General Health Improvement - anyone up for joining me?

I've realised I've deprioritised my own health - mental and physical - in the last year and I need to do some things to get myself sorted. I've been trying to lose weight but it's not working, mainly because I'm also stressed, too tired, drinking too much wine, etc etc. I also get migraines and heartburn. So - I'm starting a thread on digging in to the root cause and trying to fix from there up. I'm going to try small fixes day by day rather than set myself a big goal. Today's fixes are a long walk, sunscreen and no alcohol. I'll get more into what I think the root causes might be as I go. Anyone up for joining in?

Welcome sunegg, Caglio and Misty!
Ironically my grumps have worn off as a result of something going very wrong - my work deliverable was sent to me in unusable state, so it can't go tonight, so I had a 'f* it' moment and thought whystress? So I've come to bed early and am going to sleep well and then deal with it tomorrow.
Well done on all the swimming and walking everyone! I was going to run tomorrow morning but need to go into work early now, so will have to settle for just riding my horse tomorrow night.
I'm looking at getting one of those LEAF monitors, kind of like a Fitbit but prettier - has anyone else tried one?

Oooh that's annoying about the other person not doing the work properly 😡 But glad it has given you respite from it.

I am happy as I have done the warm up routine from the DVD. The Caglets (7 and nearly 10) joined in! They then decided to do the whole DVD whereas I thought for at least the first few times I will just do the first section, I hate having to be so careful but I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and suddenly doing lots more than normal is risky. So, slow and steady wins the race however boring that is!

Also I have done the washing up again. This is actually a big deal. Which is embarrassing really. It's one of the many many things I leave for DH all the time. It's like I just opted out of normal life when I got ill, does that make sense? I avoid so many simple things because I am scared of the effect it'll have on me. I get dizzy standing so I have to be careful. But I have managed the washing up.a few times this week, which is progress. I just want to be a normal person!

JontyDoggle37 · 31/05/2017 05:36

Oh Caglio - I hope you take this in the way it's meant - I am so proud of you!! Battling both those conditions is very hard, and every step, no matter how small, is a massive triumph. Well done and long may it continue 🙏

In my own update for this morning, I'm 2lbs down at 10.11.5. Even though I'm now on the train platform headed for work to sort out the mess, I still made time for ten minutes of back exercises, a proper breakfast, made myself lunch and emptying and restacking the dishwasher. Often when things don't go well I would crack open the wine at night (I didn't) and then rush into work the next morning, throwing every other life priority to the wind, in a panic. So it's good to feel like I've managed a good balance this morning, and also stayed off the wine last night! Riding my horse tonight and poo picking his field, so that should help burn off a few calories. Have a lovely day everyone and good luck with today's goals!

Aw thank you so much jonty Thanks

Just need to maintain this progress without rushing ahead and doing too much and then crashing! My issue is that I tend to only manage a day of progress and then have a day after when I'm extra tired and depressed and lethargic.

That's awesome that you've dealt with this work setback so well and still kept to your personal targets!

Today will be busy - tutoring this morning (I am self employed now due to losing my council job through illness) then my adult DSCs are arriving throughout the day to play board games :o DH is taking DS to dermatologist soon, then I'm taking DD to a new gymnastics class later.

So if I'm going to do the workout again I need to do it this morning! I also need to clear the dumping ground table.

ThatItBe · 31/05/2017 09:37

Aw you are all doing brilliantly!
Ive kept to my calorie goal on my fitness pal, kept off the wine and biscuits.
I think I need to find some form of exercise though apart from the walking I do as my muscles are so un-toned, to say the least! I've tried so many things and never managed to keep them up.

Cagliostro · 31/05/2017 10:16

Yes same I am hoping that walking will improve my overall fitness - it should do as I am starting from pretty much zero, walking not even short distances - but I need to get my muscles trained too!

I did the first bit of the workout again this morning and put a wash on. Pupil arriving soon so I should probably get dressed!

Cagliostro · 31/05/2017 10:18

My bingo wings are awful so I need to fix my arms! Especially as by the end of the year I will be picking up a baby (who if they're anything like my youngest will be a chunky monkey). Also my legs are absolutely gross. I didn't realise how fat they were until I was trying on some shorts the other day. That was a shock!

Cagliostro · 31/05/2017 14:58

Did another thing on my self care list today - played piano for a bit. I don't make enough time for it but even my occupational therapist (when I was having treatment for my CFS) said I should try and do it as it makes me happy and calm and also it strengthens my hands!

MollyHuaCha · 31/05/2017 17:42

Another swim for me today. Also a chiropractic session - I hope that counts too?!

Everstrong · 31/05/2017 21:15

I did an hour of cardio then had chips for dinner so cross with myself.

Molly stretching definitely counts as yoga!

I'm trying to give up sugar but it's so difficult! Have you had any withdrawal when you've cut down Misty?

Looks like everyone is making great progress, even baby steps is better than where we were on Monday!

Misty9 · 31/05/2017 22:49

I think cravings for sugar are normal everstrong as it's so addictive! I haven't sustained a reduction in it yet (I like cake too much) but am definitely going to try harder. First thing to go is the daily hot choc in the evenings.

