Itchy head shampoos are a bag of shit

I'm driven mad by sebhortic dermatitis. I must have forked out millions on bloody shampoos that don't work/ knacker your hair.
What else can I try?
Tgel, Moogoo don't work. Nor does Alphosyl, but that doesn't wreck your hair.
Nizarol and Oilatum have some effect, but God, the after results are awful. Wild kinky frizzy hair, that will not be calmed down
Body shop ginger shampoo made my hair go frizzy too.

Where do l go now? The cost of Nizarol and piss me off. Also, if you put conditioner on after one of these shampoos does it wash away the medical effects?

So how can l stop crazy itching or crazy frizxing. I've got betnovate scalp solution from the doctors but you aren't supposed to use it every day☹️

I rotate.nizoral, e45, t gel, . Scalp has got much better since cutting out sugar and grains
I used to use selsun which helped
Lots of people say cut out sodium laurel sulphite in shampoo, no help for me
Ds was told by gp to try simple shampoo, seemed to help him but not me

CinderellasBroom · 11/06/2017 14:51

My GP prescribed Ceanel (but you can buy it online, too) and it's worked well for me. Before that I'd had Polytar (but they stopped making it) and tried loads of others.

The Moogoo shampoo doesn't work to solve it for me, but their scalp treatment overnight helped a lot, and the shampoo doesn't cause me problems if my scalp is all right to start with.

FairfaxAikman · 11/06/2017 14:55

I have the same condition.
What I found helped the most was switching to a SLS-free shampoo.
As SLS is also the main ingredient in hand soap and dish washing liquid it made sense to me that it might be too harsh for my scalp.

LivingInMidnight · 11/06/2017 16:38

Was also going to suggest philip kingsley. The scalp tonic is nice too.

eurochick · 11/06/2017 16:50

I'd tried pretty much everything suggested on this thread over twenty years of itchiness and stumbled across something that finally worked for me by chance. It's L'Oréal Low Shampoo. It's non foaming. All these years and I think it was the foaming agent that was the problem. You do need to rinse it really well though.

Ollivander84 · 11/06/2017 16:53

I went conditioner only and that helped
Might be worth watching out for these ingredients too

You need to go to the doctor and get cocois. 4 applications in and I was amazed.

Badders123 · 11/06/2017 17:14

Try lush

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/06/2017 17:23

I tried to post on this yesterday, but for some reason l couldn't.

So I've tried olive oil only for 2 hours but it definitely calmed it down. What would l need from Lush and what is conditioner only? Not using shampoo? I have to put on loads of conditioner as my hair is streaked a lot, and have to put it up to the roots.

Olive oil made a big difference to the condition!

I tried olive oil last night as well and it's definitely calmed down a bit! It's made it lank and greasy although I did shampoo it off, but that's a small price to pay we won't mention the mess on the pillow.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/06/2017 17:40

I couldn't leave it on over night! I smelt like an Italian restaurant!

EezerGoode · 12/06/2017 19:25

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/06/2017 19:54

Yep, l did! Extra Virgin it was! Cost a bloody fortune!

Philip Kingsley shampoo for itchy scalp. There is a toner to put on afterwards as well. Costs, but does work.

IlsaLund · 12/06/2017 19:58

Another vote for L'Oréal men's anti dandruff - the black and orange bottle - revolutionised my life.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/06/2017 20:24

Can't afford Philip Kingsley. Will try the L'Oréal one.

LilaBard · 12/06/2017 20:38

Another vote for Philip Kingsley if you can ever afford it. QVC do big litre sizes from time to time that they offer over a couple of payments and if it doesn't work for you you can return it for a refund. It's the only one that worked for my brother, he previously tried most of the ones mentioned and had been using selsun on prescription which stained all his white shirt collars orange when he would sweat

paddypants13 · 12/06/2017 20:43

I used a coal tar shampoo called Capasal when my scalp was really itchy and sensitive. You can get it on prescription but it was cheaper to buy over the counter.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/06/2017 20:46

That Philip Kingsley stuff. My head isn't flakey, it's just itchy and forms scabs when I scratch it, but it doesn't have scales.

Which one would l use? It does look good..,

I've just bought some little ones on eBay to test it out. Thanks for the tip.

OP the one my brother uses is called itchy flaky scalp, it comes in a white bottle with a green band round the bottom. He was the same as you, no real flakiness but very itchy head, always scratching and hurting himself. After the first few uses he nearly returned it but decided to stick with it and now swears by it. It is expensive though, I won't pretend otherwise. Really hope it works for you.

exexpat · 12/06/2017 21:14

Try coconut oil instead of olive oil? You buy it in tubs (from the 'world food' aisles of a lot of big supermarkets etc) and it is solid at room temperature, only liquifies when you rub it between your hands, so much easier to apply than olive oil. Also smells much better. I used to apply it overnight once a week, and sleep with a towel over my pillow.

HelenMcHelen · 12/06/2017 22:31

Actually I tried coconut oil once but because it's not a liquid is even harder to apply just to the scalp. It might be fine if you want conditioner though (I don't).
I used a dropper bottle for the olive oil so managed to get it mainly on my scalp rather than all through hair.
My scalp isn't flaky but I get tiny intensely itchy spots which I scratch off.
