Hi everyone. Hope some can can help. I've had some brown discharge recently and gp took blood. CA125 result came back at 53. I'm due pelvic scan next week. So scared I may have ovarian cancer. Has anyone had similar experience. Would be grateful for anything as don't want to talk to family about this yet. My DD only 13. Xxx

@gillmoregirl
Went back for my results today and got the all clear, cysts one side and benign somethings the other!
Consultant said many people had checked results (new protocols I guess to double/triple check) and there was nothing to worry about.
My notes will be written up showing where and what they found, to use against any future scans.
He advised that I 'map' myself too so I know what is there and don't worry if I find same ones again!
He said to go back to GP if (a) existing lumps & bumps start to give me trouble or (b) I find anything new or (c) and concerns at all. GP can then get me back to Hospital clinic.
And then he said "you're completely discharged from my clinic!"
Pheweeeeeeeee!!
And then I did same as you - I was so relieved that I legged it and promptly forgot about asking if any correlation with ca125.

Any news on getting your pesky cyst out?

@blackdoglet I am so happy to hear your news it's not a nice place to be. No I haven't heard anything more my surgery but to be honest I'm heading to Chelsea flower show next week so was hoping I would not be called before that. Did you just get your results today I'm sure you're so relieved :- get yourself a big glass of wine and relax you deserve it as you've been through the wringer emotionally. It's so good to get the all clear that u run before they change their mind. Lol. So so happy for you. You can rest easy tonight. ❤🎉🎉

@blackdoglet Forgot to say thank you. It's been nice having someone to talk to as I don't like to share my worries with my family. I'm supposed to be the strong one !!🙄

Well got home yesterday from lovey trip to London. Letter to day I'm to attend hospital on 7 June to get ovary and Fallopian tube removed. Shocked to say the least. I thought it would be cyst and if necessary ovary. Tried to call hospital bit due to bank holiday won't get any info to Tuesday. Have to say I'm bit threw by it being formalised. Didn't expect removal of cyst and tube as never discussed. 🙄

Thymeout · 27/05/2018 10:09

There's a theory that ov ca starts in the fallopian tube and spreads from there. So if they're taking the ovary, it makes sense to take the tube as well. It's not much good on its own without an ovary, so you don't need it.

Btw, I had a 22 cm ovarian tumour and a Ca 125 of 130. The tumour was a Borderline, 'clinically benign' and 'cured by surgery' and my surgeon wasn't interested in my Ca 125 score. He said it was caused by the tumour rubbing against other organs. The test is more useful during treatment, when a rise or fall gives some indication of whether chemo is working or if there's a recurrence after remission. I'm being monitored and it's been 9-ish for the last 4 years.

I think in your position I'd be pleased that they're being thorough. Cysts tend to come back and it shouldn't make that much difference to your recovery. Tho' a bit of a shock, I agree.

Hope it all goes well for you!

@Thymeout. Thanks. It does make sense I guess I just thought they would be removing cyst as precaution as during trans vaginal scans the doctor was unconcerned about cyst and agreed to wait and see. Due to my ca125 raising from 53 to 58 the consultant agreed to remove cyst saying this was only way to be 100 per cent sure. I'm bit nervous bout surgery but better to get it out and whatever else needs to go to. Hate talking about my worries at home cause I'm trying to play it down with hubby and daughter so I appreciate this forum to vent. 🙄

gillmoregirl · 27/05/2018 17:13

@Thymeout. Did you have ovary removed with your cyst. 22cm is very big. How are you doing now?

Thymeout · 27/05/2018 18:31

Yes - I had a hysterectomy and both ovaries and tubes, but I'm post-menopausal and my local hospital was v pessimistic. Fortunately they referred me to St Thomas' for the op. My consultant said he thought it was OK - nearly fell off my chair - but he wanted to take everything I no longer needed, just in case there was some hidden malignancy.

Yes - it was ginormous. 2 kilos. How I didn't notice is still a mystery to me. I'm quite slim and was still wearing the same size jeans. I thought my pregnant profile was what happened when you gave up pulling in your tummy muscles.

I'm fine. Just being monitored for 4? 5? years. It's bad luck having to have surgery, but it could be a day case? and, if it were me, 'watch and wait' would be 'watch and worry'.

gillmoregirl · 27/05/2018 19:09

@Thymeout. So glad to hear u r doing well. Thank you for your advice. I generally want to stick my head in the sand but whatever is there needs to go rather than wait. I agree. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend. Thanks
