Anyone had a wisdom tooth out with just injections recently?

I'm due one out tomorrow- don't know why I'm feeling nervous! It's broken, driving me mad and I can't wait to get it out.
Had my daughter with no pain relief. I should be feeling like it's no big deal!

Yes, me, and I’m a total wuss. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I asked for cannula in in case I needed sedation but I didn’t.

babycham75 · 10/04/2018 11:02

Did it take long?

Not recently, but I had a top one out with just injections. It was fine.

Don't think I'd want to try it with a bottom or impacted one though!

FreezerBird · 10/04/2018 11:05

I did, back in January. I was nervous but it was fine. Odd sensation and some slightly alarming noises but no pain.

Just be careful afterwards not to dislodge the clot as it heals. Your dentist will probably give you a list of dos and don'ts - follow it rigorously!

FreezerBird · 10/04/2018 11:06

Over very quickly - had a 20 minute appointment.

girlandboy · 10/04/2018 11:09

Yes me. Easier than having a filling!!

One of the injections was a bit painful, but other than that it was a breeze. Lots of pushing, then a big pull and out it popped!

No trouble afterwards either 😊

I had a bottom, impacted wisdom tooth removed a few years ago at the hospital with just injections. It was awful and took 40 mins. I nearly fainted on several occasions. Sorry to bear bad news. 😒

noenergy · 10/04/2018 11:09

Yes 2 top ones at the dentist and they were out really quick without feeling anything.

Bottom one I was sent to a dental surgeon as it was more complicated and he said no sedation and it was really sore. Think it was because it was only partially there. But my dentist wasn't pleased when she found out I hadn't been sedated.

Think it depends on if it's too or bottom and how accessible it is.

PeanuttyButter · 10/04/2018 11:11

It was easy. No pain. Easy recovery (had worse with a normal tooth). Bit of faffing on the dentists part but absolutely no discomfort at all. In fact the way he did the local anaesthetic my lip didn’t even feel numb Grin

Haggisfish · 10/04/2018 11:17

I had a bottom one out. Less than five minutes of actual pulling etc. Told them I was nervous. Asked if they could pause when I raised my hand. They agreed to that apart from one bit of pulling but it was over quickly.

babycham75 · 10/04/2018 11:34

Thanks everyone
It's not at all impacted so I'm hoping it'll over quickly

I had top ones out with injections. It took a few but was not a problem. The dentist said the top ones are easy - like knocking the end domino over.

Mine also used Vaseline Confused and I refused to ask why Hmm so if yours does, then do let me know why Grin please.

swingofthings · 10/04/2018 12:03

Yes 2 was in a complete state but couldn't believe how quick it was in out in 20mns and not much painful at all (only the 2 seconds injections and even then it wasn't bad). I had it done at the hospital. Was so relieved I had not opted for general anaestetics.

Mrsmorton · 10/04/2018 12:06

@melamin what did the dentist do with the vaseline?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/04/2018 12:08

I've had both top ones out with just injections. Was absolutely fine and I didn't need the pain killers they sent me home with either. The worst bit was the tugging feeling.

Melamin · 10/04/2018 12:11

I think he put it on my cheek, near my mouth - it was a while ago.

magicstar1 · 10/04/2018 12:30

I had all four out years ago with just a local. The consultant recommended it as he said with a general, there's more pulling and dragging on your jaw. I had no problems.
I had a back tooth out a few weeks ago too, and again, no bother. All I could feel was pressure as I have very deep roots, but no pain.

FrangipaniBlue · 10/04/2018 13:24

I had to have a perfectly healthy wisdom tooth removed from my top row because the bottom wisdom tooth was only partially erupted and kept getting infected, when it swelled the top one rubbed making it worse. Removing the partially erupted one would've meant surgery so my dentist advised taking the top one out under local anaesthetic purely to relieve the irritation while the bottom one grew through.

It was an absolute breeze, the injections stung a little bit bit I just felt pressure on the top (mainly from the dentist kneeling beside me on the chair putting his body weight on the tooth Confused) then there was a kind of crack and out it came, no pain whatsoever.

I should that add I am an absolute wuss when it comes to teeth after I broke my top front ones when I fell in a drunken stupor, but honestly the wisdom tooth out was nothing!

torthecatlady · 10/04/2018 13:29

I had mine out in September with just injections. The injections were the worst part. The tooth was out in around 30 seconds. Instant relief! Good luck!

SlightlyOuterSpace · 10/04/2018 14:30

Not recently.

Lower jaw.
Impacted. Had to be sawed out of jaw bone.
6 injections, Drove myself home. Was back teaching teens 2 days later. All fine.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/04/2018 20:48

DD had her right side done last month:
12 minutes including injections, stiches and one tooth had to be taken apart.

Last week she had the other side done:
20 minutes, including injections, more stiches this time and again the lower one had to be taken apart.
She had the stiches out 3 h ago.

She was given pain killers for afterewards which she didn't need and says the worst moments were when she actually got the injections.

(I've got all four and they are so hard to keep clean.)

snowboardingqueen · 10/04/2018 20:49

Yes and it really was easy, it just slid out, I was completely amazed.

Talcott2007 · 10/04/2018 21:02

I had both top ones taken out at the same time a while back - it really doesn't hurt (well the injections themselves are a tiny bit stingy but then everything obviously goes numb!) Then the actual removal is super quick probably less that 30secs - one thing they didn't warn me about is the fact that you can hear them coming out - sort of a cruch/pop noise which sounds really loud as its all happening right by your ears!! The noise was really unpleasant and slightly frightening as I wasn't expecting it - not sure if everyone hears it though but just be aware of the possibility of it making a noise - frankly that's the one thing i wish I had know about before having it done!

MBlaze · 10/04/2018 21:06

Had 4 impacted out (in two trips) last year. Took 30 mins tops to get them out. A couple were hard to get out and I bruised quite badly as the dentist really had to tug them. But if they're not impacted, they are pretty easy to get out. Not too painful afterwards - face swollen for around a week but I think I only took a couple ibuprofen on the first day.

Atalune · 10/04/2018 21:09

Upper/top one. 2 injections, bit of pushing and shoving and 20 mins later it was out. Easy.

Be very careful with the aftercare! DO NOT DRINK OUT OF STRAWS. google dry socket.
