Skyler · 18/05/2007 20:43

. Did he not speak to you???

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 20:44

Demand a colposcopy straight away?

Skyler · 18/05/2007 20:44

Are you OK?

OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:45

no he did - infact he was like TOP gynae in leeds teaching hosps and i have previousl found him intimidating - today he treated me like i can only imagine private patients get treated

anyone had colposcopy????????

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 20:49

But you are getting the colposcopy asap, aren't you?

Skyler · 18/05/2007 20:50

Glad it seems you are being looked after now. I think medical notes can seem very blunt. My poor stepdad had a funny turn coming round from an anesthetic and had Warning - Violent tendancies written on his notes at the bottom of the bed.My Mum read them. Luckily we could laugh about it as he is the most gentle man.

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 20:50

I've had one. What do you want to know?

OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:51

11th june depending on my cycle.... do you think its worrying - i am UNHEALTHILY laid back considering his words

OP posts:
OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:52

Thanks lynette
Just 'why ' as opposed to just pap smear
is it 'just looking' or biopsy??

OP posts:
kookaburra · 18/05/2007 20:53

I've had one too, no bifg deal, legfs up in stirrups, he looks around with a cameraand chats, not as painful as a smear imho, maybe because this is his day job, no just the nurse doing between vaccinations?
Lynette Scavo, I envy you your name!!!!!!

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 20:53

The whole point of a colposcopy is to get rid of anything on your cervix that shouldn't be there, such a pre-cancerous cells. ( I think!) Why were you seeing the gynae?

OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:54

but why would i have one are they just looking for cancer ?

OP posts:
OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:55

i see the gynae fo post coital bleeding - i have always had it

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 20:55

Do you want me to tell you what happened when I went for mine?

canmummy · 18/05/2007 20:55

Urgent just means he wants it done asap rather than putting it on a routine waiting list that you could go to the bottom of. It must be worrying when it's written on your own case notes though. Do you mind me asking which consultant it was - I used to work with them (a few years ago mind you) in both nhs and private sector

TheOriginalXENA · 18/05/2007 20:56

Why didn't he do the colposcopy today?
I had a colposcopy, biopsy and the treatment all in one go 10 days ago. It was my first appointment with the gyne..

Skyler · 18/05/2007 20:58

No don't worry. It is just the next step at the moment.

Sugarfree · 18/05/2007 20:58

I've had one too.Not so bad.Better than a smear really(I probably don't mean 'better'!) but they get better access so there's less 'rummaging'.
They swab your cervix with iodine (I think) and have a really good look with a colposcope(microscope thing). Think they also take another smear.
I also think if they see anything they can treat it there and then sometimes.I had to go back later for a loop diathermy(which wasnt a whole lot of fun but that was due to the pig of a gynae not the procedure itself.)

TheOriginalXENA · 18/05/2007 20:59

They are looking for pre- cancerous cells. Women who have the severest type of changes only 50% go on to actually devolop cancer if left untreated.

OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 20:59

canmummy Mr Glass

do you know him?

OP posts:
Skyler · 18/05/2007 21:00

Colposcopy is just a closer look with magnifying glass looking closer for changes and pre-cancerous cells. And poss biopsy on some occasions I think.

OtterInnit · 18/05/2007 21:00

lynette yes please....
