My husband suffers with bad psoriasis, he also has been a lifelong eczema sufferer.

Lately his face has flared up so badly and as he deals with clients and heads presentations at work he is understandably self conscious.

So what I'm asking is if anyone has had success with anything maybe we haven't tried, all over the counter creams and various creams and gels that have been prescribed by a very unsympathetic consultant have had no success. The consultant has said that not enough of his body is covered to be eligible for light treatment...and he has now been left with try to manage it yourself at home Confused

Saw this the other day and I've ordered some. Always worth a go.

I have psoriasis and my Dr has always been happy to prescribe topical steroid creams or specific psoriasis creams - I only get it in fairly small patches on my elbows and feet (although it drives me absolutely nuts with itching).
I can't understand why your DH would be told it's not bad enough for treatment?! He needs to see someone else!!

ShellsBells76 · 20/03/2018 15:06

Thanks!

Have already tried this though with no success:(

Sleepy - They've tried lots of steroid creams and they just don't work, one worked briefly then it just came back worse!
He is asking for a referral to a different consultant just seeing if I can find something in the meantime.

The one cream that worked for my DD when she was little and for my Mum more recently was Annique rooibos rescue cream.
I tried every cream going for DDs eczema and didn’t want to use steroids too much and MIL bought some of this, I didn’t think it would work but gave it a go and it was brilliant. A couple of other people I told about it say it works too
It’s not expensive so worth a try, only available mail order but google it

TalkinPeece · 20/03/2018 15:17

Dovonex is the only thing that ever worked on mine.

At the moment its flaring up lots because the weather has been so grim

Once the sun comes out a couple of outdoor swims and it will be back under control as vitamin D is definitely the best thing for psoriasis

in terms of stressing about it - can he make a joke that his skin is proof that the weather has been foul as psoriasis hides from sunshine :-)

I have cured psoriasis with lots of olive oil, that works 100%

TalkinPeece · 20/03/2018 15:19

???? Cured an autoimmune disease with olive oil ?
Are you sure it was psoriasis (as in GP diagnosis)

Maddie1982 · 20/03/2018 15:24

Yeah, olive oil but not the one that you buy in shops, i used the one i bought in local greek shop. Seller told me it is one of the best quality. I had diagnosis for more than 4 years and tried different creams even corticosteroids but nothing helped. how long do you have psoriasis?

TalkinPeece · 20/03/2018 15:29

40 years

Maddie1982 · 20/03/2018 15:35

Have you tried to change something in your food intake? add more omega fatty acids?

TalkinPeece · 20/03/2018 15:38

Maddie
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder of the dermis, resulting in excess buildup of epidermis.
Dovonex and vitamin D work.
Fiddling about with olive oil is much too woo for me.

Thebluedog · 20/03/2018 15:38

Dr for steroid creams, worked wonders for me.

flumpybear · 20/03/2018 15:40

I've found coconut oil helps for my scalp psoriasis

Maddie1982 · 20/03/2018 15:40

You are treating it 40 years and it is still here, the reason is somewhere else, you have to think about treating it from inside out...

Maddie1982 · 20/03/2018 15:44

If you dont believe see this video

TalkinPeece · 20/03/2018 15:47

Maddie, I do not know what you are trying to sell but there is enough snake oil out there already without your magic olive oil

anonymousbird · 20/03/2018 16:01

I have spent 40 years looking for help with psoriasis and really struggling at present with it. It does tend to improve in the summer, with some gentle sun exposure. I've even give up wine in the hope that would make a difference, but to little avail!

The only time it pretty much completely cleared up was when I was pregnant. Sadly that's not happening any time again!

Light treatment is something that worked for me years ago, but you can only have so much before they won't let you do it again. That's my situation. I am due to see the consultant soon as I do every six months and I just feel like I am going nowhere with it.

Thatoneoverthere · 20/03/2018 16:03

I have it on my face too and I've found
Nivea sensitive-3in1-micellar-cleansing-water helps to keep the build up down and take away some the underlying redness. I only use it once a day and people notice the difference (as in people in shops ask whats wrong if I don't use it)
I've started to get facials as well which have brought down the redness, my psoriasis is a bit odd though in that it reacts with the sun rather than better.

PinkBuffalo · 20/03/2018 16:09

I've had a very bad flare up in my hands this year (been under a lot of stress), and it's been so painful Sad
The only thing that has helped me is I forked out for some Aveeno cream. It hasn't cleared it up, but it is bearable now and hardly any pain.
Like PP, I also didn't have much luck with steroid creams, and I don't get itching with its, it's just so painful when it's bad.

ShellsBells76 · 20/03/2018 18:14

Thanks so much for all the replies, will have a look at some of the things he hasn't tried yet Smile

I use an ointment sold over the counter in the USA called MG217. Look at the website. I get people to bring it over for me. You can also get on eBay. They make an intensive ointment which really works. Also a scalp treatment. It is tar based.

anonymousbird · 23/03/2018 08:16

What shampoo do people use?

timeistight · 23/03/2018 11:28

I had psoriasis for over twenty years, starting after a respiratory infection. Nothing from the GP had any effect whatsoever, so I spent all those years looking for a miracle cure and finding nothing.

Randomly, I turned out to have a very low vitamin D level. Fixing that made a huge improvement. Then fixing my underactive thyroid finished the job. I have had no active psoriasis at all now for five years.

I can scarcely believe it myself, but it;s the truth and my thyroid condition appears to be pituitary rather than auto immune, so I don't understand it. I can only tell you what happened.
