DS (5) - sick every half an hour since Tuesday 6pm. When should I worry?

I am worried already of course but when should I REALLY worry?

He can't even keep water down. Saw doc this morning after he was vomiting green bile all night (sorry, TMI I know) and she said he should sip Dioralyte.

He's been sick all day again, every half an hour roughly. Can't even keep water down.

Doc did mention paediatric A&E if it persists but after how long should I think about A&E do you think?

I was thinking if he's sick all night again tonight, I will take him. Or, dare I say it on here, am I over-reacting? Don't say I am or I will cry .

Been home since 6.30. DS is quite lively. His cheeks are aglow and he feels quite hot to touch but has no high temp. DH says he's been drinking quite well. He was last sick at 5pm and then it wasn't very much considering he'd drunk quite a lot. So it seems he is on the mend. (fingers crossed).

Thanks for all your tips and well wishes gang! I had a "someone I know thinks..." convo with my boss this afternoon about the A&E debate!! Don't often MN at work but needs must today! tee hee

OK - this has got to stop - I'm hooked! I really should have rung you to see if my gs was ok, but I chose to check your thread instead!

Kbear · 08/03/2007 20:42

Do you think the time has come when finally me and you don't have to ring each other 20 times a day and still never run out of conversation?

Twenty years I've given you, twenty years.....

Can I just say that apparently (according to my A&E doc DH) when little ones get sicky bugs they can seem to be on the mend then go downhill because of a thing called ketosis. When they're not eating, their bodies turn to their fat stores for energy and the process of converting fat to energy makes them nauseous so they vomit (at least I think that's how he explained it). It's a vicious circle and usually the easiest way to break it, if they can't keep anything down, is a few hours on IV fluids.

It happened to our eldest DD when she was 2, and DH didn't spot it , though in his defence he was still pretty junior... A colleague suggested it, a light went on in his head, DD spent a night on a drip and the next day was 100% back to normal, it was almost freaky.

Sorry for the lecture, I'm not saying your son has developed ketosis, I just thought it might be useful to someone. I hope he's feeling better now

That is interesting frenchleave - will bear in mind. He has had an eighth of a slice of bread tonight and some lemonade. So far so good! Not been sick since 5pm.

PLEASE go to A&E NOW - I have just come home from hospital where my 7 month old son is recovering from a twisted intestine. It started last Thursday, I saw a GP on Friday who put him on antibiotics. He continued to vomit bile and became ever more lethargic. Rang emergency doc on Sat "Give the drugs a chance to work". Rang again at 7am Sunday and insisted on seeing someone.Had 20 min consultation with a GP who said that he was not overly concerned as the baby wasn't dehydrated. 2 hours later we were in A&E, baby so dehydrated his veins were collapsing. Emergency surgery at 2am to save his life. We were lucky. I have come on mumsnet specifically to post a message about this as I don't want any other families to go through what we have this week. Three Drs ignored what I was saying - please don't wait any longer if your baby is vomiting bile.

He wasn't sick after 6pm last night. Had a good night's sleep and today is weak but on the road to recovery!
