So sorry for posting so late but desperate for advice .
Had a wicked cough for a long time, then thought I had some sort of virus, end d up in the hospital yesterday, they thought I had a blood clot in my lung. After test after test it turns out I have Phuemonia , saw several doctors lots of blood tests scans etc, the first doctor said that I would have to in for a couple of days, completely broke down and refused to stay. She said I had to. Anyway 7 hours later
Had a drip with IV antibiotics in the hospital and pain killers and extra antibiotics and felt better. Two out of the four blood tests came back abnormal but I just could not stay.
Finishing I am now at home tonight and tried to carry on as normal but am a little scared now as my mum went into hospital at my age (53) and she ever came out. Not the same illness
So I am hoping someone can tell me that once the antibiotics kick in I will be fine !!! Xx

Go back to hospital and let them take care of you.

You will not be fine on just antibiotics you have pneumonia, your lungs are full of crap and therefore you are not getting enough oxygen every time you breathe to your organs so you will become very ill indeed. Your oxygen levels will keep decreasing and your carbon dioxide levels will increase.

Also you can become confused and delirious and make bad decisions (such as leaving hospital) when you have pneumonia which is a serious condition.

Tantpoke · 24/12/2017 02:51

OP if you are feeling anxious you must tell the doctors so they can prescribe you a sedative to allow them to help you get better.
Call an ambulance and get them to take you back to hospital right now

Wyrdesista · 24/12/2017 02:59

It’s a very serious condition,go back to hospital and have the full proper treatment. You really can’t be too careful,I didn’t want to go in to be treated for pneumonia but it saved my life. The antibiotics do help but made me feel extremely poorly for the first three days,I was on levofloxacin and another one (sorry can’t remember the name). It really is a very serious condition and there is a high risk of sepsis which is a life threatening condition.

Go back to hospital where you can be monitored and treated.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 24/12/2017 03:59

I’ve had pneumonia. Did you discharge yourself? If so, you need to get back in there as soon as you can. As said above, you need nursing and oxygen. You will come out but you need to be sensible.

brizzledrizzle · 24/12/2017 04:41

You really do need to be in hospital, better there than at home when you could suddenly get dangerously ill.

Littleoldme52 · 24/12/2017 10:15

Thank you all very much, yes you are all right I am not going to get better here at home. I am going to take your advice.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone

wikedminx · 24/12/2017 22:33

OP, I hope that you are getting looked after at hospital, It is the best place to be.
I got home from hospital on Wedsnesday having spent 11 days as inpatient with Bilateral Pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung. I was on IV antibiotics and 60% oxygen.
I hadnt thought that I was that ill until it was explained to me by the medical team!! I am still as weak as a kitten, and barely able to move from room to room.
All the best xx

Littleoldme52 · 25/12/2017 01:31

Thank you for your messages, went back to hospital , another intravenous fusion of anti biotic. They have said that I can come home for Christmas Day. (Gave me antibiotics). Have to update them if I get worse.
Breathing although really painful I can breathe 😄
Just so blinking tired. Family have been great was sent straight to bed and they have taken over.
Am due back in work on Wednesday, hope I will be better by then . Xxx

Please listen to their advice.

You are very unlikely to be better by Wednesday and if you go in unrecoverable you will compromise your recovery this time and potentially for the future.

Learn from me. I was told to take three weeks off. I took three days. My lungs have never been the same since: until I had the flu jab a month ago, whenever I got a bad cold I got pneumonia or pleurisy. Last time they thought I must be asthmatic as well and it took three diff sorts of antibiotics before I started getting better.

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/12/2017 01:41

*unrecovered, not unrecoverable

Littleoldme52 · 25/12/2017 01:43

Orlanda: I really thought that after antibiotics I should be ok. God I on,y started this new job five weeks ago.
Will the flu jab help ?
Sorry to hear you were so unwell I certainly know how you feel

OP posts:
EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 25/12/2017 09:31

I doubt very much that anyone would give you the flu jab now tbh. Do everything they say, eat as much fresh stuff as you can and drink plenty of water. It’s unlikely you are going to be back in work this week.

Orlanda my lungs are fucked now too. Pants isn’t it.

StupidSlimyGit · 25/12/2017 09:51

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago, ended up in hospital on antibiotics for a week. I'm glad to hear you went back and they've said you're well enough to spend Christmas day at home. Flowers
You won't be able to get the flu jab while you're ill, but it may be worth it once you are better. Also if as others have said pneumonia leaves you with wrecked lungs it is worth a trip to your doctors. I developed asthma following mine and my inhalers when I finally went to the doctors have given me my life back. They said it is common to develop asthma following pneumonia?
Take time and heal, your job will have to understand. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Fairylea · 25/12/2017 13:23

Oh goodness op you won’t be back to work on Wednesday! ShockConfused You’ll be unwell for a good while yet, sorry! Pneumonia is very serious, they wouldn’t want to keep you in hospital if they didn’t need to. Make sure you take care of yourself and go back if you need to.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 25/12/2017 20:07

How are you doing now OP? Have the hospital discharged you or are you going back in? Thanks

Littleoldme52 · 29/12/2017 23:13

Hi all, sorry not replied. First anti biotics did not work. Now on a second lot... Like I said am due back to work by Tuesday but sitting here tonight I think it is unlikely ... Doctor has been fantastic.

Anyway all thank you so much am of back to sleep , wish you all a happy (illness free) new year.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 30/12/2017 08:44

I think it took them a few tries before they found one that helped me if I remember correctly. The only one that ever works for me is Clarithromycin.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

HappyHedgehog247 · 30/12/2017 08:48

Humira increases risks for respiratory infections. Once you have one you may be more susceptible so you may also wish to discuss with your rheumatologist once better. Please take the time to be properly well. Autoimmune plus pneumonia is a lot for your body x

badbadhusky · 30/12/2017 08:53

I was signed off for 3 weeks the first time I had pneumonia, then for 2 weeks the last time. Don’t rush back to work - you need time to get over this. Return too quickly and it will be a long uphill slog to full health. If you are new to your job, surely it is better to return bright-eyed and bushy-tailed after a serious diagnosis and sensible time off than to struggle back in too soon and underperform for weeks until you are back to full health?

AVeryBigHouse · 30/12/2017 09:54

I had pneumonia in October and still feeling the effects now. I limped through November and December and now I’m catching everything going. The antibiotics gave me thrush and oral thrush, I’ve had two viral infections and now conjunctivitis. I had 3 weeks of work.

It will take a while to return to full fitness so take it as easy as you can.

Littleoldme52 · 05/01/2018 01:50
