sdoc2016 · 11/01/2017 17:59

Hi everyone. Hope some can can help. I've had some brown discharge recently and gp took blood. CA125 result came back at 53. I'm due pelvic scan next week. So scared I may have ovarian cancer. Has anyone had similar experience. Would be grateful for anything as don't want to talk to family about this yet. My DD only 13. Xxx

Hi everyone. Just thot is update u all. Scan showed 6cm cyst with slight septum. Referred to gynae now. Getting more anxious now. Although on upside nothing else seen just this one cyst with septum. Anyone heard or had this

Just came on here to see how you got on! I hadn't heard of the term"septum" so a quick Google showed me this:

Simple cysts are rarely malignant, especially if they are small. Next, if it is described as being complex, is there language which further describes what the complexity is? If it is complex because it has a "septum," which is only a separation between several parts of a cyst, it is less likely to be malignant or cancerous.

So, whilst I have NO medical knowledge (apart from Dr Google!), I think you'll be fine. Glad they're taking care of you and referring to gynae who will most certainly put you right.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry. You are doing everything right and hopefully you'll soon get positive answers.

sdoc2016 · 16/01/2017 19:21

@blackdoglet. You rockstar for taking time to research for me. I hope u r right but I'm scared due to combo of raised ca125 level. Brown discharge and now this cyst. Just cross with myself that I didn't realise sooner. 6cm is one hell of a size. I put belly down to move of pringles and wine. Lol. Thursday will hopefully tell more as sonographer only said her advice would be referral to gynae. Just nervous waiting but will keep u updated. Thanks. Star

@sdoc2016 - how are you doing and how did you get on Thursday?

sdoc2016 · 23/01/2017 14:47

@blackdoglet. You were right. Seen gynae consultant who did internal scan. Cyst reduced to 4cm and he didn't see septum. Said cyst had cloudy appearance which could indicate endometrioma or that it had bled. He wasn't concerned that it was suspicious. An internal showed endometriosis (which would explain secondary infertility). Back in 4 months to review. He confirmed that raised ca125 was likely due to cyst and said my GP should not have done this blood test as it's unreliable in pre menopausal woman although I am glad she did as although it made me worry it also put me on fast track to be seen. Thank you for your support and calming advice. I hope u are doing ok. ❤️

Great news FlowersWine

Cedilla · 25/01/2017 11:40

Just seen this. Glad you've had a result and are feeling reassured OP. I know you still have a cyst but it's a good outcome given what you were worried about. Onwards and upwards!

realhousewifey · 13/04/2018 23:47

Update: review 3 weeks ago. Cyst slightly smaller. Recommendation to wait and watch Not worried about appearance of cyst. - ca135blood taken again. In between times found lump on breast. Now fourth referral to breast clinic but was hoping result same as other three times .... cyst. Phoned gynae to check ca125 result. Two days later consultant called to say ca125 raisedfrom 53 to 58. Reconnect keyhole to remove ovary and cyst as she said although cyst not appearing suspicious the tumour market showed something was going on. Breast appt given next day for next Thursday. So much going on my head is spinning. Need answers but don't even know what questions to ask at either clinic. This is my 5th investigation between ovary and breast. Either I'm dodging the bullet or something not being picked up.

Hello OP.
You might find it useful to take a look at the cancer support thread:

Unfortunately there are lots of people with experience on this one.

blackdoglet · 14/04/2018 15:01

Hi @sdoc2016 Sorry to hear this is all raising is ugly head again. Your ca-125 is still low (I know it's outside the 'norm' but still) and to have gone up by such a small number is probably nothing to worry about. When I had a breast cyst, I had some other CA blood tests because my 125 was always high. They all came back normal - I wonder whether you can have some other marker tests? Just to put your mind at rest.

I've just had surgery for something else (unrelated) and during all the pre-op consultations, the Drs dismissed the CA-125 high results, saying that a steady high result (mine varies between 55-60) was nothing to be concerned about. The baseline is just higher than normal. If it went into the hundreds or if it rose steadily each time, they might look again. But after numerous scans, internal and external including u/S, MRI and CT, we can only conclude it is just "me".

