Vaginal burning (really bloody sore)

ohshiz · 03/09/2017 18:17

I went to the GP today and from a visual examination (no swab) she said it's thrush. Now I'm a thrush veteran so I'd never go to the docs about this usually; it was the different symptom that prompted me. The opening to my vagina burns like fucking hell. Can that really be thrush?? If so, I took fluconazole at 8.30 am - when will it kick in? Also slapping on cream but can't use pessaries or anything internal.

How old are you and did it come on suddenly or gradually?

lovemylover · 04/09/2017 20:12

Sounds more like cysitis.which i have got just this last week, started with burning and stinging, but got worse when i went went for a wee, went to GP and was given antibiotics, but only 3 days worth, still got it, but if i were you i would go back, maybe to a different DR in the practic

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 05:53

The first tablet last Sunday seemed to help a bit but then the burning came back. I've now taken a second thrush tablet (yesterday). Saw second doctor but she didn't examine me as I was on my period. The burning is still there, not worse to wee, and I have a mild tummy ache. It's a permanent burning over the vulva and entrance to my vagina. I'm 29.

Are you using sanitary towels or panty liners?
I had had bad reactions to a couple of different brands

Gooseberrytart4 · 10/09/2017 07:12

Thrush was painful to me

highinthesky · 10/09/2017 07:14

Not happy with the tummy ache. You need an abdominal examination to see if it's related.

Any fever, flank pain?

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 13:39

I saw a locum today. She said my vagina is very dry - like menopausal dry. I'm 29. The burning is god awful. Please share your tips

For external dryness I was advised to use dermol cream as a wash and epaderm ointment after to moisturise. Changed my life after years of dry/sore/irritated vulvar area. Not sure re vaginal dryness though sorry

highinthesky · 10/09/2017 14:40

That would explain the burning - the skin may have been on the way to fissuring.

Are you having some bloods done? Were you not offered topical oestrogen?

PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 14:44

You need to go back and be given Ovestin cream- weak estrogen cream to use vaginally and outer bits. Did they not offer this????

Cakescakescakes · 10/09/2017 14:49

I had something similar. Also hormonal I think somworse at various times. I was given Dermol cream to apply after every time I used the toilet and a steroid cream to use twice a day to calm the flare up. After about a month of this it was much better. Now i use the steroid cream if I have a flare up and keep using the Dermol a couple of times a day. It is a soap substitute so you can also use it for washing. I also switched to eco sanitary products (Naty or Natracare which made a massive difference to the irritation).

It took a year for a GP to diagnose what was wrong with me - I had months of thrush treatment before trying this regimen.

You can buy Dermol over the counter or online and can also buy 1% hydrocortisone cream which is a steroid cream.

Because of my youngish age and lack of other perimenopausal symptoms my GP said an oestrogen cream wasn't appropriate at this time.

Try the emollient and steroid cream combo.

Cakescakescakes · 10/09/2017 14:50

And I was in tears every day for months with the burning pain. Now it's totally fine if I keep on top of the dryness. My GP said it's very common in women who have breastfed for any length of time?

PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 15:08

Because of my youngish age and lack of other perimenopausal symptoms my GP said an oestrogen cream wasn't appropriate at this time.

That's just bad advice.
If it's down to hormones, estrogen is needed. It only acts locally on the tissues- it's not absorbed. If women who have breastfed need it, that's because of low hormones too and the treatment is Ovestin estrogen cream.

highinthesky · 10/09/2017 15:12

No, definitely do not apply steroids unless you have been medically advised to do so by someone who has examined your genital area. Getting this wrong can have serious consequences!

donajimena · 10/09/2017 15:17

I had something similar. I ended up going to a sexual health clinic as they are the best people for all things fanjo.
It turned out to be vulval dermatitis. Aqueous cream really helped which she told me to use to wash with. I had it for about 3 months. You are better off going straight to the clinic as GPs can only diagnose so much

donajimena · 10/09/2017 15:18

Lidocaine helped too. Please go and see an expert.

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 15:32

I'm back at the walking centre. In tears. Gynodaktarin as prescribed is agony. I'm on the pill (only started two days ago mind) so now getting some oestrogen

OP posts:
donajimena · 10/09/2017 15:50

Please go to sexual health clinic as soon as you can. Daktarin is for thrush isn't it? I was in agony too. You need lidocaine but you must see an expert as my GP didn't know.

donajimena · 10/09/2017 15:51

Mine was nothing to do with oestrogen nor was it thrush. It wasn't an STI either.

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 15:59

Been given replens??

OP posts:
PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 16:02

Replens is a vaginal moisturiser that you can buy OTC. The best one to use, recommended by gynaes, is YES.
You need to ask your GP for a referral to a gynae. Is there any reason why you are dry like someone menopausal? Breast feeding? skipping periods?

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 16:09

She's concerned I'm entering the menopause. I'm 29. I'm sat in tears in the car park. I've been having irregular periods hence put on contraceptive pill just two days ago to regulate.

I have two daughters 7 and 3 but didn't breastfeed.

OP posts:
PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 16:24

Okay- she needs to refer you to a gynae AND give you vaginal estrogen. Please go back and insist. I cannot understand why she won't give you estrogen cream if she thinks this is early menopause! That is the treatment as well as possibly full HRT.

Replens might make you a bit 'wetter' but it won't tackle the root of the problem.

I'm so sorry. You can look at the website the Daisy Network which os for women with premature menopause. www.daisynetwork.org.uk

There is a lot of info on the site. You can also read the forums on Menopause Matters website - there are sometimes young women who post there.

Please insist your GP refers you- you need specialist help.

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 16:58

Polly can't have oestrogen cream without gynaes saying so as got combined pill.

OP posts:
PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 17:01

I'm sorry but your GP is completely wrong. I'm very well up on menopause. The treatment for some women in premature menopause IS the COCP but that doesn't mean you cannot use vaginal estrogen as well. Vaginal estrogen only works in the vagina. It's not absorbed. There is no reason at all why you can't be on the Pill and use it. Please change your GP because yours appears to be clueless.
