DS (5) - sick every half an hour since Tuesday 6pm. When should I worry?

I am worried already of course but when should I REALLY worry?

He can't even keep water down. Saw doc this morning after he was vomiting green bile all night (sorry, TMI I know) and she said he should sip Dioralyte.

He's been sick all day again, every half an hour roughly. Can't even keep water down.

Doc did mention paediatric A&E if it persists but after how long should I think about A&E do you think?

I was thinking if he's sick all night again tonight, I will take him. Or, dare I say it on here, am I over-reacting? Don't say I am or I will cry .

that's a long time kbear . poor him & poor you. if he isn't keeping water/diarolyte down i'd be thinking a&e tonight. hope he's better soon.

You're not over-reacting but try not to panic. If the Gp had been concerned dhe would have sent him straight to A&E there and then. Apparently flat cola is good when children are sick.

I think that's a long time to be chucking up every 30 mins for a small child Kbear, poor you and poor him.
If he is not even keeping Dioralyte down, I would seriously think about either Grabadoc or Paed A & E just around 8pm when the shifts change.
We took a poorly ds to QMS at 7.50pm one evening and they had cleared the ward for the new shift so we were seen at once.

I'm at work, he's at home with DH. I feel like worst mum in the world for coming to work (and feel like shit having not slept for two nights!) but DH is a parent too right and I must stop being a control freak!

You think A&E now really?

I would be worried tbh, 48 hours is a long time imo. - take him to A&E.

Kbear, you're not over-reacting. This seems too long to me, especially since he is unable to hold water down. Contact surgery. If no luck, take him to A & E.

Hi Kbear, sorry to hear ds is poorly. I agree with themildmanneredjanitor. If you don't take him you'll will just be sat worrying.

Just called DH again. DS still being sick regularly but seems to be keeping more down than he's bringing up. He said he had half a glass of water over a period of about an hour and brought up about a tablespoon full when he was sick.

He also said DS was better "in himself" and was quite chirpy at times and watched a bit of tv.

It is so hard to know what to do. I just can't bear the thought of another night of it - for DS or me!

DH is a worse over-reactor than me so I trust him when he says he thinks he is slowly improving this afternoon.

I will be home at 6.30 so will check him out then and decide what to do.

I just thought vomiting bugs usually last 12-24 hours, but I guess it's different in different people.

thanks - his lips were dry this morning and he was really thirsty but I was trying to get him to sip not guzzle!

Sucking ice cubes is meant to be good.

Yeah, doc told me that, he's had a couple today.

Strange that doc also said get him an ice-cream. I thought NOOOOOOO, not dairy. Does ice cream have magical powers? - I assumed it would make him more sick!

Will he drink dioralyte? If not, add a tiny amount of salt and sugar to his water. This will make him feel better too.

I will also add the sugar and a pinch of salt to his water. DH said Dioralyte is making DS shudder!

Dioralyte is foul. It's kind of greasy. Hot sugared water is good though. Stops you feeling wobbly.
