Why am I so sick every single morning for 18 years

isntitapity · 15/04/2018 09:14

I am 23, ever since I started school aged around 5 I have felt so sick every single morning. When I was 15 I started to be physically sick every morning. Once I've thrown up I feel better.

When I was pregnant I suffered badly from hyperemesis and then I gave birth and the sickness continued just as it was before I was pregnant.

The doctors don't help. Never have done, I see a different doctor every time and they just tell me to eat something or to sit still until it passes.

My dad also suffers from the sickness too, not as bad as me but every day he will be sick before he goes anywhere.

Anyone have this? I'm sat gagging away as I'm writing this. My daughter is 16 Months now and I feel bad for her having to watch or hear me be sick. It's particularly difficult with Work thinking I'm pregnant every time I do a morning shift.

No helpful suggestions, but Flowers you poor thing.

lubeybooby · 15/04/2018 09:16

maybe you need help with gut flora - a faecal transplant. I am sure i heard of this treatment for someone that was sick all the time

you must get seen and get it sorted out OP

ADarkandStormyKnight · 15/04/2018 09:20

That sounds grim. I've had rare occasions when I've been sick like this through stress, usually in the morning.

I wonder if there is a psychological reason for it - maybe started as a one off and now you have come to expect it and feel 'wrong' until you've actually been sick, at which point the anxiety subsides and you can get on with your day?

I was wondering if CBT or hypnotherapy might help?

isntitapity · 15/04/2018 09:31

I've told the doctors numerous times, I've tried sickness tablets, things that melt in your mouth and a few other things.

Some days the sickness is a lot worse than other days.
It will burn my chest and throat.
It's always white sick like lots and lots of flem. Not sick like when you have eaten something bad.

It will wear off by 12 lunchtime Sad

Which Drs have you seen so far? GPs? If you haven’t yet seen a specialist, I would go back to the GP to ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist.

It sounds awful, I hope you can access some help.

butterfly56 · 15/04/2018 09:44

Have you seen an Endocrinologist to check hormones levels? i.e. Cortisol and adrenal function.

WeAreGerbil · 15/04/2018 09:45

A relative of mine has this, although his comes and goes, he has a couple of years when he has it every day and then it goes a bit. Cyclic vomiting syndrome was suggested but it wasn't that. He had various endoscopy type tests and an MRI of his brain to see if there was anything there causing it, all clear. In the end they said possibly either a virus or it was a neurological thing where somehow neural pathways had developed that were still triggering sickness although the original cause was no longer there. They never really gave him a definitive answer and it's gone away for now. If he stayed up all night it didn't happen, but if he slept it did. You need to push for a referral.

Aargh, sorry, flipping app!

PaddyF0dder · 15/04/2018 09:48

You ABSOLUTELY don’t need a faecal transplant! That’s a mental suggestion!

Probably anxiety. Maybe reflux. Maybe both. Get checked out for H. Pylori (the big they caused gastric ulcers) at the GP and maybe go on something like Omeprazole for a while. See if that makes a difference.

But it’s quite likely to be anxiety. Does it happen on non-work or non-stressful mornings?

Fretfulparent · 15/04/2018 10:14

Acid reflux. Try raising the head of your bed overnight?

LovesMaltesers · 15/04/2018 16:04

You need someone different to a GP! Insist on a referral to a gastroenterologist. Can't believe you have put up with this and - assume- never seen a specialist. Insist!

IAmMatty · 16/04/2018 13:41

Are you sure you're not aspirating stomach acid at night? It doesn't sound like actual vomit, from your description.

I used to wake up choking every night; it would burn my chest and throat, but I'd also taste the fumes as I breathed. It would really affect my breathing, and I'd wake up panicking.

I take Lansaprozole now and it happens rarely. Maybe worth thinking about?

DairyisClosed · 16/04/2018 13:43

This happens to me quite often. It's low blood sugar. Do you eat just before bed? Also cos oder a midnight snack.

MollyCule · 16/04/2018 13:45

Sounds like acid reflux to me as well. I have this too, although I usually only feel sick in the morning if I drink something like orange juice. Mine is silent reflux, so I don't have any heartburn, but used to quite often wake up with a sore throat. Mine is definitely exacerbated by stress/ anxiety.

isntitapity · 16/04/2018 15:52

It does tend to be worse if I am stressed or I'm about to go to work.

I do need to go back to the doctors! It's just a nightmare to get in and you never see the same doctor so I end up putting it off a lot. I've just grown to find it normal but it's getting harder to cope in the mornings with a little one running round and me not being able to do much apart from gag! Sad

I have thought that it is acid reflux. The sick isn't sick sick but like white flem, i have no idea what it is!

Thank you for your suggestions! Smile

How's your chest? Do you cough a lot? Have chronic catarrh? My dc used to vomit mucousy phlegmy stuff when they had colds. I think that they were coughing up and swallowing in their sleep, and the catarrh was running down inside and also being swallowed.

They all stopped doing this around the age you started, except for the one with silent reflux, who turned out to be dairy intolerant. Cutting out dairy also cut out their coughing, their snotting and their puking. It also cut down drastically on their refluxing. Took a few weeks to see an improvement, and about a year for all symptoms to go.

MollyCule · 16/04/2018 16:16

You could try taking over the counter raniditine to see if that helps. If it does then more likely it's acid reflux. Good luck!

Olivo · 16/04/2018 17:22

DH had similar and solved it by taking an antihistamine at night. If he forgets, he vomits. His is a phlegmy type of sick.

afishnotabird · 16/04/2018 17:27

I was the same for years, turned out to be lactose intolerance.

bumblingbovine49 · 16/04/2018 17:28

DS (and my sister weirdly) both get sick in the morning if that have a cold. My sister says it is because all the phlegm goes down her throat at night when she is lying down. This doesn't happen all the time to DS but as you said the sick is sort of white/plemmy rather than normal ISWM, it might be a similar thing. ie. a result of your body producing a lot of mucus for some reason and when you lie down at night it goes into your stomach (rather than being in your respiratory tract) which makes you sick in the morning.

Maybe the suggestion earlier about it being related to allergies is worth investigating.

LovesMaltesers · 16/04/2018 17:31

This is really not normal. No point at all trying to diagnose over the web. You need to see your GP and ask for a referral.

penguinsandpanda · 17/04/2018 09:17

I would go for allergy testing though am not an expert on this area but seems worth a try.
