Can you get calpol and neurofen (or equivelant) on prescription?

Dd fractured her wrist today and I was told she needs this every 4 hours for week.

Just wondered if I could get it from doctors as this will cost a lot.

princessmel greenstick is given that name as the bones are soft and bend (like a young branch) so not broken as such. My dd had this in her forearm and was out in open (backslab I think its called) plaster for 2 weeks for support.

either minor ailments or care at the chemist shceme !

Mine give paracetamol on prescription without seeing the child as long as its the occasional bottle. The will give ibruphen if you have had it before but the dosage from the doc is a lot less than on the bottle.

I would get back there by phone or in person and sort it out

Spoke to 3 pharmacies and all said no. The 3rd said that the scheme doesn't opperate in this area

I'm going to have to ring the surgery again and speak to that receptionist.

Rang the surgery and they are getting a doctor to ring me. They don't know when that will be though as she's busy.

I could have booked an appointment to go in but don't think I need to see her. And I don't think I can face sitting in waiting room for an hour at tea time. The hospital said that I should tell her that the peadiatric nurse said that she would be allowed a prescription.

I wish I'd just been offered one at the hospital. The doctor did ask if I had some at home and I said 'yes'. Its my fault really.

What a shame. Good luck talking to the receptionist, I find mine at GPs, are very unhelpful.

Dr just rang. She's leaving a prescription for me at the desk

Said they don't give prescriptions normally for 'in case they get a temp etc' reasons but in cases like this, they do.

She also said 4 times a day, alternanting between calpol and neurofen, rather than 4 hourly, for a few days then see how she goes.

Poor dd fell over in the garden. She's not able to use that arm to stop herself when she falls. Poor thing.

Thanks for everyones help.

love the snowy picture - so cute, hope she is better soon.

Why can't she use that arm? My dd has limited mobility in one arm, it was the other she had a greenstick fracture in beacuse she used it to stop her falling. She had 2 plastered arms in 2 years, I was waiting fo SS to get in touch! Long story, not for mn.

I would second the not giving it so often. Both of my DS's have had ops, and I've been told to give the max dosage of Calpol and Nurofen for a week or so. Neither have actually needed any painkillers after we've left the hospital. Don't get me wrong, if they need it, I will give it at the drop of a hat, but I don't want to dose them up for days on end if there is no need.

I've also learnt the hard way from the 'have you got some Calpol at home'......

DS2 throws up Calpol, so they don't prescribe us the cheap version for him, we get the Calpol 6yrs+ with the actual dosage for an 8mth old worked out. Maybe worth saying you struggle to get medicine down your DD? The quantity of the 6+ version you have to give is less to get the same amount of paracetamol.

Oh dear wotzsaname

She is just not using it as much as it hurts I think. Its just sort of hanging. She can move it but isn't like normal.

Glad you like the pics.
