Sudden Dizzy Spells/ Falling Sensation

Any idea what this and and what causes it? The last few hours I have felt like I am just about to drop, sudden waves of faintness like being weightless, like on a swing. It's really scarey actually because it feels like my heart is about to stop! Probably nothing but thought i'd ask. Tried google but didn't get much.

Thanks xXx

Stupid question time: Have you recently given up smoking?

If so that's your answer. If not, I have no idea, sorry.

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:09

No, am a non smoker

Could be lots of things- blood sugar, exhaustion, virus- or sounds a bit like the panic attacks I have.

mosschops30 · 01/04/2007 19:10

Labrynthitis??

Try walking in a straight line by putting your feet in front of each other (ie heel to toe IYKWIM), if you veer to one side or fall over then its probably this

CadburyCremeSquonk · 01/04/2007 19:10

sorry then.

And I too am a non smoker

now

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:10

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:11

no idea on BP, but I was badly aneamic after DS was born, needed (but didnt have) a blood transfusion. He is 1 yr old now though.

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:12

OP posts:
Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:14

vertigo? Isn't that what you get up ladders? Very similar feeling though

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 01/04/2007 19:16

No, it is a common misconception that you only get vertigo at heights.

Try Check lst for dizziness symptoms.

SaintGeorge · 01/04/2007 19:16

list

stoppinattwo · 01/04/2007 19:17

Oh QP does sound like vertigo, I have had that for the last few months. Does it feel like your moving or things around you are moving. if its you, it could be an ear infection, if other things then it could be vertigo

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:18

call 999 as I answered yes to the dizzy bit Might try NHS direct, but, not sure what they could/would do

I had these dizzy spells a few years ago, scared the hell out of me as at one point my legs when to jelly and i literally couldn't stand up by myself. I felt sort of seasick and a bit like that sensation of being in a lift and that dizzy feeling when it comes to a stop.

With me it was an ear infection - couldn't believe how much it affected my balance!

I have some foul bug that is making me feel like th is at the moment. Have had labrynthitis a while back, this is very similar (although don't feel like I'm going to fall over quite as much) but not sure if it is it again. Feel very nauseous at times, very wobbly, very faint. Been going on for over a week now and it is driving me nuts. Do you feel fine for a bit and then suddenly get hit by a wave of weirdness?

looneytune · 01/04/2007 19:21

QP. If you have kids to look after and it's affecting your ability to do this properly (as it did mine - lucky dh was around) then I would probably go down to a&e - can you get someone to take you?

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:22

yeah, feel ok then suddenly like drunk ish. cant explain it. Like my head had filled with water aswell, and tipping forward slightly would cause my whole head to flop right forward. And like for a split second all my muscles have given up, and my heart stopped. Then switches back on again and I am a little better.

Sorry didn't mean a&e, meant the out of hours dr's that are normally in hospitals - ours is Red Doc.

looneytune · 01/04/2007 19:25

Just meant it's probably best to get some medication if needed if dh won't be there tomorrow.

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 19:27

I really didn't think this would be serious at all Righty-o, will let you know what whoever I talk to says. xXx
