should I vaccinate my child or not?

I am currently 17+2 weeks pregant so I have a little while before I decide. But it's something me and my partner have argued about on numerous occasions. To this date I have never had any vaccinations whatsoever. Despite no one believing me throughout my whole life I haven't. I had the vitamin K shot when I was born but that was it. Never anything more. That's just how my mum brought me and my siblings up as her mother had brought her and her siblings up. And I think her mother before that. My partner on the other hand has had most of his childhood vaccinations just like all of his siblings and all the other children in his family. I would have liked to have carried on the no vaccination tradition if you like. But he strongly wants our child to have them all. And seeing as it is both of our choices it's a subject that we've rowed about in the past. Can anyone let me know their views on whether vaccinations should be administered of not?

Yes, you should vaccinate. The reason you and your family have avoided some of these illnesses is because most other people were vaccinated. They are not fluffy childhood illnesses; they have potentially devastating long-term consequences. All the science that is replicable and peer-reviewed shows that vaccination is safe and that there is no evidence to support any claim that vaccination has adverse effects.

Orangebird69 · 17/03/2017 10:31

Biscuit the children you see have coughs and colds op. Not fucking polio, meningitis, rubella, whooping cough etc.

ZilphasHatpin · 17/03/2017 10:31

but my faith in that we will be all kept safe is actually stronger than my faith in some bozo with a syringe in a lab injecting mice?

Perhaps the bozo with the syringe is your gods way of keeping you safe.

Sabistick · 17/03/2017 10:32

Vaccinate. I believe in herd immunity, if its not going to harm me or my child ,by being vaccinated, then do it for others with compromised immune systems. Its a no brainer.
Maybe in your family people were immune naturally , but thats not say they weren't carriers.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/03/2017 10:34

Yes please do keep alive your family tradition of wilful ignorance Hmm

charlestrenet · 17/03/2017 10:34

You haven't avoided getting these diseases because your body is strong. You have avoided getting them because you are lucky enough to live in a country where there is a vaccination programme and so you have been protected by herd immunity.

In other countries, children still die of these diseases, just as they did in the UK before we took steps to prevent their spread.

You're stupid to even be considering not vaccinating. If you decide not to vaccinate please don't allow your children in contact with anyone else's child please. Selfish.

So ShuttyTown, children who can't be vaccinated should be kept away from other children? Is that what you are saying?

Have you ever wondered that the fact you have not picked up these diseases is because of herd immunity? Maybe look it up.

Rainbowqueeen · 17/03/2017 10:35

I would not hesitate to vaccinate my child. If you are unsure please speak to a professional about it

troodiedoo · 17/03/2017 10:35

I'm out. There are other Web forums where you'll get more support for your quackery.

GalaxyDefender2012 · 17/03/2017 10:37

Okay maybe tradition is the wrong word to use. I meant the fact that no one in my family was vaccinated and that I would have liked to have carried that on. What's to be will be. And I believe that no amount of vaccinations will prevent what life has planned for you. My second cousin did have his vaccines but STILL got meningitis? So is it really worth it? i believe in medical science to a certain extent..and am truly grateful that in times of need there are people and places to go to that can help. But vaccines are one of those grey areas that I am not sure about. Because how can you treat a disease that isn't there?

YOu are blessed to live in a country with free education and health care. If you want to be sick and thick that is your choice but no one here will ever understand why the fuck you would want that for your baby.

Please keep away from me and mine 😡

if I'm honest I don't agree with pumping man made stuff into the body

So when your children are suffering with these awful diseases that you could have helped prevent, you'll be turning down the medicine at that stage too will you?

ZilphasHatpin · 17/03/2017 10:40

And I believe that no amount of vaccinations will prevent what life has planned for you.

Are you really this stupid?? That's like saying no amount of seat belts wil stop you flying through the windscreen if that's what life has planned for you. Engage your fucking brain.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/03/2017 10:40

I don't think you really understand science at all.

Reow · 17/03/2017 10:41

What's to be will be. And I believe that no amount of vaccinations will prevent what life has planned for you

Oh my god. I pity your child and very much hope they do not contract a fatal or debilitating illness.

ZilphasHatpin · 17/03/2017 10:41

Because how can you treat a disease that isn't there?

Is that the same as asking how do you cure stupid that doesn't know it's stupid?

Seeline · 17/03/2017 10:42

But vaccines are one of those grey areas that I am not sure about. Because how can you treat a disease that isn't there?

You're not treating the disease - you're preventing it in the first place. That's why it isn't there!!!

Please speak to a GP who can explain all this very simply for you. Luck in previous generations is no justifiable reason for exposing your tiny newborns to these awful diseases.

Jackiebrambles · 17/03/2017 10:42

Good grief.

Your child could get run over by a bus. But what you will do is equip them with road safety knowledge to do all you can to prevent that from happening. Or will simple faith keep them safe whilst they play in the road?

There are different types of meningitis by the way. Perhaps your family member wasn't vaccinated against the type he got.

charlestrenet · 17/03/2017 10:43

It isn't a grey area. The spread of communicable disease is prevented by vaccination. Which you obviously realise in that you would vaccinate your children against yellow fever if they were to go to an area where it is rife. Exactly the same principles apply with other diseases - you just don't think of them in the same way because you live in a country where vaccination has been successful in largely removing the threat posed by them.

MrsDoylesladder · 17/03/2017 10:43

Vaccinate - otherwise you undermine herd immunity and put people like me directly at risk. I am immune compromised. I could die, if I get measles because I never had it as a kid. This is a community issue not some personal choice bollocks.

Re your second cousin - the meningitis vaccine is very new so the chances are they weren't vaccinated for that particular illness.

Please don't be fucking stupid. You and your family have not caught any serious illness despite being vaccinated because the rest of us are smart enough to vaccinate so you are piggybacking on our herd immunity. If everyone was as stupid as your family, the very diseases you are dismissing vaccinating against would be rife.
