Discharge from nipple?

Bubblegum89 · 15/12/2017 23:50

I was in the bath last night and I noticed something on my right nipple. It was what looked like discharge, only a small ball of it, it wasn’t liquid, it was solid and a yellow-y colour. I haven’t noticed it before or since. I did have a good feel and look at my boob but couldn’t feel any lumps or see anything unusual. What could be the reason for it? I daren’t google as I suffer with health anxiety!

If you're pregnant then it's normal, if you're not you should go get checked by your GP.

CremeFresh · 16/12/2017 23:14

Ignore the piercing - did it look anything like this ?

MollyHuaCha · 17/12/2017 08:59

Have you previously breast fed (even years ago)? It could be some dried milk.

Rockinghorse2019 · 27/08/2021 14:34

Anyone else had this?

fallenover · 31/08/2021 09:50

Yes I had this. It is important to get it checked out. I only had occasional discharge (twice that I was aware of). They removed the / a duct as a precaution.

Rockinghorse2019 · 31/08/2021 10:18

Thanks for replying . Really freaking out. I have seen it before but it’s slightly bigger than iv noticed before. I’ve contacted the doctors and they said they will get back to me in 14 days not helpful.

Rockinghorse2019 · 31/08/2021 16:37

Just seen doctor she thinks it’s a blocked duct. Got some cream and if not better by next week sending to hospital as she said it felt full. Freaking out!

fallenover · 01/09/2021 20:27

Yes - mine was a blocked duct. Don't freak out. Mine was dealt with very quickly.

Rockinghorse2019 · 01/09/2021 20:55

Thank you fallen over can I ask what they did? I can only find information on blocked ducts when breastfeeding. We’re you breast feeding? I only did it for 2 months 2 years ago. So it seems strange.

Rockinghorse2019 · 03/09/2021 13:58

Got an appointment at breast clinic very worried.

Yerzplz · 04/09/2021 01:05

@Rockinghorse2019

What is the consistency? Is it from one nipple or both? Mulitple ducts or one duct?

Rockinghorse2019 · 04/09/2021 08:27

Seen small specks from both nipples in the past but this time it is from just one. Yellow ish in colour and quite hard ball type. Feels stuck and won’t come off. Not sure if from one duct or multiple.

Yerzplz · 04/09/2021 09:42

If you have yellow coming from both it is usually to do with hormones, I did a-lot of research as I had a more worrying type that resulted in two operations. Yours could be duct ectasia or physiological, usually yellow and milky is no cause for concern. Nipple discharge is not usually cancer in the main. Mine was a red flag discharge and even that was not cancer.

Rockinghorse2019 · 04/09/2021 16:05

Yezplz - Could I ask you a few questions if you have done alit of research?

It’s just a hard bit of yellow discharge in one nipple. That’s why the gp thinks it’s a blocked duct. I’ve been having warm baths and that seems to bring it out more. I’ve just gone on the mirena coil .

Rockinghorse2019 · 04/09/2021 17:45

This is what it looks like . Is this what you mean I keep crying the doctor has really worried me .

SergeiL · 04/09/2021 17:48

Good luck with your appointment. It does sound like a blocked duct. I had bleeding from the nipple which turned out to be not due to cancer. They don’t know why. Good to get an appointment at the clinic quickly.

Yerzplz · 04/09/2021 19:07

It does look possibly hormonal and as you have just gone on the coil it would explain things.

You need to stop squeezing and trying to make it come out, this will make it worse and come out more. I know its hard but you should stop.

If it is a blocked duct they will see right away on the ultrasound, and with that colour discharge is one less red flag colours.

Yerzplz · 04/09/2021 19:09

Sorry that colour is not as worrisome as clear or blood coloured.

Rockinghorse2019 · 05/09/2021 07:26

The go tried to get it out as she thought it looked stuck. Is yellow not a worrying. As you can tell I’m worrying trying to hold it together! I have a hospital appointment tomorrow at gynae do you think it is worth asking them?

toastfiend · 05/09/2021 08:36

I had yellow discharge from one nipple that was kind of 'stuck'. I also had quite a noticeable lump in that breast. GP saw me that day and referred me to the breast clinic, which I think is just standard procedure so try not to let the fact of being referred worry you, which I know is easier said than done.

In short, mine turned out to be nothing. I have quite knotted, lumpy tissue in my breasts - fibrocystic breasts, I think, and the lump and discharge were related to that. The consultant at the breast clinic basically said, if you squeeze hard enough you'll often get something from your breasts, and to stop prodding at them because that just encourages further discharge. I completely understand how worried you must be feeling but, as others have said, I don't think yellow is generally considered to be one of the "worrying" colours, and, looking at the level of referrals to the breast clinic that turn out not to be sinister, it is more likely to have a simple explanation than to be something more worrying. I hope your appointment goes well, I found everyone to be extremely kind and reassuring at the breast clinic.

Rockinghorse2019 · 05/09/2021 20:55

Thank you for your reply. It has helped.

I realised my previous post didn’t make much sense! As you can gather I’m rather stressed.

I think I have seen it before just not this much. I’m hoping the gynaecologist tomorrow (follow up appointment regarding something else) might help a little and say it could be the mirena coil and hormonal. But I have the breast clinic the week after. I keep breaking down and crying all the time.

Rockinghorse2019 · 05/09/2021 21:22

I keep feeling sick . Hope that’s just stress and not linked to something bad.

Glitterheart · 05/09/2021 21:47

I had something similar recently - GP sent me for blood test to check prolactin levels which were fine. She put it down to side effects of medication and hormone contraceptive. Obviously get it thoroughly checked out but it seems there are many benign reasons for this happening.

Rockinghorse2019 · 05/09/2021 21:59

@Glitterheart nipple discharge or feeling sick?

Standrewsschool · 05/09/2021 22:00

Glad you’re being seen. Hoping it’s nothing sinister.
