Unless he is being excessively sick, or has been sick for more than the last week or so I wouldn't worry at this stage. A temperature can accompany an upset tummy. There seems to be a bought of upset tummy going round our way at the mo.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 07/05/2007 22:58

Has he kept anything down? had water?

maybe a & e would be a good idea

kittylette · 07/05/2007 22:59

hes brought up everything, had calpol,

hes got a funny rash but its only on his face around his eyes nowhere else on his body at all

is it connected??

Take him to GP tomorrow if you are still worried - but I have never taken any of mine to GP until day 3-4, when things seemt o be going on a bit long.

Just try and get clear fluids into him, as and when you can. Limit his food intake as much as you can with a 2yo. Toast seems to stay down well in my 3 and keeps hunger levels at bay. Little and often.

chocolatebirdy · 07/05/2007 23:00

Call nhs direct, see what they think.

kittylette · 07/05/2007 23:01

i dont think he needs to go but DP is insisting on taking him

OP posts:
SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 23:03

Based on what you have said here the most I would do tonight is ring NHS direct and follow there advice.

TheKnightsWhoSayNi · 07/05/2007 23:03

It won't HURT to take him, will it. Better safe than sorry. A quick Google suggests a possible allergic reaction?

SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 23:03

(And obviously A&E if that is what they advise).

Why does he think he needs to go to A&E?

dinny · 07/05/2007 23:03

what sort of rash?

kittylette · 07/05/2007 23:04

it looks like little broken blood vessenot on the skin - under it,

DP just panicks, DS has never been ill before

OP posts:
dinny · 07/05/2007 23:05

don't want to alarm you but that is a dogy =sounding rash. I'd go to A&E.

dinny · 07/05/2007 23:06

was onphone to NHS Direct today as ds poorly and they asked "does the rash look like blood under the skin?"

foxybrown · 07/05/2007 23:06

I would call NHS Direct and see what they say.

Have you tried nurofen to bring temp down, I find it more effective? You can alternate it with Calpol.

Water, rehydration mix, lucozade sport was recommended by my doctor when we had a similar thing with DD (also 2) very recently.

Good luck, hope he's better soon.

SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 23:06

Does it disappear when you press it?

any none-raise rash that looks like blood/or is purple is cause for concern, esp when with a temp and tummy trouble - please err on side of caution and go to a&E.

no, it sounds viral/bacterial - hope you are taking him to hosp, Kittylette?

TheKnightsWhoSayNi · 07/05/2007 23:11

Good point KerryMum, I only googled vomiting and rash around the eyes, forgot to include fever.

yes, rash is why I'd take him in.

hope ds is recovered, Essbee.

SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 23:19

Ditto esbee.

And as a note on the positive side re the rash. It doesn't have to be anything sinister. DD3 had the meningitis rash on her wrists and arms a few weeks ago. It was nothing, disappeared over a fwe days. No identified cause. But if it is like the meningitis rash eluded to on this thread (especially accompanied by an unwell child) it does need checking professionally sooner rather than later.
