I'm in shock. Massive tumour, surgery tomorrow, shadow on her lung as well. Prognosis pretty crap I'd say
Late thirties, one 3 year old daughter, one dh who completely adores her.
She was fine when I saw her last week, but complaining of headaches
I'm in shock
I feel sick

Oh no! That's awful, unthinkable. Don't know what to say.

popsycal · 01/05/2007 13:38

oh god - how dreadful
my lovely godmother , aged mid 40s, was diagnosed 2 years ago now with a shadow on her lung. healthy, non- smoker, clean living, 5 kids under ten

she was given 6 months
and although she is very ill is still here

thinking of your friend

Spidermama · 01/05/2007 13:38

God sorry PPH.

I have a friend who had a massive brain tumour removed about 10 years ago. She has to take drugs every day for the rest of her life but she's fine and happy.

I have another who's just had a bit of her lung removed and is also now looking in much better health.

The two together though! That's bad luck but certainly not hopeless.

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 13:38

neither do I
I feel useless
she wants us to text her jokes

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 13:39

god it is all awful isn't it

I think I'll be better at responding when she is out and home and further treatment etc - then I can be practical etc etc

but now it is just waiting to see what the surgery uncovers, I can't DO anything which is awful. they won't even allow flowers

I'm in shock

PrincessPeaHead · 01/05/2007 13:40

Pray for them all please

God, that is so terrible. Life is bloody unfair

onlyjoking9329 · 01/05/2007 13:41

my lovely DH was DX with a brain tumour and MS on 25th Jan (his bithday)
It is a shock but she is getting treatment quickly which is good, keep us posted.

Aloha · 01/05/2007 13:44

You must feel absolutely sick PPH. Please text her jokes, and maybe see if her dh wants an ocado delivery? Does he want someone to look after the three year old while she is having surgery?
The Vogue writer Deborah Hutton wrote a book called What Can I do To Help? about this very topic, after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.

LilyLoo · 01/05/2007 13:44

would say that the brain tumour will be metastisise off the lung, how awful cannot imagine how she is feeling at the moment x

Purpleparrot · 01/05/2007 13:47

oh, how awful, I'm so sorry. My best friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour a couple of years ago. She was getting really bad migraines - which she still gets - and she had to keep going to the hospital for them to freeze one side of her brain due to the pain she was in. She went for various scans etc and they discovered that she had a brain tumour wrapped around an important blood vessel/artery something or other in the centre of her brain.

It was very scary for a time because they thought that if they tried to operate and nicked it she could either die or lose her sight, taste, hearing, speech, the sensation of touch and be paralysed - all of them not just some or one of them!

She was only 23 with a toddler and I thought it was so cruel that her and her DH had to go through that. After careful monitoring the specialists decided that she had actually been born with the brain tumour and it was unlikely that it had ever contributed to her migraines and in fact it was sheer luck that they found it at all.

They never found out what causes these ongoing migraines but at least she doesn't have to worry about the tumour.

I hope your friend comes through it successfully. Take care xx

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 11:26

thank you everyone
she is under the knife now
and then will be kept under heavy sedation and her body temp lowered for a good few days
it is bloody terrifying and horrible

she is a strong christian, so please pray for her

OP posts:
electra · 02/05/2007 11:27

I will pph xx

PrincessPeaHead · 02/05/2007 11:28

apparently either the lung is the primary and the brain the secondary

or the lung and the brain are secondaries and there is a primary somewhere else theyhaven't found yet like ovary

she had multiple rounds of IVF in her past

I'm worried it is ovarian and massively advanced

but the xray could be nothing and the brain the only thing and that just a benign tumour so fingers are all crossed for that outcome, albeit that it looks unlikely
