Molluscum Contagiosum - HELP!!!

Lizadot · 01/10/2017 18:59

Please help - does anyone have a tried and tested cure for Molluscum Contagiosum?? My DD(6) has had them for approximately 2 years and they are showing absolutely no sign of going! The ones on her torso have improved but the ones around her buttocks/top of legs/bottom area just aren’t going away. They get inflamed/sore/infected and she’s a bit self conscious of them now. I have taken her back to the dr who suggested an emollient in the bath, bathing every day, applying an antiseptic cream after bathing and gave me some Fucidin cream but none of this has worked. I thought they would be gone within 18months - 2years, how long can this pesky virus last?! 😩

Molludab and similar is supposed to help although with dd a few things we tried didn't help

labradottie · 01/10/2017 19:38

Can never be sure that they weren't just about to go away on their own, but my dd's cleared shortly after dabbing daily with tea tree oil. Your poor DD they are annoying and unsightly, hope it's not for too much longer.

TheColdDoesBotherMeAnyway · 01/10/2017 19:42

If they are becoming inflamed that is a good sign that they are on their way out - they get bigger and redder as the body finally recognises them as an infection. Both of my dds had it, the final few months they went like that. They took around 2 years to clear completely.
If they are particularly inflamed a warm flannel will draw the pus out, rub a bit of sudocrem on afterward.
We finally get the bastard things out of the house and then a few weeks later dd2 got a verruca

Lizadot · 02/10/2017 11:34

Thanks everyone. It just seems never ending. At one point they were all quite inflamed and I thought maybe they might be on their way out but no, they hung on in there! I will investigate the ointment and tea tree oil - anything is worth a shot at this stage.

I gave up on DIY remedies with my DS when they were still spreading after 18 months or so and went to GP for liquid nitrogen. Took a couple of goes and wasn't comfortable for him, but that got rid of them. Not in UK tho so don't know if they do things differently there.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 02/10/2017 11:43

I'm pretty certain we had DD1s frozen off - I'm going back 24 years mind you, so memory diabolical, but I seem to remember our doc referred us to the hospital who used liquid nitrogen (maybe?!) to freeze them off.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 02/10/2017 11:44

X-posted Gin !!! We are in UK, so yes, liquid nitrogen

SmellySphinx · 02/10/2017 11:55

My daughter has them at the moment they are finally going after about a year. I read somwhere that showers are better than bathing as the virus can live in water. Other than putting on plasters and savlon when they start to show signs of bursting I've left them alone.

pinkingshears · 02/10/2017 11:59

We saw a homeopath when my ds and dd had them.
Cleared within a fortnight.
So sorry cant remember what we were given but it stopped it dead.
GP was utterly useless. Ds has scars on torso and dd on face Sad

Lizadot · 03/10/2017 22:07

Thanks for your advice everyone. @pinkingshears - I will look into that, thank you. A few are very inflamed at the mo - praying it could be a sign they are clearing up although this has happened before and she just got a whole new batch of them. She’s got a really nasty one on her buttock and it hurts for her to sit down 😢 wish the drs would do more to help this. I’ve read that MolluDab can be got on prescription now but clearly the drs aren’t willing to prescribe it. Due to cost no doubt. Might just suck up the £20+ and give it a try. My poor dd is utterly fed up with them now and I hate that I can’t seem to help her.

Try cider vinegar for the verruca. Ds had one for months and we tried lots of things.

Honestly, cotton wool dipped in it, Elastoplasted on at night and taken off at day. Filing gently with an emery board once a week.

Within days they looked better and they went really quickly.

Hot bath, good squeeze ,once the white pip is out it will heal. I found that once I did that a few times the rest disappeared. I think it is a similar principle to veruccas as in if you cause trauma it alerts the immune system to fight back! Worked with all of my kids.

mbb1 · 03/10/2017 22:50

Molludab, over the counter from boots. Sorts it out with no messing around.

IamDBCooper · 03/10/2017 22:51

We found pricking them with a sterile needle made them bleed, scab up and fall off.

0hCrepe · 03/10/2017 22:54

The dr froze some on my ds's on his bum (awful for him) but they went soon after

MouseLandlady · 03/10/2017 22:57

GP told me he doesn't normally advise picking things but in this case, do it. The virus sits on the skin but if you pick them so they bleed, it gets into the system and the body fights it. They were gone in two weeks.

GreenTulips · 03/10/2017 23:05

This works - wash on and wash of twice a week - goes very quickly

Ds's went quickly after two or three big red sore ones flared up, so I think yours are on the way out OP. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Daisy2315 · 03/10/2017 23:08

We used tea tree cream from Holland and Barrett on dd. This helped clear them up really quickly.

sm40 · 03/10/2017 23:18

My doctor in south east London prescribed molludab. I walked in and asked for it directly!
I think as they pop they reinfect so it's a bit of a battle but with molludab they popped within 2 weeks. Some more did appear but eventually got on top of them.
My dr said molludab lasts a month and would only do 3 months at a time before having a 6 month break!
Good luck!

BillyJoel · 03/10/2017 23:45

Dd1 had them for 2 years. When dd3 got them, we put on Elizabeth Arden 24 hour cream. Stopped in a couple of weeks and never got to the hideous scabby stage dd1 had. DD1 had them on thighs so sore and sweaty. Has now got scars.

IamDBCooper · 04/10/2017 09:24

Sudocrem helps as well

Ojoj1974 · 04/10/2017 09:30

I used a sterilised needle and popped the skin and squeezed them all out.took ages, they bled but all went.
We tried homeopathy and immune
Boosting medicines but nothing worked except popping
