Plantar Fascitis cute?

Dalesgirl16 · 15/04/2018 18:54

I have it in both feet but badly in one. I saw a podiatrist who gave me calf exercises to do 100 times a day which I don't have time for with a baby. Please can anyone let me know how they cured themselves of it. I can hardly walking after sitting or sleeping. I think I got it from being barefoot all the time at home since I had baby 17 months ago. I have ordered some Epsom salts to soak feet in and done heel pads from Amazon. Do you wear them even in slippers if you are at home all day?

I got it out of the blue after a year of wearing only flip flops . In the end I think what sorted me out ( or at least coincided with it stopping) was buying some Birkenstocks and staying out of my flip flops. I didn’t wear them indoors.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 15/04/2018 19:00

Best thing that worked for me was acupuncture, which is something I never thought I'd be saying

Also shoe insoles, which also helped my back pain.

My podiatrist recommended fitflops too

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheT1meG0es · 15/04/2018 19:01

I used a combination of orthotics, Birkenstocks, never going barefoot, massage on a spiky ball plus a few calf stretches and massage with a roller bar before bed. Took a few months though.

Boooommm · 15/04/2018 19:01

Acupuncture worked really well for my colleague who had it for years. That and good shoes.

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2018 19:03

The only thing that permanently fixed mine was custom made orthotic insoles.

littlewoollypervert · 15/04/2018 19:05

I've had it for 8 months and it's just going away now.

  • exercises
  • strap your feet with kinesiology tape (lots of YouTube vids on how to do this)
  • insoles in every pair of shoes
  • never go barefoot - keep a pair of shoes/slippers beside the bed
  • voltarol helps sometimes
  • skechers shape ups really helped me
  • boots with heels for outside the house
  • I haven't tried rolling a bottle of water under my foot but apparently it helps
diymania · 15/04/2018 19:05

I get it on and off, although never too badly. I find wearing trainers in and out of the house - even as slippers. So basically never going barefoot/flat footed without cushioning for a few days/week.

And calf stretches in bed before getting up help (leg in air, belt/strap around foot to increase stretch)

TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly · 15/04/2018 19:08

Get some properly supportive slippers for around the house - I have Totes Isotoners which are pretty good.

Eolian · 15/04/2018 19:09

I have it in one foot and it's finally getting better. In addition to the above advice, I use an ice pack if I've walked a long way, or been on my feet all day.

I have been seeing a Chinese acupuncturist lately for other reasons and he hadn't heard of plantar fasciitis when I asked on Saturday! The podiatrist made me some custom insoles in November for some other complex feet problems I have and I can't wear them as it's so painful to wear them with plantar fasciitis. She said when I've gone all my stretches for a few weeks the pain will go but I just can't go all these exercises. For those who are never barefoot at home what do you wear please?

Cure, not cute by the way!

I've got Crocs for slippers which are so comfy and a real relief.

boymum9 · 15/04/2018 20:07

Acupuncture worked great for my DH and also these socks that basically had a strap that pulled his toes up (I'm sorry I don't know what they're called, I'm sure a google search would throw something up) and he wore those every night!!

boymum9 · 15/04/2018 20:08

Also freeze a small bottle of water and use it to roll and massage your feet

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/04/2018 20:10

Fitflops and MBTs are your friend plus standing on a stair step with your heels hanging off (hold onto bannister if necessary ). This stretches the calves.

cansu · 15/04/2018 20:13

I was in agony for ages until I bought some orthotic insoles from a pharmacy - they cost about 25.00 and were uncomfy to start with but dealt with the foot pain after a few days. I don't wear them all the time now but as soon as my feet start playing up I pop them in and they work really well.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/04/2018 20:15

I wore Crocs in the house, do some stretches and try wearing these FootAngel supports at night, I got them off Amazon.

LifeIsFullOfKumquats · 15/04/2018 20:20

I wear Fitflop slippers at home, and they really help with it.

ShotsFired · 15/04/2018 20:26

@Dalesgirl16 I have been seeing a Chinese acupuncturist lately for other reasons and he hadn't heard of plantar fasciitis when I asked on Saturday!

You need a dry needling / Gunn method / intramuscular acupuncturist.

They are very different methodologies.

Dry: www.moveforwardpt.com/Resources/Detail/dry-needling-by-physical-therapist-what-you-should

The second one has pretty much "cured" me of agonising PF. But stretches and the like DO help keep it at bay.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheT1meG0es · 15/04/2018 20:46

I wear slipper boots with Boots orthotics at home in winter, Birkenstocks in summer. Crocs really aggravate my PF, too soft.

PoshPenny · 15/04/2018 21:14

I got some fitflop lace ups a bit like trainers and they cured the PF which I'd had for over a year. It's never come back. I wore the fitflops all day every day.

blametheparents · 15/04/2018 21:20

I had PF very badly in my right foot for a year. Went to see a physio who referred me for electro shockwave therapy. This was the only thing that helped.
I’m now very careful with footwear - sorbothane insoles in shoes and trainers / supportive footwear at all times.
Good luck - it can be very painful and hard to get rid of.

Dalesgirl16 · 15/04/2018 22:37

Thank you all for so much advice.

poshpenny can I know which lace up fit flops you have? I have googled and seen some plimsolls?

I can't believe I wasn't told any of this.

Don’t go barefoot. Wear supportive slippers - I wear Fitflop slippers in winter and their flip flops in summer. A brand called Vionic are good too - available on a website called Simply Feet. They also do inserts.

I got a ball and rolled under my feet while watching tv. Also picked it up with my toes. Or you can pick up a towel.

Stretch your calves before you get out of bed.

And a really good one I was taught was to sit with your foot on the opposite knife. Pull back the big toe of the raised foot. Feel along the arch of that foot and you should feel a really tight tendon. Massage that out regularly. That really helped me.

butterfly56 · 15/04/2018 22:52

I got this due to walking barefoot around my home for years.
I did the exercises whilst lying in bed or on the sofa. Just do them now without thinking.
Got some cheap lightweight thick soled foam slippers off amazon and they have worked really well.
It has eased off considerably in the past couple of months.
