I've been in hospital the last week, right side of my face has gone numb and palsy of the mouth and eye. My arm is numb In some places.
Had mri and lumbar puncture which was clear.
Waiting to be transferred to a neurology unit on tuesay.
I'm also so exhausted.
My inflammatory markers are high but recently diagnosed with liver disease.
Any ideas what this could be?
Deep down I'm thinking MS. Drs think it is autoimmune.
It's all happened suddenly.

I am not any help on the medical front, but as the worlds worst worrier, I urge you not to over think or worry. The two tests have come back clear which is good. Try to trust what trust what the Drs say. I wish you all the very best & super speed recovery.

Thank you @spring Flowers

Again, not a doctor.
Could it be Bell's Palsy?
If its just your face that is affected.

TheFirstMrsDV · 20/08/2017 12:03

Sorry. I missed the bit about your arm.

bluebannana · 20/08/2017 13:17

I work in stroke (not a medic) when I trained I was taught that stroke was a clinical diagnosis (based on symptoms rather than scan results) as not all small strokes show up on scans. In more recent years there seems to have been a shift amoung the medics towards if its not on the MRI it can't be a stroke.

As you can imagine we see a lot of people in your situation, it's good that you have a nurologist investigating. It is also not uncommon to have these symptoms with no medical cause being found. That is termed a "functional" problem i.e. a problem in the way the nervous system is functioning even though there is no structural changes on any tests or examinations. These problems are often (though not always) related to stress. There is a very good website created by a neuroligist www.neurosymptoms.org

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 20/08/2017 17:22

That's really interesting about the change of medics views with strokes and mri imaging. Hospital was 99% certain it was a stroke due to sudden onset and the headache and now it's all in limbo. Will check that site now thank you

Where is your nearest neuro unit ??

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 21/08/2017 06:25

Nope not guille-barre as lumbar puncture was ok.
Nearest unit is Swansea

What a dreadful time, I can understand your anxiety Flowers

Try not to think of the worst. As you know, the diagnosis of neurological conditions is very tricky and may depend on repeat episodes. Concentrate instead on your immune recovery.

highinthesky · 21/08/2017 06:33

Immediate recovery!

GossamerApronStrings · 21/08/2017 06:57

Had a similar episode myself, in hospital a week with what they were initially sure was a stroke. Scans and lumbar puncture were clear. Eventually it was deemed an "atypical migraine", likely caused by my autoimmune conditions. At the time I'd already been diagnosed with Lupus, but 8 years later after many more odd neuro symptoms (& finally some GI symptoms) was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Both are autoimmune diseases and both can cause weird neuro symptoms which won't show up on scans or nerve tests. Might be worth investigating? Rheumatology wouldn't necessarily test for celiac though, so that might require a GI doctor.

Chattermummy · 21/08/2017 07:12

I hope you make a good recovery. Could it be a migraine? I had a suspected TIA a few years ago that ended up being diagnosed as a migraine. Symptoms: numb face, dropped mouth, numb tingling arm and leg.

OhOhDearling · 21/08/2017 07:16

so you've been unwell. I remember your tongue ulcer thread (as have something similar I need to get checked out) , if you haven't already, mention that to the staff treating you, as they might be able to get an oral surgeon to check it while you are in.

Bluebannana · 21/08/2017 08:02

Migraine is another posibility, DH has full on stroke symptoms with his migaines onesided weakness and numbness, speech problems, visual problems.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 21/08/2017 09:35

The hospital I'm going to is the same one with maxillofacial dept so will get that sorted the same time.
Not sure if linked but the more tired I am the worse my symptoms are. Hopefully get answers tomorrow.
Thank you all

I have had many attacks similar to yours. Diagnosis range from TIA, migraines, fibromyalgia , conversion disorder and for a long time Todd's Paralysis. Now looks to be MS. Google Todd's paralysis. I don't have epilepsy, but Todd's can appear without.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 21/08/2017 23:16

Just googled it now and my symptoms match apart from they haven't gone away in 48 hrs
