Anyone had a wisdom tooth out with just injections recently?

I'm due one out tomorrow- don't know why I'm feeling nervous! It's broken, driving me mad and I can't wait to get it out.
Had my daughter with no pain relief. I should be feeling like it's no big deal!

I had a bottom one out a few years ago - a bit had crumbled off it, they did a filling but then that came away so I went for an emergency appointment.
Dentist looked, took and x-ray and said she'd take it out.
Injection, little wait, then she just jerked it a couple of times and it popped out.

To be fair she said the x-ray looked really good in terms of extraction (not near the nerve I think?) and otherwise she would have left it for my main dentist to deal with!

Hope yours goes well.

I had all 4 out with injections only (at 4 different occasions). was totally fine. always went back to work the next day too.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 11/04/2018 07:50

Is it top or bottom op?

Popsicle30 · 11/04/2018 08:00

Good luck babycham. Let us know how it goes.

I have an appointment to get a lower impacted one out on Friday (the 13th!) and I’m considering cancelling.

I don’t have any issues with it but my dentist thinks that it is better to get it taken out before I have any issues as it could also start to decay the tooth next to it as I get so much food stuck between them with it being impacted.

Has anyone else had theirs out without really needing to?

I had a broken top one out a couple of years ago with just an injection. It was over with quickly, no problems whatsoever. I can barely remember it, I've had worse fillings. Hope your appointment goes as smoothly.

babycham75 · 11/04/2018 08:24

It's top right xx 5.40 tonight

Top ones pop out in a matter of minutes. It will be fine don't worry Smile

Fieldsrus · 11/04/2018 08:53

You will be completely numb the injections are not that bad. The dental assistant will hold your head still and the dentist pushes initially rather than pulls. You feel pressure but no pain. Honestly you will be fine. Eat a small meal before you go - you wont feel like eating afterwards for a while.

@melamin the instruments have rigged handles, almost certainly used it to prevent trauma to your lip/cheek from the rough edge. Hmm

No but I’ve had several mouth operations with local. It was gross, I fainted. I was ok with an extraction though.

Babdoc · 11/04/2018 09:36

I anaesthetised three patients for wisdom teeth extractions under GA in my hospital, then climbed onto the table myself and had my two lower wisdom teeth out under local!
I think the patients in the recovery room thought I was drunk, as I was lisping and drooling while advising them on their post op pain medication!
Upper wisdoms are usually a doddle - a couple of minutes, no pain, just a bit of pushing and sometimes a few odd sound effects. If they looked impacted or difficult (eg v spiral roots) on your X ray, the dentist would have booked you in for a GA.
Make sure you have soft food for tonight, like yougurt or soup, and some mild pain killers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol in your cupboard. You’ll be fine!

Melamin · 11/04/2018 13:15

Thank you @Mrsmorton. I expected it was something like that. TBH He did a good job of it, but I now have a nice sensible female dentist, less given to theatrical dramatics Wink

All done!

Good news! The waiting is the worst bit!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/04/2018 18:06

Just wanted to flag up a pp who mentioned not drinking through straws, however much you may be tempted to!

Melamin · 11/04/2018 18:08

Super!

babycham75 · 11/04/2018 18:24

Worst bit was the second injection. After that, lots of pressure and then it was over

Well done op! Smile

Popsicle I have a lower impacted one that needs taking out. I've had both the top ones out a while ago & they were fine. But been putting the lower one off. Let me know how you go on 13th?

Melamin · 12/04/2018 11:10

I had my lower ones taken out in hospital under GA. It wasn't what I wanted - I asked if it was possible without the GA and they said no - you don't want that. I had heard lots of horrible stories.

Anyway, they did a good job. I had a neat lump, which bruised mildly, each side of my face, about the size of a 10p and a stitch on each gum. The worst thing about it was the assessment, which required 4 hours in the waiting room, and the GA (which is what I expected - they knock me for 6).

I have never regretted it and do regret all the years of avoidance before Wink

Popsicle30 · 12/04/2018 15:29

Glad it went well babysham.

After all that they’ve cancelled it tomorrow for me because the x-ray machine has broke Grin. I’m a little relieved!

Xenia · 12/04/2018 21:53

A long time ago. I remember no pain immediately afte rbut suddenly opened my mouth on Bond St tube station and blood fell out on the station platform. An hour late the pain kicked in but I was glad I had just had a local an.
