Fed up of being in pain- stomach issues since forever....

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 12:37

I’m lying in bed so fed up.

I’ve had ongoing stomach issues since my son was born in 2012.

Was diagnosed with Ibs in 2013.

Anyways fast forward a few years and it got out of control. Has back passage bleeding so had a colonoscopy which came back clear in 2016 Had blood tests and hospital lost results. Sent me a letter in 2017 to say I had hpylori so had the treatment and everything seemed a bit better.

3 months after that the pain has came back with a vengeance. New GP was awful just said it was ibs... I asked for a retest of hpylori which came back clear.

In January this year I had bad bloating and fullness and heartburn. GP gave me lansoprazol. Today I’m sitting here with stabbing pain in my ovaries, big ass bloated tummy and I’m full to the brim even though I’ve eaten just a yogurt Sad

I’m sick of it. I don’t know if it’s an issue with my ovaries or my gut. If I think of it I had a ruptured cyst years ago but GP wasn’t concerned.

I’m sick of pain in my hips and my legs and pain in pelvis but the GP doesn’t seem bothered. What else can I do? Or ask for?

Ask to be referred to a specialist. Living your life in pain in depressing and wears you down. Can you go private?

TalkFastThinkSlow · 30/03/2018 12:57

What have you tried to cut out?

If you're eating dairy, that is actually one of the main food groups that causes issue with IBS.

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 12:58

I looked for private last night. But it’s £3000 for a laprosocopy and it’s a massive chunk of money encase it comes back clear.

So not really an option at the moment Sad

A specialist for what though? I feel like my whole stomach area is a problem. I don’t know which to tackle first.

Could endometriosis be factor?

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 12:59

I cut dairy out and it made little difference. I’ve had a test for coeliac and that came back clear also. Hmm

Perhaps? I’ve read up on it and symptoms are similar but again it’s getting the GP to listen.

I was so sure I had a gut problem that’s what I’ve pursued the past 4 years. I saw one Locum in January and she was great.

I just feel like a hypochondriac but it’s getting to the point where it’s effecting my work and home life Sad

Abdominal migraines?

TalkFastThinkSlow · 30/03/2018 13:06

My partner suffers from mild IBS, and we have generally found that he feels a lot better if he eats fresh, reduces or cuts out milk, alcohol and red meat.

Stress also makes it worst, so perhaps you need to try some de-stressing techniques?

Regular exercise also helps.

i am just suggesting these as your original OP does not indicate if you have done anything which is non-medical.

If you feel your GP isn't approachable, I think you would be right to consider getting a second opinion, or going private, if you can.

Weezol · 30/03/2018 13:06

You need a referral to a gastro consultant. Can you see a different GP at the practice?

notapizzaeater · 30/03/2018 13:07

Located after eating as feeling full all the time isn't normal, can you see another go at your doctors? Have they scanned your abdomen ?

Could you have a consultation privately and get them to write to your go referring you for tests ?

userxx · 30/03/2018 13:07

A gastroenterologist is a stomach specialist. Ask to be referred. I'm in pain at the moment, it's massively getting me down. You have my sympathy.

Perfectly1mperfect · 30/03/2018 13:07

Have you had any tests other than bloods ? I would go to another GP as they should refer you to gastro or gynocology.

Failing that could you afford to take out private medical insurance. Ours covers existing medical conditions. Not sure how much it would be monthly as ours is through work but might be worth doing.

Don't just put up with it, living with pain is draining and can cause many ther problems. Can you take someone with you to GP appointment ?

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 13:22

Just to give an overview-

Currently on WW so eat moderately healthy-ish. Don’t consume alcohol at all, don’t smoke, excersise with a PT twice a week,
Have done CBT so know how to de-stress ect.
I don’t many gassy foods as I’m quite a fussy Easter. Mainly stick to chicken, rice, pasta, veg.

I saw a Gastro consultant in 2016/2017. He found the h pylori but was convinced everything else was ibs related also because the colonoscopy came back clear.

Can ask for a re-referral. I am going to the gp Tuesday or failing that th walk in centre.

I’ve had tests for gluten intolerance and thyroid And then a faecal calprotectin test that distinguishes between ibs and ibd and it came back ok??

Somethings got to be done I’m only 27 so feel because I’m “young” I’m overlooked.

OP I don't want to scare you but some of your symptoms are common symptoms of bowel / ovarian cancer. Please keep going back and insist on a referral until you get one. We know several young women in their 30s who have or had bowel cancer - all but one weren't tested for it for ages b/c people think of bowel cancer as an older people's illness. Hope that's not the case for you but it really does need checking.

halesie · 30/03/2018 13:27

Sorry cross post, just saw your update. Please keep an eye on your weight too - one friend who was ill lost weight v quickly and that was the symptom her GP took the most seriously.

Perfectly1mperfect · 30/03/2018 13:33

Yes, you can be referred again if symptoms have changed or got worse.

I know 2 people who were originally diagnosed with ibs but were later diagnosed with other bowel diseases. Please go back to your GP. They need to rule out everything else and then if it is proven to be ibs you need help managing the pain and symptoms.

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 13:48

It’s frustrating at the Locum I saw in January said if no better she would
Look at referring for a camera down to see if there was anything.
But the other GP was super dismissive and rude. I will go back Tuesday and sit there and refuse to move until something is done.

I don’t excessively eat junk or dairy or stuff like beans/spinach ect.

I’m literally fed up of it all. I’m sick of having the most crippling ovulation pains, fat pregnant looking stomach which bloats constantly during the day and I’m sick of having shooting pains in my hips and legs. I hate being a woman!! Envy

Try reading up on FODMAP. It could be onions garlic or even apples giving you problems.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 30/03/2018 13:57

a dietitian to look into FODMAP intolerances? DD got a referral to a great one to sort out the conflicting eating stuff she'd had from different specialists (for different conditions), and instead of that, the dietitian got her to try the low FODMAP diet, and we've discovered so far she's gluten intolerant (quite definitively and explosively Wink), but we'd had no idea, other than a vague "you could try gluten free, or low carb or low GI, see if it makes a difference" from her main specialist.

Minime85 · 30/03/2018 14:06

Had ibs over 20yrs. Some days it’s soul destroying. Have you tried acupuncture? Changed my life.
I’m also trying out fodmap diet at the moment and can see def differences in high and low foods

Perfectly1mperfect · 30/03/2018 14:07

Ovulation pain, big stomach and shooting pains in hips could definitly be endometriosis or adenomyosis.

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 16:25

I keep getting intermittent stabbing pains in my pelvic area and when I pushed on my one side it was so painful I almost screamed. Just typical the GP is closed today.

OP posts:
notapizzaeater · 30/03/2018 16:30

Which side ?

Rubyritz · 30/03/2018 16:40

My right side.... but someone’s left side if they were facing me. If you get me.

The pains quite low down so I don’t think it’s anything like appendix Confused
