Hello !
Had a colonoscopy on Wednesday . Wasn't to painful all looked normal and had some biopsies taken .
Bowel movements have returned and gas seems to have gone but have been left with pain in the area I would think pancreas is but not sure.
So in middle of ribs to left side. It comea and goes . Not taking anything for it so far.
Did ring the unit were it was done. They were very quick to get me of phone. Said not typical pain of colonoscopy. See GP which I plan to do. No back ache just at front. Seems to be made worse by moving around. Lifting etc.
Of course google says perforating of bowel. But feel OK in myself no temp just niggling pain. Could it be bruising ?

Could maybe still be a bit of trapped wind which can be very painful. But it's been a few days now so I would maybe see GP tomorrow. I only had a bit of discomfort for a couple of days after.

VLCos · 09/07/2017 13:14

@Ilikecrocs ah thank you . Never had one before so not sure what to expect !

I have had several colonoscopies and have never had pain afterwards. See your GP tomorrow.

VLCos · 09/07/2017 13:36

@EwanWhosearmy ah ! I will . I have a walk on clinic near me today is it worth going there ?

OP posts:
VLCos · 09/07/2017 16:27

I did ring the clinic I had it done at. They told me its common to have some discomfort even pain as I had 8 biopsies taken . It should settle take paracetamol if it gets worse call 111.

Natsku · 09/07/2017 16:38

Definitely take painkillers and see if they help as if its just irritation from them taking the biopsies or lingering gas then painkillers and rest should help and if after a while they don't then its time for the GP (unless the pain is intense but doesn't sound like it is)

VLCos · 09/07/2017 16:42

@Natsku thank you not intense just annoying. I am the type never to take painkillers but will definitely start on some

Have pain killers helped any OP?

VLCos · 09/07/2017 22:03

Glad it's eased a little for you. Hopefully you'll feel better tomorrow.

charliebear78 · 10/07/2017 09:57

Sorry to hear that.
I remember when I had my Endoscopy-which i know is the other end!!! I had pain for a few days and was starting to worry!
As you know my mum had a Colonoscopy recently and she had bad stomach pain for a day or so afterwards but mainly felt sick-she is fine now but did say it took her about a week to start to feel normal again..
You have had a camera poking about your insides and taking samples so I guess it would be a little sore afterwards.
Like me, could it be your worry over something happening that is making things worse?
Pop along to GP if things continue.
Take care.

StinkPickle · 10/07/2017 10:00

Im usually tender after a colonoscopy. If it's a bit better now then things are going to right direction. Hope you feel better soon.

VLCos · 10/07/2017 11:27

Much better today thank you all !

Ilikecrocs · 10/07/2017 13:57

That's great to hear. I've got Crohn's disease so lots of cameras over the years. They're not nice at all.

VLCos · 10/07/2017 14:17

Ah my dad gas crohns that is what they were looking for but no sign of it. Thanks for all your advice

BusterGonad · 10/07/2017 16:47

I was very shakey after mine as if my body was in shock, colonoscopes are nasty things! I hope you feel better.

VLCos · 10/07/2017 16:54

Thank you ! It's quite an experience !

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 10/07/2017 16:55

An experience I do not want to repeat soon! 😂

VLCos · 10/07/2017 17:00

Grin me neither !

I saw on the other thread that you did it without sedation? Yikes!
How did that go? As you know my mum had sedation but told me she was wide awake and remembered it all-the worst part was she was in pain-she said if she had it again she would go for gas and air and painkillers as she would then have some control over using it when she felt she needed.
(as you can probably tell I am panicking about mine.3 more weeks to go)

VLCos · 11/07/2017 12:11

@charliebear78 no sedation for me. I have had an endoscopy without sedation and thought I would go that way for the colonoscopy. Main reason is I wanted to leave quickly . I asked for gas and air only but consultant was adamant I would need pain killer . Because he said women's bowels are more bendy than males and they often need painkillers.
Before he even started he gave me some painkiller in the vein and told me to get going with the gas and air. For the first five minutes I felt high as a kite. Like I was in a nightclub in Ibiza and the machines beeping was music playing haha! Then I came back around. Stopped the gas and air pretty quickly as I didn't need it. No pain at all felt pressure from air. All over quickly.
Tender after because he took 8 biopsies . But felt OK. I didn't feel pain during it. Are you having sedation ?
He said oh you could have done it on gas and air alone after all Shock

Ilikecrocs · 11/07/2017 17:41

Whaaaatttt? No sedation? For endoscopy either! You are a god!

Natsku · 11/07/2017 17:59

I never got sedation (or gas and air) for any of my colonoscopies or endoscopies (not even the urethra endoscopy!) but never again - if they want me to have any more they'll need to knock me out, for everyone's benefit (as I nearly phoned the doctor in the dace at my last gastroscopy because I panicked when I choked)

VLCos · 11/07/2017 18:14

Not a god just stubborn Grin . I wouldn't have sedation next time if there is one both manageable but each person is different . The endoscopy was definitely worse of the two !

OP posts:
charliebear78 · 11/07/2017 20:01

This has actually made me feel better-I just had the numbing throat spray when I had my Endoscopy this Jan-reason being that I wanted to leave as soon as I could afterwards(and lets be honest it was on a Friday and I wanted to have a drink at night as I felt like I deserved one lol)
I managed it fine but when I think back-what a horrible experience! I have heard people say they thought the camera down was worst than the one up(that just has the embarrassment factor)
So can you leave even if you have had the painkillers?
I think I may go without sedation-not totally sure.
When I had the Endoscopy they practically told me they were doing it without!-which I agreed too anyway.
I still feel like I am putting myself through it all for maybe nothing.
Glad you got the all clear.
