All welcome - for anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat, so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss, but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I think plan is long slightly shiny skirt. I am not 100% sure it will go on bike, so will have a go at hoiking it up this morning, I guess.

(Otherwise am stuck with flarey high waisted skirt which I quite like, but a) it's cotton and b) it needs ironing. More motorbike friendly, though.)

More likely, I'll wear a tracksuit or something on the bottom on the bike, and change at the other end.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/04/2007 08:32

Oh, and I do understand re: shoe choices, I go to a similar place. Thankfully, I have size 9 feet, so I just say 'give me boy shoes, more choice' and they do that. Not a lot of peptobismol pink boy shoes.

I am slightly overwhelmed by admin nonsense this morning, but will struggle through. I don't know how I can be expected to deal with today and all the insanity (staying up until god-knows o'clock with this black tie do ... gah) but I'm sure it'll be fine really.

anorak · 24/04/2007 08:34

Have just breakfasted on a banana and two plums phnar phnar

FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 08:35

arf at anorak

Good luck today NQC. We are all big eyes and open mouths waiting for the gossip about the party tonight

Frances, I want you to notice, none of the tone-lowering on this thread is my fault! You always blame me, and I bet you will for this one, too, but I am not the problem here!

Right, must dress, shove children into clothes, and leave the house.

NotQuiteCockney · 24/04/2007 08:37

I am not expecting much gossip. There's a member of staff in another city who cops off which people at these parties (she's single, why shouldn't she) but she's apparently not coming to this one.

I keep hearing that various people are looking forward to meeting me, which does make me a bit nervous - if you just knew MrNQC, I think you'd expect for him to be married to someone ... well, someone with hair, for a start.

God, do I really have to shave my pits? I have to shave my head too. And I don't think I have any knee-highs. Ugh.

FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 08:38

Anorak, you would not have said that had you not seen NQC, the Doctor of Lurve, standing there, would you?

I have just had a veggie vindaloo for breakfast, containing cauliflower, chard, onions, potatoes, leeks, tomatoes and mushrooms. Maybe not a whole portion of each though, it was a medium sized bowl. Am about to have an apple and a glass of orange juice. Banana lined up for later.

What a busy evening, I was out having serious sister to sister talks last night, so missed all the fun. Still had to be done
Dts start nursery for the first time today, so feel a bit emotional.
So far I have had a pear and a plum for bkfast, no phnar there then.
Will be around this evening, so will hopefully catch up with people then

gscrym · 24/04/2007 10:31

I had a bowl of weetaflakes and fruit for brekkie with a berry smoothie. There's a couple of handfuls of berries in with some fresh juice. I feel well on my way to 10 portions (well 5 at least).

FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 10:40

Oh Overrun I bet you feel quite wobbly I hope they have a good time. Are things ok with your sister now? I know your family cause you grief regularly. Did the talk help?

BTW I think the pear could be phnar if it was a ripe juicy one

Gscrym yay! Great start and sounds gorgeous (well, except for the shiteoflakes )

NGalore I hope you are finding some time to eat ENOUGH. I think that would be an achievement in itself, never mind getting 10 a day...

Greeny you just KNOW I am going to have something to say about curry for breakfast. Therefore you are just doing it to be attention seeking. So I am going to ignore it. And possibly take some pasta out of your jar

FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 10:41

Oh I just ate 2 small pears, a plum (phnartastic) and a satsuma

Overrun · 24/04/2007 10:44

Hi Franny, yes I am a bit wobbly, not sure how I am going to cope with two little ones crying when I leave (if this is what they do) I feel excited for them too though, its a new phase, and am looking forward to proud moments of being given paintings etc
BTW, it was juicy

hello every one else

Greensleeves · 24/04/2007 10:45

I don't mind. As long as it's organic fair trade gluten-free hypoallergenic millet pasta (which I DO actually have some of)

I am having a shit day already ( we haev had a threatening phone call from the council to say that they have passed us to bailiffs and it is THEIR mistake, we haven't defaulted. And I have bruises where ds1 attacked me yesterday and I am dreading picking him up from nursery. AND ds2 has got diarrhoea. Oh, and dh is working overtime again tonight.

So....I think curry for breakfast is a fairly venial transgression

I can feel a peanut butter sandwich coming on though.

gscrym · 24/04/2007 10:45

What sort of cereal could I have if Weetaflakes aren't good? I could train myself to eat porridge or is there something else cold I could have? I always try to steer clear of those oaty/crumbly things because I thought they were very sugary. All suggestions greatfully received.

Greensleeves · 24/04/2007 10:46

it was home-made fat-free organic veggie curry

NotQuiteCockney · 24/04/2007 10:48

What is wrong with curry for breakfast? I mean, it sounds like it had a range of veg in it, hopefully some protein, and some carb.

I am feeling a bit out of sorts, warm and fuzzy. DS1 wants to go swimming, so we're off. Run run run run scurry scurry scurry.

Overrun · 24/04/2007 10:48

Greeny, your curry sounds lovely. What an awful start to the day too. HOpe it improves for you all. Why did your ds attack you, or was there no rhyme or reason to it?

FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 10:50

Overrun - will it help them to have one another?

Greeny I am sorry Maybe not the right thread but what do you do when your ds is hitting you? I just move out of the way sharpish if ds tries that, and will leave the room if he continues to try. I do accept his anger but I don't accept being hit, and I don't think you should either.

I bloody love peanut butter sandwiches and I had one for lunch yesterday.

Gscrym have what you like for breakfast - there aren't any banned foods on here - I just don't like weetaflakes and need to sneer at them

Quite a few of us have RAW OATS which I know from the fact we are always banging on about them. I add sunflower and pumpkin seeds to mine. What do other people have?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 24/04/2007 10:51

If I can't even scoff at Greeny having curry for breakfast then there is no justice and no fun left in the world

Greensleeves · 24/04/2007 10:52

He had a monster tantrum because I made us go home earlier than planned from a friend's house, because he had behaved appallingly (threw cake and bits of coconut all over her kitchen). So he kicked, punched, slapped and clawed me until eventually I had to strap him into ds2's buggy and walk home with ds2 walking. Which is no bad thing in itself, ds2 likes walking.

Anyway, enough about me, back to the vegetable porn

NappiesGalore · 24/04/2007 10:55

oh franky, do nt be worrying about me, silly! this thread has either sorted me right out, or coincided with a desire to do same... prob both... but have been eating mases of F&V, other healthy foods, getting loads of exercise... a doing v well indeed, pleased to report.

and its good for my mental health too so even betrter!

just busy is all. and a sulky whinger too

Greensleeves · 24/04/2007 10:55

What do you do then Franny, when you have got a 2yo and a four year old, one buggy and a fair walk home to do? When the 4yo is deliberately kicking/punching/clawing etc? It's all very well to say "don't accept it", but I'm not sure what that means in practice.

Not the right thread though, I agree. And I have to go out too.

Fillyjonk · 24/04/2007 11:19

aw greeny

ah yes the walk home thing

ah yes

dunno what the answer is, its shit when you have 2 and need to do things and one of them or both plays up. i hve never worked it out

overun has 3 so she might know?
