So sorry for posting so late but desperate for advice .
Had a wicked cough for a long time, then thought I had some sort of virus, end d up in the hospital yesterday, they thought I had a blood clot in my lung. After test after test it turns out I have Phuemonia , saw several doctors lots of blood tests scans etc, the first doctor said that I would have to in for a couple of days, completely broke down and refused to stay. She said I had to. Anyway 7 hours later
Had a drip with IV antibiotics in the hospital and pain killers and extra antibiotics and felt better. Two out of the four blood tests came back abnormal but I just could not stay.
Finishing I am now at home tonight and tried to carry on as normal but am a little scared now as my mum went into hospital at my age (53) and she ever came out. Not the same illness
So I am hoping someone can tell me that once the antibiotics kick in I will be fine !!! Xx

Your story is identical to mine. Bad cough, spent a weekend in bed, finally went to hospital when I started coughing up blood on the Sunday. Had to have a CT scan to rule out a clot.
I spent 5 nights in hospital with pneumonia. This was the first week of December.
Go back to hospital, let them treat you properly.
I'm feeling much better now but still feel knackered. Went into work for the day yesterday and felt completely wiped out by home time!
Recovery takes ages, I was told up to 3 months.

Has any of the Doctors suggested that you get the pneumonia vaccination in future? Worth doing. And the annual flu vaccine of course. I’ve had pneumonia twice as a result of a simple cold wildly exacerbated by my asthma, and I live in dread of getting it again. I get the flu jab but despite history am not eligible for pneumonia vaccine, you might be though due to humira. Hope you’re well on the way to health!

I had pneumonia in Sept, after a mild cold. Had a few days of feeling awful with flu like symptoms, saw GP who said chest infection and prescribed antibiotics, two more days at home with raging temp (104), vomiting, increasingly delerious, nails and lips had developed a blue-grey hue.
Back to GP who prescribed more antibiotics and suggested a chest xray. Had one the next day and was immediately admitted for intravenous antibotics and paracetamol, was in for 5 days. Blood infection markers were over 200 which is dangerously high.

Had five weeks off work and thankfully have made a full recovery but it was very scary indeed.

No existing chest issues, very good health generally, early 40s, never smoked. I've had the flu jab and enquired about the pneumonia vacc but nurses and GP don't believe it would be particularly effective in my case.

Glad you're feeling better OP, the docs i saw said there's an increase in cases this year, especially in younger people.

I have a flu vaccination every year as I have asthma. I've also had the pneumonia vaccination in the past.
Just unlucky this year.

Hi all,
Posted a while ago about having phuemonia, had two lots of antibiotics and have been back to work
Problem is I am still getting pain in the right side of my back and breathlessness.
Did have a X-ray yesterday so am hoping they will just say that I have pulled muscles or something , but am worried I have something more sinister going on..
How long does phuemonia really take to get over ?
Many thanks all xxx

I can honestly say it took me 3 months to feel 100% again. I had to have 2 further repeat chest rays until it was finally clear.

Canyouguess · 03/02/2018 22:03

3 months or so
Then one amazing day I realised that actually I felt ok. More than ok. I felt healthy!!

It’s a tough journey but you’ll get there
