Found breast lump, pea-sized, saw GP, been referred to breast clinic.
What happens there?
Scared cos thinking it could be cancer.
Anyone else been in this position? Got words of advice?

Thanks "Major" and sorry you had doubts too. I have booked an appointment for 2 -3 weeks time to see my Gp who can hopefully go through my notes. It is the soreness near my armpit, which is not where the lump is that is of concern to me.

"green" thanks for that advice. I was so shell shocked by the whole thing yesterday that I did not express my concern. Just sat there really! The lady who was going to do the mammogram was lovely and I am 42 so old enough for one but they changed my mind to do the ultrasound only. Again the person doing the ultrasound was lovely. Sadly the nurse who did the exam and explaining was not of a reassuring kind and would not be someone who would value me calling up to check by her manner. She did not appreciate me asking what the lump was. I am obviously very relieved nothing was seen on the ultrasound scan but as I have the pain there to remind me it is a nagging doubt.

Summer I hope you get the reassurance you need from your GP. It is very, very bad luck that you had an unsympathetic nurse.

It might be an idea to bring another adult with you to your appointment because when we are frightened we're liable to miss a lot of what we're being told, and, as you say, we're also too shell shocked to ask questions.

MajorClanger123 · 25/05/2017 12:57

One thing I did summer was to telephone the clinic and ask them to send a copy of my clinic notes directly to my home address. It took them some time to do it, but once it finally arrived it addressed my concerns that (a) the registrar hadn't even felt the lump I was worrying about (she had and she stated its exact position on my breast in her notes) and (b) that the ultrasound hadn't scanned me fully (they had).

It might really help you to have a copy of those notes so that when you feel worried or anxious, you can look back over them.

Problem with breast clinic is - we're soooo relieved to hear all is ok, that we then forget to ask / push for important information eg what is the lump, will the pain go away etc.

user this thread might provide some reassurance - in as much as it seems that there's quite a few of us ladies who have ongoing breast pain but consistently no causes found. Hormones have a lot to answer for!

Hi, had my appointment today. Apparently I have calcified scar tissue. They aren't too worried but want me back in eight weeks just to double check and will then discharge me.
I got there at half eight this morning for a nine o'clock appointment. By ten I had had mammograms an ultrasound and seen the radiology consultant who told me I had nothing to worry about, explained the scar tissue and told me the breast consultant would probably ask me back due to age etc. Which is what happened. Very impressed. Got a bit wobbly, but they pointed out that if they had any real concerns they'd have be back in a lot quicker than eight weeks. They were fabulous.
Hope everyone else is doing well and Thank you for your support.

Hi all, I had my appointment last week - it wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be and be staff were lovely. When I went in for my original assessment the Dr thought it was a cyst and made me have a ultrasound scan to confirm. She said they will drain? It or whatever to stop the pain after too.
The scan didn't pick up anything though so turns out it's not a cyst. My Dr doesn't know what it is now but because she could clearly feel it, she did a needle biopsy for completeness as she put it. I get the results tomorrow.
Even though I haven't got answers yet, I feel more calmer on the matter. From reading other people's experiences, it seems a lot with the same issue get sent home if the ultra sound shows nothing so I'm very glad my doctor took that extra step to ensure nothing's wrong. I will let you know what they say.
Hope everyone else is feeling better after their wait.

Wishing you all the best Reero and glad to hear you're feeling calmer.

SummerRains · 08/06/2017 00:36

Great to hear that Reero - how were the results?
I was told the same as you except sawno dr and no biopsy.
