

KatyMac · 16/06/2018 18:36

Hmm we will talk - I bet we are about 3 months from a "have you thought you might be depressed" diagnosis

OP posts:
QueenoftheNights · 16/06/2018 20:19

A hysterectomy is a major op and you don't do it 'just' for a small fibroid and a small cyst. You could be left with far worse things. No dr would do the op just for those reasons unless there were more issues around them.

I had both the things you had. I have a fibroid ( 50% of women do) which is smallish and I have no issues with it, I had an ovarian cyst which was watched for 2 years.

These things are very common. Having your womb removed won't actually change things that much and you will go straight into menopause if they remove your ovaries.

These two things shouldn't make you feel as bad as you seem to be so there must be something else going on.

KatyMac · 16/06/2018 21:03

Well whatever else they need to do, they will investigate the something that is the wrong shape for a fibroid according to the sonographer

He wasn't happy, he had someone else in to check and bicornate and unicornate (unicorn??) were used then they moved to the idea that it could be scar tissue

I like the idea of a unicorn uterus Wink

Only if it's a pink one! Grin
Hope you get some answers.

KatyMac · 16/06/2018 21:52

He didn't mention any sparkles Sad

Just to update

I'm off on a MRI trip Wednesday and back to Gynae on Friday to discuss the results

Which, to be honest, I don't much like the sound of

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 25/06/2018 21:37

Can I ask how old you are? Is the “IBS” new?

I ask because women over 40 don’t really get new onset IBS and some gynae cancers can be misdiagnosed as IBS initially. Not for a second saying you have cancer, but please have a look at the symptoms for ovarian and uterine cancer and if you’re concerned about ovarian cancer request a CA125 blood test.

Again, im most likely barking up the wrong tree but I wish my mum had been told about this sooner Flowers

SinkGirl · 25/06/2018 21:39

Ah, I should have RTFT - very glad you’re having a scan to see what’s going on

ScaredPAD · 25/06/2018 21:47

Good luck x

KatyMac · 25/06/2018 21:48

The IBS is very very old - 25yrs plus - but in the last 2 yrs or so it has got much much better......(I mena it's still very bad just not as bad as it was)

My CA125 is very slightly up 41 or something (so hardly there at all)

My ultrasound led to the MRI (which is disturbing - but I'll live with it)

The appt 2 days later (even more disturbing)

& now I have had to tell DH...as I probably won't want to cycle home from the hospitl on Friday if it isn't good news - poop!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 25/06/2018 22:18

Thanks ScaredPAD
