That is a good time popsycal! It says on my training plan that if your 1 mile time is 15/16 minutes you are doing well!

I have my one mile on Sunday at the end of my second week. I will be running 1 min/walking 1 min or running 2min/walking 2 min. I feel like I could do more, but I am following the regime strictly!

It is amazing what a difference I feel already when I am running, much easier than it was less than 2 weks ago when I started

popsycal · 11/05/2007 08:02

same here wallace
i am following my regime too....but when i ran yesterday i ran a route prt of which i have measured a mile so thought i would keep an eye on the clock

i started a few weeks ago as a total novice, finding walk 2 mins run 1 min for 18 mins hard going

now done 2 lots of 2mins walk and 3 mins run for 25 mins and felt i could go on...but didn;t!!

Me too, just starting. Did the first 2 min run/1 min walk and nearly died. Going to do again tonight.

Are you all using stopwatches? I use the tracks on my ipod to keep time, but quite hard to do !!!!

popsycal · 11/05/2007 09:27

just measured the route i took last night on way back from school run
just over 2.5 miles in just under 25 mins
i am really pleased actually!

my knee joints ache a little bit today
nothing major but they are achey.....

My running partner's dh is going to measure a mile in the park for us on his work software. We are going running together on Tuesday and Saturdays and I need to try and do a couple of runs by myself in the week - how often are other people doing it?

popsycal · 11/05/2007 12:36

look at the firt link posted further down by saggermaker - excellent site for calcualting the distance

OP posts:
popsycal · 11/05/2007 14:24

that map my run site is great - map all your runs and save them and look for others in your area

OP posts:
RosaLuxembourg · 11/05/2007 16:21

Have measured my mile on that site - excellent! All set for a measured mile at 9am tomorrow. Will post my time even if it is embarrassingly slow.

popsycal · 11/05/2007 18:19

i have, in the last hour or so, become obsessed with measuring various runs near to where I live lol

OP posts:
popsycal · 13/05/2007 06:47

how was it rosa?

OP posts:
Wallace · 13/05/2007 08:24

Maybe she is still running

I have got mine today. I will either use a track in the woods that says it is a mile (I'm not sure how accurate) or measure mile along a road out of the village. I'll let you know how I get on!

popsycal · 13/05/2007 08:26

my knees are shot to pieces. Came on after last run. Right inside both knee joints. Had to takenurofen in the night. Not sure what did it as I didnt change anything

OP posts:
Wallace · 13/05/2007 08:34

Oh no poor you. Hope it passes quickly.

Wallace · 13/05/2007 11:32

My measured mile time was 6 mins 24 secs, but...

I really doubt that the mile-long track in hte woods is a mile. There is no way I could do a mile in htat time seeing as I was doing 1min run/1 min walk

popsycal · 13/05/2007 12:23

That is pretty speedy Wallace! Go on www.mapmyrun.com and measure it.

I have since found that the first 'mile' I did was more than a mile. My 9.42 mins was a true mile though!

OP posts:
Wallace · 13/05/2007 12:40

the paths I run on aren't marked on that site

I am planning to measure a mile along a road and do it tomorrow so I will let you knowmy real mile time!

Blondilocks · 13/05/2007 12:43

I did it last year, had ran before but not in the 6 months or so before doing the race.

When I first started running I did the run a bit walk a bit programme, then just kept increasing the running parts. I found it quite good & it is surprising how after a while it starts getting easier & easier!

Good luck to everyone doing it & remember to stick at it. The first time I went out running for a minute seemed almost impossible but it does get easier!

AnnaPhylactic · 13/05/2007 14:43

Just did it this morning, in 29mins. Have to admit I walked for a minute half way round. Was very wet.

popsycal · 13/05/2007 18:43

just done 2 miles in 19.02
knees huryt

OP posts:
Wallace · 13/05/2007 20:59

Well done Annaphylactic! For a moment I thought that was your measured mile time

Wallace · 13/05/2007 21:05

wow pops, no wonder your kness hurt!

popsycal · 13/05/2007 21:12

I am about to order a couple of knee supports online - boots were 20 quid each and i am a cheapskate!

I don't feel like I am pushing it when running...2 mins walk and 3 mins run and I am bearing in mind the 'talk and run' recommendation and the 6/10 exertion thingy.

Bu obviously something is agravating them. My guess is that many old injuries from as far back as 20 years ago are coming back to haunt me. That's dancing for you grrr

OP posts:
popsycal · 13/05/2007 21:13

anna - that is a fantastic time!

I am getting quite obsessed wirth it now

Too early to start setting myself targets really and I am wondering when i will be able to run for longer periods rather than walk andd run. But I am sticking rigidly to the training plan...taking it easy

OP posts:
moondog · 13/05/2007 21:26

raised £127

popsycal · 14/05/2007 06:05