Not doing so well on the early nights though, evidently... Blush

JontyDoggle37 · 01/06/2017 08:45

Wow everyone is doing brilliantly! I read through last night, went to post and then realised it was 11.30! I didn't take a sleeping pill last night, but apart from getting woken up by the dog because he heard something, I slept really well.
Yesterday was a really good day - didn't get stressed, got the work issue resolved, rode my horse and got properly set up on the RH Team Fitness diet. I also managed to drink 2.8 litres of water!
Today I've started well on the water, 900l down already, but got a bit stressed due to a work email, being a bit late and realising I'd forgotten something for a meeting at work today, but I've done lots of errands on the train and feel quite a bit calmer now. I'm also down nearly another pound, now at 10.9.7, which is lovely! Other goals for today are to do a workout when I get home tonight, do my fingernails (did toes the other night) and, taking inspiration from Caglio, have a go on my piano. DH is out so the evening tonnyself once I get DS off to bed!

Morning all! Bad day yesterday foodwise as we had family round for game night = snacks! Although I'm just happy I managed to eat without the nausea kicking in.

Today I am super tired and sneezy. Going to mum's later for a few nights.

Cagliostro · 01/06/2017 08:54

Also I took DD to a new activity yesterday (she's switching gymnastics clubs) and the bus ride was so lovely as it's in a little village, and we had lots of time outside. Really reminded me how much better I feel when outdoors! As long as I have somewhere to sit when I need to. :o

Enjoy your piano playing Jonty! :)

MollyHuaCha · 01/06/2017 19:31

How's everyone getting on?

50 mins swimming for me today.

JontyDoggle37 · 01/06/2017 21:10

Thanks Caglio hope you got some more outside time today.
Molly well done 50 mins is a lot!
So I stayed calmer on the way into work and had a good day as a result. Got home and did a 30 minute HIIT workout and then played with my son, and now I'm just about to do my nails, do some chores and then go to bed! Oh and I've also stuck to calorie limit and drunk 3.5 litres of water! Another good day 😁

Misty9 · 02/06/2017 18:13

Well I fell asleep after kids bedtime yesterday for 2 hours which buggered up my bedtime so didn't go until midnight... but I made myself a proper dinner this evening and am drinking more wine water. Did a bit of walking today too but at dd' s glacial pace it probably doesn't count...

Cagliostro · 02/06/2017 20:50

Not such a good couple of days here. Absolutely shattered TBH. Awful night's sleep - I'm at mum's with the Caglets (DH has to stay home for work) and DD couldn't cope with the change. Ended up hanging off the single bed while comforting her so really not comfy!

It's been good mental health wise though, as we've had a nice social time (more tomorrow) and I did get a good few steps in walking round town.

Really hope DD sleeps better tonight!

JontyDoggle37 · 02/06/2017 23:06

Misty any extra movement is good
Caglio glad you can see the positive side and here's hoping for a better night tonight.
Had a bit of a crappy day work-wise, but a lovely ride on my horse tonight, and a 2 mile run this morning. I also got all my macros today for my diet (good) and then slightly exceeded them with wine and toast (not so good), but tomorrow is toddler rugby, lasagne and tiramisu to make, horse to plait ready for Sunday's competition, a garden centre visit, taking my mum to the bank, and then friends for dinner, so I'm sure to work off a bit tomorrow!!! Hope everyone has a lovely night sleep and feels refreshed in the morning.

Morning all, up by 5.30 (why can't my brain lie in at the weekend 🙄), but at least i've sorted my meal plan for today, and got the washing together. Have a long list of things to get done today and lots of running around, which often results in me getti stressed (especially as some of it involves my elderly mother who can wind me up like nothing else!), so today my goal is to smile, keep moving and stay calm. I had a pretty good nights sleep too. Weigh in this morning was horrible (because I've started drinking a lot more water my weight is actually going up for a few days but it's hard to watch even though I know that's what will happen!). I'm also very achy from the last two days so going to do some stretches and my back exercises in a minute
Have a lovely day all!

OP posts:
MollyHuaCha · 03/06/2017 08:56

Morning all. You are an early riser Jonty! Are you sure you are getting enough sleep?

I swam for 50 mins yesterday. Today I'll be by myself for most of the day. I have a list of small things that need to be done - housework etc. It will be nice to cross these off my 'to do' list Grin

JontyDoggle37 · 04/06/2017 20:32

Molly hope you got your list done!
Today has been very good for my mental and physical health. Took horse to a dressage competition today - got a win and a fourth. Getting to that win meant changing my mindset, increasing my self-confidence to boost his. It was emotional, to say the least. Then got home and took DS swimming, so I'm exhausted! Celebrating with a couple of glasses of wine, back on the diet tomorrow!😁

OP posts:
MollyHuaCha · 04/06/2017 20:38

StarCongratulations on your dressage success! Hope you got a couple of nice medals to hang up in your kitchen.

Today I went for a walk in the park. That's all really for me...

JontyDoggle37 · 05/06/2017 18:17

Molly walks in the park are a double whammy - mental and physical health benefits!
I did a 2 mile run this morning, and I've got to exercise horse tonight. I've stuck religiously to diet today, got my balance a bit wrong though because I'm starving and I'm not usually if I put the right meals together - do better tomorrow. Work was quite stressful this afternoon and a colleague also made a joke about my abilities on something I feel very unconfident in, which made me quite teary. I pulled him up on it and he is horrified, meant it as a genuine joke, and no reflection on my actual abilities, probably if I was confident I would have just told him to sling his hook there and then.
Anyway, I'm doinggg a bit better with my week planning (sat here setting up the online shopping order for the weekend already!) which is something I wanted to improve. And tomorrow is another day. Hope it's been a good one all!
