People who never get colds?

Please advise what you do to never get colds? I’m willing to try anything. I take multivitamins every day but that appears to do nothing to help!

I rarely get colds but I don’t think it’s through anything I do. Just luck?

My DH gets sick a lot though and has tried everything (vitamins, echinacea, propylis etc etc.......)

He now takes probiotics regularly which seems to have made quite a big difference.

I tried First Defence for the first time a few weeks ago. I was getting the classic early signs of a cold... and it actually stopped it.

I was utterly amazed and surprised. I guess the cold could have fizzled out on its own, and it’s impossible to be absolutely sure but I am definitely definitely going to buy it again the next time my sinuses feel blocked and I get that feeling in my throat.

Other than that, get the flu jab so you don’t pick that up! (Or at least, if you do it’ll be more mild)

I haven't had a cold for years since I stopped using public transport for commuting. Am pretty hot on hand hygiene too and always carry hand gel. Contactless payments are the best thing since sliced bread imo, I hate touching those manky keypads.

Ellapaella · 12/10/2017 18:52

My mum never gets colds. I don’t know how she does it but I am very jealous. I am constantly surrounded by young children, teenagers and work in a hospital and I get them all the time. I seem to get them a lot worse as I’m getting older, the amount of snot I am able to produce these days is ridiculous. I wish I knew the secret to never catching one too.

Ellapaella · 12/10/2017 18:52

Wine what is first defence?

megletthesecond · 12/10/2017 18:54

Heaven knows. 10yr old DS never gets colds. He sucked his thumb for years and has allergies. I've barely seen a bogey on him Confused.

I got fewer colds once I wore contact lenses, better hand hygiene and I never touch my eyes I guess.

TroysMammy · 12/10/2017 18:58

I get quite a mild cold once a year. I put it down to picking my nose and eating the snots as a child. Before anyone discredits this theory I enjoyed the sneakiness and the digging around. Grin

My last cold was in 2007! I live with lots of cats, dogs and teenagers so I guess my immune system is quite tough. I'm also far from houseproud and work in a care environment. I'm sure that's helped!

GoingRogue · 12/10/2017 22:24

TroysMammy that's what my dh says!! Grin (about the eating your bogeys = better immune system). He is actually never ill so maybe it has some truth to it !

Re: Vit C 1,000mg. I've been taking liposomal Vit C for a month now and not been ill (my immune system is shocking). This stuff:

liposomal Vit C

Apparently it's more effective as goes into your system rather than peeing it out? Bloody expensive mind, and not sure I can afford to take it every month Confused

I just think it's luck; I genuinely can't remember the last time I had a cold or was unwell at all apart from the odd hangover - I don't have a particularly healthy lifestyle - overweight, don't do much exercise and don't eat much fruit and veg, my house isn't that clean Grin - my parents (in their 80s) have a very robust constitution so maybe it's genetic as well?

GoingRogue · 13/10/2017 13:12

I deffo think it's genetic. Maybe 75% genes 25% diet and lifestyle?

My house is relatively clean and tidy, I'm just about in the healthy BMI range, eat a crazy amount of fresh fruit and veg, get a min 8hrs sleep every night AND have an afternoon nap of 30-60mins a couple of times a week...and I'm a right old sick note...just like my Mum was.

Rarely suffer from normal colds, and that includes all 4 of us. My husband used to have a markedly seasonal bout of fluey thing during december but since he has taken up outdoor jogging and plenty of fresh-ginger juice in tea, he has had just one bout in the last 5 years. My DD and DS had their usual share while in toddlers but at 16 and 9, it has been a lot less. Oh we dont have a hugely clean house nor do we insist on lot of hand washing....but it is one of those things i suppose.
