Painful green patch on roof of mouth?!

Bubblegum89 · 13/05/2018 16:57

On Friday morning, I had what felt like a blister on the roof of my mouth. It was sore but not too bad. Yesterday it was no longer raised like a blister but it was more painful and when I ran my tongue over it, it stung like a graze but felt like there was lots of tiny bumps. It’s very painful to eat/swallow in that area. Today it’s still painful and I’ve looked in the mirror using the torch on my phone and I can see a small patch of green in the part that is sore. It still feels like it’s lots of tiny bumps rather than one big bump. I’ve been using bonjela (stings like hell) and corsodyl mouthwash neither of which are doing anything. It’s getting me down as I can’t even eat properly without forcing myself to swallow on the opposite side.

What could it be? And what could I try to ease it? I thought it could be a cold sore but why would it be green?? I’m going to try and get to the dentist in the week anyway but would like to try anything I can in the meantime to help it not hurt so much!

Anyone?

Not heard of that one.

Definitely a dentist and / or a GP soonest.

Hope it's quickly and easily fixed.

ArdnaGreine · 13/05/2018 22:59

Get to a dentist in the morning. Paracetamol/neurofen in the meantime.

RaininSummer · 13/05/2018 23:03

No idea what it is so get it checked asap but in the meantime maybe rinse mouth with warm salty water.

PlateOfBiscuits · 13/05/2018 23:11

Could maybe be thrush but I would heave imagined that would be on your tongue.

Get to a dentist or GP tomorrow.

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 10:18

Thanks for the replies, got a dentist appointment tomorrow afternoon as it’s the earliest they could fit me in. I have googled frantically and absolutely nothing comes up for green patch on the roof of the mouth, I am just totally confused as to what it is. And because I have no idea what it is, I have no idea how to treat it! I’ve been using the corsodyl but honestly it’s not even touching it. Bonjela stings for a few seconds but then I’m assuming me swallowing is just washing it away. I just want to be able to eat!

I think there's a stick on patch for mouth ulcers??

MrsMozart · 14/05/2018 12:14

Can you get to a pharmacist today?

RadioactiveTeddyBear · 14/05/2018 12:27

Is it dark green, light green or bright green? Sounds like might be some sort of infection, especially with pain, hope you get it sorted soon.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/05/2018 12:34

If it's infected, swishing salty water round is your best bet - and if it's not, it won't do any harm. I would put bonjela or anything else on it till you know what it is.

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 13:48

It’s a lightish green. I do have that taste in my mouth that you get when you have a tooth infection so I do think it’s infected but just not sure why or what it is. I’m not able to get to the pharmacy today but I’m going to give saltwater a go. It’s just so weird, it just appeared out of nowhere. Hopefully the dentist will know what it is!

I'd give 111 a call, simply because it's in your mouth and sounds (I'm not a medic!) infected.

AdoraBell · 14/05/2018 14:08

Glad you’ve got a dental appointment. I wouldn’t want to wait but if you can’t get a pharmacy today then you don’t have that option. In the meantime I would use salt rinses.

Hope they can sort it tomorrow.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 14/05/2018 14:18

I was at the GPs this morning for one of these on the back of my mouth... mine was an infected mouth ulcer. Yuck. On penicillin. Hope you get it sorted, OP!

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 23:05

I was going to call 111 and see what they said but I’m not ill or anything, I feel fine other than it hurts to eat because everything grazes past this damn sore patch so I knew they probably wouldn’t say anything other than use a medicated mouthwash/salt wash. I just got over a severe bout of septic tonsillitis where I ended up in hospital. Couldn’t eat properly and had to take penicillin. Just as I’ve recovered and can eat again, I get this, typical. Hopefully the dentist can sort me out tomorrow. I suffer with health anxiety so googling ideas for treatment has just dragged up a lot of mouth cancer articles which has put me a bit on edge also.

Lorelai ouch, sounds painful! Glad you got something for it. Mine is less raised and painful when I wake up in the morning but once I’ve started eating/drinking it starts to get worse, it’s not getting much chance to heal I guess. As awful as penicillin makes me feel (and I only came off a course of it last week) it’s got to be better than this lol

Could it be ANUG? Stands for acute necrotic ulcerative gingivitis, otherwise known as trenchmouth. Ive had it before and it sounds similar. It was very very painful, and needed special antibiotics that are just for the mouth. Are you immuno-suppressed right now in any way? Sorry i don't want to aggravate your HA but its not all that common. But easily treatable.

aimees75 · 14/05/2018 23:20

Bubblegum just to add i also got mine during/ after tonsillitis. I didn't realise the tonsillitis had ended and this had started and so didn't get proper treatment until i was in complete agony.

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 23:29

aimees not immuno-surpressed, no. I’ve never heard of trenchmouth (had to have a google!) Did it just suddenly appear for you? This thing seems to have come out of nowhere. It doesn’t bleed and I don’t feel ill or have a fever or anything. I’m just so baffled by what it might be. I suppose that it could be linked to my tonsillitis, it was bacterial not viral so maybe the antibiotics weren’t strong enough or something. Who knows, it’s very weird. When I run my tongue on it, it has a kind of metallic taste. I’ve suffered a lot with infected wisdom teeth (one is impacted and they refuse to remove it for some reason) and I’m getting that same gross infection-y taste in my mouth I get when my tooth gets infected. If it was on my gums I wouldn’t be so confused as I’m an aggressive brusher lol but it’s in such a random place. How long did it take your mouth to heal after you started taking antibiotics?

Could they be canker sores?

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 23:44

BetterEatCheese I don’t think they’re canker sores. The patch itself is flat with multiple tiny bumps on whereas I imagine canker sores would be much larger and one big raises sore. Mind you, I have zero idea what it could actually be so I can’t rule out canker sores!

OP posts:
Labradoodliedoodoo · 14/05/2018 23:52

Anug.

Bubblegum89 · 14/05/2018 23:56

Can you get ANUG on the roof of your mouth? Just googling and it says you get it on your gums, usually in the spacing between your teeth and I’m reading the signs/symptoms and I don’t seem to have any of them. Other than pain, obviously. I wouldn’t be bothered if that’s what it was though, I’d rather know what it was than still have no idea

BetterEatCheese · 15/05/2018 06:45

Hmmm... Dr Google says cold sores on the roof of your mouth present as lumpy. Hope you get seen soon to put your mind at ease and get some pain relief

FrangipaniBlue · 15/05/2018 06:59

Burn?

I've had one from pizza that was too hot and the cheese stuck to the roof of my mouth, the next day it was blistered and then the skin went rough/bumpy and eventually started to peel away.

It hurt to eat for a few days and did taste metallic.

Mrsmorton · 15/05/2018 07:03

Is it a fruit pastille?

Second that you need to go see someone, have you called 111/dentist etc yet? Can't quite tell.
