that is hot, bathing I guess would help
d had this temp when she had measles but stayed relatively lucid although slept deeply
is there any other symptom yet? Most docs on NHS direct say temp alone not an issue but how child seems is...
lethrgic is not good and we all know what a little human dynamo your ds usually is..
worth a call to your after hours gp I reckon just to check him out before nightfall...
hugs hope he is ok

zebra · 20/07/2004 17:39

That's really hot! Phone NHS Direct?!

lou33 · 20/07/2004 17:44

Tepid sponging. Underarm temps are 1 degree lower than ear temps, so I would call the gp as well, or a & e. Hope he gets better.

hercules · 20/07/2004 17:52

Sorry to hear - let us know how he goes.

gingernut · 20/07/2004 18:03

Agree that is very hot. I'd give ibuprofen if you have some, I find it usually works better than paracetamol for reducing temp. And tepid sponging works well. If you can't get his temp down to below 39C I'd seek medical advice.

MadameButterfly · 20/07/2004 18:03

I have managed to get her to call NHS direct as his temp is still 41/106.

lou33 · 20/07/2004 18:25

Give him ibuprofen and paracetamol.

Dh is doing the dvd's this week, so that may cheer him up.

daisy1999 · 20/07/2004 18:50

luke warm flannel on head, leave hair to dry naturally. I find nurofen better than calpol as well. Both can be used together safely.

that is very hot. ds was admitted to hospital with a temp of 41.4 that just wouldn't come down. turned out to be an ear infection!!

he was younger than your ds (2 yrs) but i would def ring your gp or nhs direct.

maisystar · 20/07/2004 18:55

he did spend 4 nights in hospital though cos the temp wouldn't come down!

hope your ds feels better soon.

bundle · 20/07/2004 19:00

never had a temp that high, essbee, but sounds good that he's more himself

zebra · 20/07/2004 19:01

SB: I can remember when I was about 6yo having a temp of 103-104... I felt awful with it. Think my mom was advised that above 104 was when 2 worry.

CountessDracula · 20/07/2004 19:14

sb I would go straight to A&E with that temp

Piffleoffagus · 20/07/2004 19:14

ds used to convulse at temp over 38.2...
dd has had temps of 42 and still remains lucid and below par but still herself enough to lose the real panic scenario...
Odd how children vary... Sb trust your instinct if you are that worried, get him seen, is he complaining of any pains etc???

ds had a temperature a bit lower than this & we took him to A&E & they admitted him immediately. So if I were you I'd take him in, though I can appreciate the hassle factor. Let us know how he is.

bundle · 20/07/2004 19:23

essbee can you leave dd with someone?
