Vaginal burning (really bloody sore)

I went to the GP today and from a visual examination (no swab) she said it's thrush. Now I'm a thrush veteran so I'd never go to the docs about this usually; it was the different symptom that prompted me. The opening to my vagina burns like fucking hell. Can that really be thrush?? If so, I took fluconazole at 8.30 am - when will it kick in? Also slapping on cream but can't use pessaries or anything internal.

I have this. I use Cottons sanitary towels and liners from Boots which has improved things. However I sometimes can't help myself scratching so I put some sudocrem on today and the burn has gone. I'm 33, 2 kids. My hormones have gone to pot.

farfarawayfromhome · 10/09/2017 17:16

It could be chlamydia. Have you been tested?

highinthesky · 10/09/2017 18:14

Suddenly everyone's a medic. Let's not label the GP as "useless". It's a mixed clinical picture, and we're learning only part of the story online. That's no substitution for a full clinical history and medical examination.

OP, I hope you get to the bottom of this soon.

I had horrid burning that was thrush based - I react badly to clotrimazole and my skin sort of disintegrates when I get thrush which is what seems to make it burn. I've used hydrocortisone or hc + clotrimazole in the past which helped.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

High I've used HRT and Ovestin for 10 years and my work includes talking to gynaes. I know what the OP is being told is incorrect. If her GP thinks she is having a premature menopause (yet says she is not in peri menopause- yeah, that makes sense, doesn't it Hmm because they are the same thing) then she ought to be given estrogen cream.

60sname · 10/09/2017 18:28

I had this for a bit and it was the scented shower gel I was using (think it was Radox) and when I switched to Sanex the problem cleared up within two days

  • Peri menopause and premature menopause- how can GP say she is not perimenopausal ( start of changing hormones) yet suspect premature menopause (start of changing hormones before age of 40.)

No, what she needs is bloods to confirm her hormone levels. Topical oestrogen can be given empirically based on symptoms, but it doesn't get the the bottom of the problem. The OP needs a diagnosis and not just a sticking plaster.

Although a sticking plaster on the fanjo...no!

PollyPerky · 10/09/2017 19:47

If you bother to RTFT you will see that I have suggested the OP asks for a referral to a gynae who is the best person to diagnose premature menopause, read the Daisy Network site and go back to her GP in the first instance. And yes blood tests are needed but these have to be done at certain times of the month and cannot be done if someone is using hormonal contraception. So she's going to have a long bloody wait while she is sore.

No one is suggesting a sticking plaster. Ovestin is the correct treatment for dry vagina which her GP has already diagnosed along with a suggestion she is having a premature menopause. It won't do any harm anyway even if it's not the right treatment unlike treatments for thrush etc which will make it more sore.

Google Lichen Schlerosus, does it fit your symptoms? A poster further back mentioned a 'condition' that I imagine was this - I have it too, it's not the nicest fanny problem to have 😡

ohshiz · 11/09/2017 08:24

I'm going to go private and pay for a one off consultation with a gynae. I can't cope with the stress of waiting. On top of all this I'm getting married in 3.5 weeks, moving house in 2 weeks and just started a new job. This has tipped me over

I saw a gynae consultant and I'm fine! Totes normal examination, no early onset menopause at all, the burning was just from untreated thrush and has now cleared up. Thanks to the GPs putting the fear of god into me though

Glad you've got to the bottom of it! Good luck with the move and wedding 👰

Been using ovestin for 4 months for VA and it makes vulva sore. Does anyone have experience of using epaderm to soothe it, gp gave me some. Not sure whether to wash with it or use it after and leave on.

sadie9 · 04/06/2021 15:42

You could ask for vagifem pessaries instead.

susiefreebie · 04/06/2021 18:24

Will epaderm soothe soreness on vulva after using ovestin cream for VA?
