DS (2) goes to nursery 2 mornings a week. They have had chicken pox going round for the past 2-3 wks.

Over the last few days DS has become full of cold but generally fine in himself, went to nursery today.

About an hour ago he did the most impressive projectile vomit I've ever seen (unfortunately, all over me, the sofa and cream rug. If he'd waited 5 mins he would have been in the bath and we could have contained it ) -it came from nowhere and hes fine now. Hes gone to bed and is chatting happily to himself.

My only concern is we're going away for Easter -if this is the pox it will happen sooner rather than later won't it? I mean, if these symptoms are the start Chicken Pox the contagious bit will be in the next day or two I hope.

50p says it is.

BettySpaghetti · 13/03/2007 19:39

any advances on 50p?

is it usual to vomit with cp though betty?

BettySpaghetti · 13/03/2007 19:58

I don't know furball, thats what I'm wondering. You hear that they can feel under the weather, mild flu-like symptoms, temp etc and I wondered whether vomiting is a common one?

I know one of the girls in his group threw up last week and is off this week (I'm presuming with chicken pox but I guess it could just be a bug)

jalopy · 13/03/2007 21:08

Bet you he doesn't get it!

BettySpaghetti · 13/03/2007 21:22

Lets hope so jalopy (at least not for 6 wks or so)

Its not that I don't want him to get it, I would rather he got it out of the way (speaking as someone who didn't get it until they were 19 -not nice!).

Its just not knowing if its going to mess up our plans of going away for Easter.

Well...I'm still none the wiser really.

DS has woken up with one blistery spot on his neck - no rash, no other spots. Can you have CP with only one spot?

OP posts:
becklespeckle · 14/03/2007 10:14

my DS2 started out a couple of weeks ago with just one blister behind his ear, it took 12 hours or so before he had enough to convince us it was Chicken Pox! Upset stomach is quite usual in the run up to Chicken Pox too so that could be why he vomitted. With my DSs it took about a week from first spots to them being crusty and therefore no longer contagious (DS1 back to school tomorrow...)

becklespeckle · 14/03/2007 10:16

also, spots tend to start behind the ears and on the neck and then spread to the torso and eventually the arms and legs so is sounds like his spot is in about the right place!

BettySpaghetti · 14/03/2007 10:18

thanks becklespeckle -I am convinced that the vomiting is part of it too but netdoctor etc don't mention it.

I'll prepare myself for a weeks solitary confinement then!

becklespeckle · 14/03/2007 10:34

ah bless, at least it will be over with! Mind you, we have had a busier social life than usual while DSs have had it, when I told my friends they were infectious we had quite a few visitors who wanted their children to catch it too!
don't see why vomitting won't be part of it, lots of people throw up with an upset tummy, esp if they have a temperature too.
(oh, and sodium bicarbonate in the bath is good when the blisters are itchy, as many times as they need it. and calamine lotion in the bath once they crusty if they are irritating. also gave DS1 calpol, covered the label and told him it was special medicine to stop the itching - that worked too!)
good luck! x

Furball · 14/03/2007 10:52

piriton is good too for cp!

fryalot · 14/03/2007 10:55

don't give piriton until all the spots are out, though....it stops them from coming out and you are quarantined for longer.

(where do I collect my winnings from?)

BettySpaghetti · 14/03/2007 11:05

Here you go Squonk, well done (but I want it back if he doesn't come out in more spots than the one! )

fryalot · 14/03/2007 11:07

lol. Seriously, having had two small children who got it ONE AFTER THE OTHER..... you have my every sympathy

BettySpaghetti · 14/03/2007 11:09

One after the other would be bad, talk about prolonging the agony! Bet you were climbing the walls by the time you were all allowed out again?!

I'm just hoping he has it like his sister did when she just turned 1 -she only had 6-8 spots and was OK.

changing the subject betty - did you go away for your birthday in the end?

Beauregard · 14/03/2007 12:31

Hi Betty
As you know my dd1 is recovering from cp and she vomited several times when she first developed it,she also only started with a coupl eof spots but about 5 days after she was well and truly covered.
Hope your ds doesn't feel too poorly with it.

Beauregard · 14/03/2007 12:32

and hi to furball

Furball · 14/03/2007 13:11

hi pfnm - surely it must be time to start thinking about another meet up? say for april time? - I'll start a thread!

BettySpaghetti · 14/03/2007 14:02

Hi pfnm, we might be waiting a few more days for the spots then. Poor kid thinks I've lost my marbles -I keep lifting up his top inspecting his back and chest for spots but still only the one.

furball -yes we ended up going to Cirencester in the end. Somewhere not too far away (first night away leaving IL's in charge). Also we went in the Beetle so didn't want to go too far as its not as fast (or heated ) as these new fangled modern cars!!

We had a great time, stayed in a lovely, friendly hotel, wandered around town stopping for coffee, meals, drinks whenever we wanted to and not having to find somewhere childfriendly. Trouble is you end up going into shops you wouldn't normally go into and spend money you wouldn't normally spend (eg. we went into a gallery and bought an original print that cost pounds).

As a result though March is officially Economy Drive Month !

Furball · 14/03/2007 14:06

Glad you had a good time. I went there for my big one but there were 6 girls so left dh at home with ds! We spent the sunday at Le Spa and I spent the day in a dressing gown which I can't recall doing at least since ds was born.

becklespeckle · 15/03/2007 12:43

Hows DS doing Bettyspaghetti? any more spots?!

BettySpaghetti · 15/03/2007 13:13

Hi becklespeckle, thanks for thinking of us.

DS woke up this morning with 3-4 very definite blisters on his chest and, as the days gone on, I can see several red spots and marks that look like they will come up soon.

He seems OK in himself though, if a little tetchy at times (but that might just be the 2 yr old thing!).

At least it looks as though we'll be fine for our holiday over easter.
