Deep Bartholin abcess misery

Hi,
I’m having trouble finding information and just wondered if anyone else had experienced a very deep (I’d say ‘internal’) Bartholin’s cyst abcess?
I started to feel unwell on Christmas Day and after a few days of feeling increasingly poorly (nausea, cramps, downwards pressure) and then finding a large painful lump I ended up at out of hours yesterday. The doc said she thought it was a Bartholin’s abcess as it’s around the right location, however it’s very deep. I was prescribed two different anti-bs and she said to give it 48 hours & go back to doc if worse.
Only thing is I’ve woken up today with it bigger and more painful than ever with nausea even worse (assuming from anti-bs).
Has anyone had one of these ‘deep’ abcesses before? Was it definitely a Bartholin’s or a different one? Did it go away with just anti-bs or am I likely to need it to be drained? I’m supposed to be driving on hol with the kids on Tuesday but the docs won’t be open on Monday and I’m trying to work out whether to cancel holiday or not. The way I’m feeling now I can’t even get off the sofa. So worried it might burst too with it being internal :( Can’t remember ever feeling this poorly & miserable!
Any insight would be gratefully received!

Thanks everyone, spent last 5 hours in A&E, back for surgery in the morning!

Can’t persuade you to ask a nurse to video it? Grin

NickyS17 · 31/12/2017 17:14

Hospital just declared a major incident as no beds - who knows if or when I’ll get seen!

Thanks hope you get your surgery ASAP

Makingahome · 31/12/2017 17:17

Fingers crossed it'll be sorted tomorrow.

Look up sepsis symptoms with whoever is with you so they can watch out for you too.

Yogagirl123 · 31/12/2017 17:17

Oh bless you, I hope it’s sorted very soon.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 31/12/2017 17:20

So glad you went and are going to have the marsupialisation. I had a recurring Bartholin and it took 6 bouts of antibiotics, two trips to A&E, 7 GP appointments, and 6 months to convince them to operate on me. I felt better immediately I came round.

cakeymccakington · 31/12/2017 17:22

Hope it goes ok tomorrow

NickyS17 · 31/12/2017 17:25

Turns out it wasn’t a Bartholin abcess just a completely random deep abcess - everyone was a bit baffled as it didn’t tick any box!

So glad you got seen, I hope you get sorted soon.

AnnaMagnani · 31/12/2017 17:44

Glad you are seen and going to get sorted. Good luck for tomorrow!

I had one when pg with DD2. I had it drained at 36 weeks. It was hoped it would burst during labour but it did not. It refilled and I had an op under a GA to remove it 6 months post partum.

NickyS17 · 31/12/2017 18:58

Yeah I have GA tomorrow, really hope it doesn’t come back!

So far, so good!

I felt totally back to normal after 48 hours post op, OP. 😄

NoStraightEdges · 01/01/2018 18:40

How is today op? Did you get it drained?

NickyS17 · 01/01/2018 20:20

Unfortunately not :( Feeling quite angry tbh - turned up first thing this morning as no beds last night, to see a different surgeon who said he couldn’t find the lump (despite me telling him he was looking in the wrong place). Older guy who talked at my husband rather than me... Another member of his team then stepped in when he saw me getting distressed & found it immediately. But the older guy didn’t bother to check again & said it was deep, would be a lot of blood loss & to take anti-bs until Thursday & go back to get checked again because surgery would be complicated. In a lot of pain, now reacting very badly to all the anti-bs (can’t keep anything down) & miserable. Going to docs first thing to beg someone to bump me up for an ultrasound as can’t take another 5 hours in A&E (no ultrasound staff available over bank hol weekend). Not a good start to new year!

Oh God poor you. It's so frustrating that they're being inconsistent.

NickyS17 · 01/01/2018 20:28

And my kids now going off on holiday with my parents for the rest of the week as I can’t go. Much better for them but I’ve never been away from my son for more than a night before & I’ve never been away from my daughter. Going to miss them so much ..

IrisAtwood · 01/01/2018 20:33

I am sorry things are so bad. Take the opportunity while the children are away to look after yourself. Really hope that you get sorted out soon.

NickyS17 · 01/01/2018 21:09

Thanks for the sympathy! Really makes me feel for people with chronic conditions..

cakeymccakington · 01/01/2018 21:12

Oh that's crap. I'm so sorry you've had to go through that and got no further.

I hope your surgery can help tomorrow

FaithEverPresent · 01/01/2018 23:19

I’ve had a dreadful time with health problems recently so I really do sympathise. I am generally assertive (and I’m a nurse!!) but I’ve felt railroaded many times while I’ve been ill. You will need to be firm! If you can’t keep anything down, how on earth will oral antibiotics have chance to work?! Wait until the morning, get to your GP and I would hope they would admit you directly (so you can avoid A&E).

Flowers for you, sorry about the holiday, feeling awful and generally being treated poorly.

cakeymccakington · 02/01/2018 15:27

@NickyS17 how're you doing today? I'm hoping you've been seen by now and got things sorted

ScarlettDarling · 02/01/2018 15:31

You poor thing, just read your thread, what an awful time you're having. Hoping you get sorted soon.
