Hey everyone.Just thouight I'd share this with you. DS2 has these pesky warty disgusting things under his arm. I am blitzing them with Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream every night (my wonder cream)and they are going!!Hurray. Like everyone else my GP said leave them alone but they have been hanging around far too long.

I live in Lancashire, do you know of any other trials?

janinlondon · 11/11/2004 16:35

Loobyloo2 - sorry- the only trials I know of in the UK have been at Kings. They used 10% solution of potassium hydroxide applied using a cotton bud twice a day. There is a clinical trial reported in the medical literature (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10383783&dopt=Abstract) but King's have not yet published. In the trial we helped with, they were trying out weaker 5% and 2.5% solutions. I am guessing that the results will not be as good as with 10% though. I have no idea how hard it is to get hold of potassium hydroxide from a chemist, but you might ask your doctor? The other thing that does seem to work is duct tape - with a lower success rate than the HP but without needing prescriptions etc. Tiny pieces of duct tape are placed over each spot and left on basically as long as the child will tolerate (if they fall off in the night you just replace them). Remove them and clean the area every few days or so. According to our dermatologist most people will work up an allergic reaction to the tape and start to fight the virus. But I know you have ezcema complications so this may not be suitable for you. I would certainly ask your GP for a referral to the local hospital dermatology dept. They may be prepared to treat molluscum despite what GPs seem to think.

Thanks for the advice Jan, I will certainly take them both back to the docs. I might try the duct tape on the older one as she doesnt have ezcema, but the younger one I might have to be more careful. I am trying tea tree to see if that will help, its just takes so long as there is so many of them all over their bodies. I will go to the chemists tomorrow and see if they know how I can get hold of some pottasium I am willing to try any thing.

There have been reports of Calc Carb 30c homeopathic remedy clears molluscum!

MrsMiaWallace · 11/11/2004 22:35

what is molluscum? dd has had a bunch of small spot on her cheek now for over a month, have tiny heads on them, have not got better nor worse?anyone know what this could be?

loobyloo2 · 11/11/2004 22:46

Molluscum contagiosum is a harmless virus of the skin, but the spots can become itchy and if on the face, as they get bigger can become unsightly.
If you vistit www.molluscumcontagiosum.co.uk it does give a picture which may help with the diagnosis. Also a visit to the docs may be advised, but if it is this, they tell you to leave them alone and should go away on there own when the childs immunity has built up, but my eldest dd has had them for 2 years now.

MrsMiaWallace · 11/11/2004 22:51

thanks, have tried dry skin creams or no cream and neither made a difference. it doesnt seem to bother her but it doesnt look nice and recently also became really red, like she was teething again?

loobyloo2 · 12/11/2004 16:41

Bought some duct tape today and trying it on dd1 over the weekend, as did'nt want to try it out whilst at school, see how it goes, then Ive got some calc carb for dd2 and trying her with that. I am determined to beat this thing. Thanks for the advice so far and if anyone knows of any more ideas or something that does work then please let me know.

I know this thread is a bit old now but I came across it whilst looking for any remidies for Moliscum.
My 8 year old daughter has had this condition for over 12 monthes with the dr just saying it will go away, I have tried silver, creams everything I could then a week ago after another round of "everybody thinks Im ugly because I have this Moliscum" I came across some wart off that I had in the cupboard for my son, and I remembered that the doctor said they can be burnt off with dry ice, this stuff was the same as dry ice, so I give it a go, about an hour after putting the stuff on the lumps had all dried out, she had about 30 spots on her upper body, by the next day we were down to about 20, I have put it on every 3 days, and she only has about 5 spots left now, with no new ones popping up. Hope this may help some desperate mums.

blackandwhitecat · 17/02/2007 21:22

Both dds had this. Dd1 managed to get rid of hers in a couple of months or less dd2's lasted longer (maybe 6 months). I tried Elizabeth ARden cream but tbh I don't think it made any difference. Total waste of money. Just had to wait and they went. Advised not to do anything else with them for fear of causing scarring. All gone now though dd2 does have some dry skin/excema where she had hers.
