Whats your best tip/product for bad nappy rash?????

PinkChick · 19/05/2007 20:20

one of my mindees(under 2yrs) has very very bad nappy rash lately, to the point of it bleeding.
mum was prescribed a kind or cortisol(sp) cream for it, but IMO is not help, she has sudacrem but was told to use this other instead.
it got to the point last week that i was either bathing her when she dirtied her nappy or using warm wet flannel instead of wipes (as they are perfumed, so told mum/dad i would suggest they go for non prefumed), but parents are quite young so i would like to offer some advice, but all i could think of was what ive just said!
wahts worked for you?

Camomille tea - brewed quite strong, then left to cool and used with cotton wool to clean the area.

BettySpaghetti · 19/05/2007 20:23

metanium cream -but only use the tiniest amount

2Happy · 19/05/2007 20:23

Metanium- its THE best for nappy rash.

You can get it from Boots etc

tiredemma · 19/05/2007 20:24

!!!! x posts!

Nemo2007 · 19/05/2007 20:24

metanium cream spread thinly with sudocrem over the top. My DD1 has nappy rash like you have described often when teething etc and that combo always works for her.

I have just used water and cotton wool in the past, and waited till dry before putting nappy back on (using light application of Johnsons Baby Powder if approved by parents). Also changed nappy much more frequently than usual!

Kamillosan is great.

Well I would say that after it's cleared up, use zinc & castor oil at every change and it shouldn't resurface.

StinkyPete · 19/05/2007 20:26

leaving the nappy off as much as possible; this is obviously more difficult (or at least potentially messy) the more mobile the child is. I used to use a pampers care sheet to lay baby on for a bit.
use water and cotton balls instead of wipes.

fuzzywuzzy · 19/05/2007 20:26

strongly brewed camomile tea with a few drops of lavender and tea tree oil in, use as a wash at every nappy change and allow to air dry, works very quickly.

I tried metanium it mades my dd worse.
i always use morhuilan cream from the chemist counter its reasonabley priced and works a treat on nappy rash and all other minor cuts and scratches

Nemo2007 · 19/05/2007 20:27

Oh also agree about letting them air a little aswell. Then before a nappy on apply the creams.

macmama73 · 19/05/2007 20:28

I always used Weleda Nappy Change Cream. It is really good and heals the nappy rash quickly (normally within a day or two at the most)

nappy change cream

PinkTulips · 19/05/2007 20:48

my dd's bleeding nappy rash wouldn't go away with any creams and turned out to be a reaction to cow's milk.

has she started eating anything new around the start of the nappy rash?

Bubble99 · 19/05/2007 20:49

Metanium. Magic cream.
