ive been to see nurse practioner today.

a few days ago i had raging thrush so used my usual cream (i used to be plagued and its canestan resisitant) i now get it rarely.

im ttc and over the fertile window we were dtd up to 3 times daily. (not a chore! lol)
anyway a few days ago i noticed a painful swelling at the entrance to my vagina to the left. its got worse. and worse.
went to gp today and nurse could clearly see and feel huge lump - she took swabs and has started me on antibiotics.

what the heck could it be? its not a blocked hair follicle or anything on the outside.
anyone had similar?

i dont want a wasted trip. thought gp would refer me to correct dept as it seems to be minor surgery?

i dont know what to do now - wait and see gp tomorrow for referral or just go now but dont want a wasted trip.

If you have a walk in go there, but tbh if you are in that much pain I would go yo A&E as I have seen people on here need surgery to get rid of it. Good luck.

NipInTheAir · 06/08/2017 16:14

Apologies but I thought you did say you couldn't get to a&e in a previous post.

Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 17:05

no nip driving is quite literally a pita but can get anywhere. i wasnt willing to go on friday night though for obvious reasons.

i think ill just phone gp as soon as they open in morning and see if they want to see me first or if i should just go straight to a&e then.

another few hours isnt gonna make much difference i suppose. ive dosed up on pain killers. what makes this more grim is ive got my period.

Eew. TBH I'd get to A&E at about 7.45 tomorrow morning. Before the influx sent via the GP arrives. Could save you hours.

mayhew · 06/08/2017 17:11

For the sitting agony; get two small cushions and sit down with the gap aligned under your perineum for the avoidance of pressure.

PrettyFlyForATightGuy · 06/08/2017 17:15

Overall it's probably quicker going via A&E and as you need a procedure in the hospital it's very valid going through either. If you're going to go tomorrow morning then don't eat anything after midnight and drink clear fluids up until an hour before you go to A&E/GP, that way you'll be ready to have a general anaesthetic tomorrow if that's what they think you need (probable) rather than having to wait for another 6hrs or until another day.

duffinthemule · 06/08/2017 17:16

I had one and I literally couldn't walk, sit or sleep as it was massive and in such an awkward place. In the end, after attempting antibiotics, I begged the gp and she lanced it for me. Total relief but also disgusting!

youarenotkiddingme · 06/08/2017 17:21

I had one that shrunk with 10 days of antibiotics. 3 days later it swelled again but another week of AB got rid of it.

Littlelouse · 06/08/2017 17:24

Totally agree with other posters: the GP in this case is very much the 'middleman/ woman' so you're best of going to A&E and saving yourself lots of time!

Lazyjane76 · 06/08/2017 17:25

First one I had I had to be admitted to hospital, now I self care when I get them. Hot baths, hot flannel on the area and then lie on my side with a microwaved hot oat cushion between my legs. Give it a couple of days, have a good look with a mirror and gently press - if it's ready it will burst and the relief is immense.

Lazyjane76 · 06/08/2017 17:26

I was getting them at least every 3 months - I switched to cotton sanpro and haven't had in for a while now. I really feel for you though, the pain is excruciating.

Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 17:30

I should have been clear - my GP referral was an immediate one, not a future date one. I was admitted through A&E straight to the ward, although I did have to wait in A&E for quite a while. The ward sent someone down there to assess me I seem to remember. I think it was marginally quicker than going straight to A&E would have been because they didn't triage me, just sent me straight to a cubicle. This was a while back now though so systems might have changed.

There was a farcical moment when the GP started talking about Choose and Book to me, when I could barely walk and the surgery was five minutes by bus to a major hospital. Quite why she thought at that stage I might want to go home, get online and select a hospital 45 minutes away by car I'm not sure but presumably they have to offer.

Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 18:32

ok thanks all.

ill just go to a&e first thing then, should i take a bag in case they do admit me? (im hoping not - is it really a GA job??)

ive never had one before and im mid 40s so christ knows why now.

OP posts:
Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 19:34

They were going to give me a GA before it burst.

To be fair, I wouldn't even let them touch me to examine me, so anything local would have been pretty horrible. I yearned for oblivion I think.

Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 19:51

someone here thinks it wont be priority enough to be treated straight away.

please tell me theyre wrong and i wont b sent away for weeks until im listed for something doing with it?

im happy to have it lanced and sent home

OP posts:
VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 06/08/2017 19:55

Mine popped in a hot bath. Keep bathing!

Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 19:55

I recommend telling them how much fucking pain you're in and refusing to move until someone comes at you with a needle. Wink

Seriously, they do know how painful these cysts are, and how disabling they can be. The GUM clinic lanced my developing one immediately as they knew I had a long drive the next day and 'it wouldn't be safe to drive in that much pain'.

Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 20:03

i cant work like this and im phoning in sick tomorrow. ive taken paracetamol. its no bigger than it was but the antibiotics have done precisely fuck all - that said it was a low dose metronidazole and the nurse practioner who prescribed them didnt know what this was.

im so fucking fed up.

OP posts:
Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 20:05

if they lance it i take it it will be done with a local ? i can hardly touch it let alone face the thought of a scalpel or needle going near it.

OP posts:
Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 20:06

I think they knock you out because of how painful it is.

Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 20:07

Once it's at a certain point I think they do more than lance it. There's talk of packing it out if it's basically got to being an abscess.

Myusernamewhichisthis · 06/08/2017 20:08

id rather be lanced under local and go home if its an option though and oh seems to think im wildly over estimating what theyll do tomorrow.

OP posts:
Politicspanda · 06/08/2017 20:10

You'll go straight home after a GA. You'll only be under for a short period so probably it'll be a cup of tea and a (grim) sandwich and someone to pick you up thing. They won't keep you in.

Lofari · 06/08/2017 20:16

Not the same but I remember having an absess in an unmentionable area and the pain was excruciating. I went to a+e in the end and they admitted me straight away and gave me a spinal within hours and took me to theatre to get rid.
Don't suffer any longer than you have OP
