Hi there, massive anxiety sufferer here. A lot of my anxieties centre around my health.

So these blotches appeared on my foot a few weeks ago. They went away after about 24-48 hours. They've now come back on the same part of the same foot.

What could it be? I've got a doctors appointment for Tuesday but I'm so worried so any help is much appreciated.

My mum has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and although I'm of a healthy weight, I have always eaten too much sugar so one worry is that it could be a diabetes symptom.

My anxiety has been quite severe as of late so I'm hoping it may be linked to that.

I suffer from a condition which makes me break into hives randomly but this is very different to what normally happens. The red swellings don't travel around. They feel different to hives, if that makes sense.

Please help... a very worried mum Sad

I know I'm being so impatient to bump this. It's just I've also found a possibly lump on my breast too. All of this coupled with these marks on my foot are making me feel so overwhelmed. My husband is overseas just now and I've got two small children and I'm just really struggling at the moment.

There's nothing much wrong with your foot as the 'sane' part of your brain knows. It's a rash or a reaction - something that won't lead to it dropping off

However you're suffering with health anxiety and that's what you need to focus on. If people speak to you about your foot then you'll just dwell on that when it's neither here nor there. You'll be back again in a month with a pain in your side or something

I'd try distraction techniques for the HA and if it's really bad then see your doctor. Not for the foot thing but for the anxiety

I know HA absolutely sucks as I suffer myself. I try and distract myself but I know this isn't always easy

LittleGreenPear · 18/06/2017 09:26

I've just read that back and I dont sound very sympathetic! I am I promise! But the last thing you need is long chats about what might be wrong with your foot/breast (although if you've found a lump then do see your dr!) You heed talking down from the anxiety really. Try a bath/ a gripping book/ going out and doing something/ opening up about the real issue (the HA)

UndersecretaryofWhimsy · 18/06/2017 09:29

LittleGreen is right. This isn't about your foot, which is fine.

What treatment are you having for your anxiety? When was it last reviewed?

Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 09:34

Thanks for your reply. I've already seen the doctor about my health anxiety. I'm trying mindfulness at the moment but it's early days. If that's unsuccessful, I'll be going on medication but I'm hoping to tackle it without. I wouldn't be worried about my foot but the same rash has appeared in the same place twice and the diabetes thing has me a little worried. I'm active and slim but my sugar intake has been through the roof in recent years so I suppose I'm hoping someone will come along and say it doesn't look like something linked to diabetes and that it's not something that looks worrying. I know my health anxiety needs sorted and I'm working hard on that but I'm just struggling in the mean time.

I was at the doctors 2 weeks ago about my anxiety. I have a fantastic GP. I'm in a bad place just now. Life just really seems tough Sad

OP posts:
Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 09:38

In the mean time, can anyone tell me if the rash looks like it could be linked to diabetes?

OP posts:
LittleGreenPear · 18/06/2017 09:42

Yeah is a nightmare I know. I struggle myself but spend a lot of time telling myself not to be such a bloody idiot. This may not be the way forward for you! I mean, here's an example ... I never get spots ever. I got one a few weeks ago. A complete normal spot caused by a new product I was trialling. So, I knew this ... BUT this didn't stop my mind thinking ' you never get spots! And now you've got a spot! Could this be a sign your immune system is failing on some level?'

I KNOW this is utterly insane but it's where my mind goes and I really wanted to dwell on it. I get a slight twinge in my side and I worry about ovarian issues. And so on and so forth.

I have HA because both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer within a year of each other and it triggered it in me. It's been miserable sometimes but honestly ... what can you do? Someone once said to me if you worry about something before it happens and it actually DOES happen, then you go through it twice. I don't want to go through something twice so I try and bear that mind

There's no magic wand. Try and keep a sense of perspective and try and laugh it off. And do keep seeking help for the real issue . Speak to your husband or close friends. Keep busy.

Your foot will be there tomorrow I promise

LittleGreenPear · 18/06/2017 09:43

And anyone who gives you advice on your foot would be indulging you. You haven't got bloody diabetes woman! You've got a rash on your foot

Thank you. I just wish there was an off switch for my brain Sad to stop me overthinking everything.

You've most likely been walking round barefoot in the garden and something has irritated your skin.

Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 12:07

I'd have thought like that if it had happened once but I find it odd twice in a few weeks. Exact same area, exact same rash.

OP posts:
surferjet · 18/06/2017 12:10

Op: it looks like something's bitten you? My legs are covered in very similar blotches from being in the garden a lot recently.
Does the red area itch?

surferjet · 18/06/2017 12:12

X posts with claraelsa

Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 12:13

No itching, but a mild pain and it's slightly raised too.

ive been where you are with health anxiety. the fear and panic, compulsive checking, googling, reassurance etc. let me tell you i have been so so convinced that i had so many different things wrong, ranging from common conditions to rare unheard of. i pictured myself going through treatment. guess what, months later im fine. i have none of them. even if you had diabetes, its not a death sentence, remember that. my 86 year old gran has diabetes. shes more active than most people i know. ive never read or heard of anyone being diagnosed diabetic from a rash on their foot. maybe your shoe is irritating your foot?

starting a low dose of sertraline, with a short course of diazepam is the best thing ive done for my health anxiety. its stopped the irrational thoughts, and jumping to conclusions. honestly this can go away, i do recommend some medication, and sertraline is excellent for anxiety/ocd.

surferjet · 18/06/2017 12:18

Really does sound like bites. The fact that there in the same area as last time I wouldn't worry about, there's not much room on your foot to bite so they'll be in roughly the same area.
Please try & relax (( hugs ))

PacificDogwod · 18/06/2017 12:21

Nobody can diagnose you with anything on the internet, love.
Except for your anxiety which is awful and I am sorry.

Liking/eating lots of sugar has nothing to do with diabetes.

Please continue to seek and engage with help for your anxiety.
Your foot will be fine - fleeting rashes mean next to nothing.

Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 12:25

I just feel like I don't know who I am anymore. Currently crying in my room while my kids are playing next door, trying to pull myself together and get a grip. I'm normally always, the happy, positive person. I don't know when or where it all went wrong.

OP posts:
PacificDogwod · 18/06/2017 12:29

You don't need a grip, you need love and understanding and support.
Anxiety is a real bastard, and health anxiety is a vicious bastard.

Your main problem is not your foot or your breast lump or anything else, it's your MH. I am glad you have an appointment lined up.
Thanks

Helpme214 · 18/06/2017 12:30

I've felt like this for a year... it's just too much.