Hopefully you are the same ThanksThanks

realhousewifey · 14/04/2018 19:14

Thanks twitterqueen and blackdoglet. I'm trying to console myself with small rise in just under a year. At review three weeks ago dr was not concerned at all by cyst or marker level but after me following up result consultant called me back and we agreed removal. It even sure if it's entire ovary but at this point don't even care. As I keep reading it's waiting that's the worst and worry. My mum had ovary removed years ago due to cyst but she's no other info about her surgery. Just hoping I have high baseline or that I have endo as was originally suggested. Gonna get glass of wine and enjoy bgt and try not to think about it. Rereading all your supportive advice months ago not only reminded me about chronology of events but gave me comfort last night. Thanks. Smile

realhousewifey · 14/04/2018 19:24

Twitter queen. Briefly checked out your suggestion. I hope that you are keeping well. I realise I shouldn't borrow trouble when so many of you are dealing with your own troubles. I will as about more tests as suggested blackdoglet just to ease my mind. Wishing you both a nice weekend. ❤

blackdoglet · 14/04/2018 20:03

Joining you WineWine @realhousewifey (just realised you name changed).

Fingers crossed for good news when you next see/hear from Drs.

Happy weekend 😎

blackdoglet · 20/04/2018 08:23

@realhousewifey How did your appt go yesterday?

realhousewifey · 20/04/2018 16:55

Thank you @blackdoglet for remembering. Thankfully only cysts. Dr found 2 on each breast. Aspirated one on left side drained easy but when he put needle in right cyst didn't drain. Tried couple of times no luck. They sent I think the fluid? ) for testing and said depending on results might need biopsy. Spend 50 tense minutes waiting then consultant said the solid cyst was benign. Relief!! I asked why it didn't drain and he said it may have got infected but they are no doing anything else with it. I was so glad to hear it was benign I forgot to ask if there was any possibility the breast cyst could be raising my Ca125 level. Was just so glad to get out of there. 😩

Giovanna75 · 20/04/2018 17:44

OP, try not to worry. I had the exact same result seven years ago and my consultant didn’t seem in the slightest bit worried. He just said it was a result of inflammation somewhere in the body. I never did find out the cause and the pelvic pain I was experiencing stopped shortly after. I’m sure you have nothing to worry about Flowers

realhousewifey · 20/04/2018 18:43

@Giovanna75 Thank you for your encouragement. Did you have ovarian cyst also. My reading is 58 and although doctor said cyst didn't look suspicious due to reading will remove.

Giovanna75 · 20/04/2018 20:17

I did have a dermoid cyst removed a few years before & I also lost the ovary it was attached to. It was benign though so that was a relief. I have mild endometriosis aswell which can flare up from time to time. I personally think that causes inflammation but I could be wrong! Hope it all works out for you.

realhousewifey · 20/04/2018 23:27

@Giovanna75 Thank you. X

realhousewifey · 21/04/2018 21:11

@TwitterQueen1 I'm still getting used to navigating around mumsnet but have found your story on other threads. I have nothing useful to say to you however want to thank you for being so incredibly honest. I have been drawn particularly to your posts... not in a stalking way tho. Lol. Until my surgery, which I hope will happen soon,I don't know what is ahead of me. Your posts have made me think of questions to ask as I normally prefer to bury my head in the sand, and not ask too many questions, for fear of the answers. Some of your posts have made me laugh too. Thank you. I'm sending good wishes your way and hope you are well at this time. God bless. Thanks

blackdoglet · 22/04/2018 14:30

Good news @realhousewifey Smile

blackdoglet · 10/05/2018 20:54

@realhousewifey How are you? Any results?

I seem to be following you at the moment - just spent afternoon at breast clinic again!

Two weeks ago found a lump in right boob, similar to one 2yrs ago (that turned out to be a cyst) so went to GP and agreed it probably was another cyst. Referred to clinic, went to a sort of triage clinic few days later and consultant found more in right boob and said come back for u/s and probable aspiration.

Went today, has u/s - right boob multiple cysts and she drained largest one. Then turned to left boob and said you've lots more here, let's aspirate this one. Needle in - nothing. Tried again with different needle - nothing. Hmmm. So she said these are different this side, too solid to get fluid, will need biopsy. Yikes!!! Wasn't expecting that. Local anaesthetic went in and two biopsies taken. Appointment for a weeks time for results. The Dr didn't seem too worried, she said they were most likely benign fibro somethings but as I'm over 50, she wants to be sure. And it puts a marker/baseline on my scans for future mammograms etc

So went in with lumpy right boob and came out with numb left one!

I will ask next week about any potential ca125 correlation.

gillmoregirl · 10/05/2018 21:24

@blackdoglet Hi. Good to hear from u. Changed my mar again. Thought real housewivey made me sound like more grand than I was like the ones on tv.

Yip. U seem to have had same experience as I had. I'm not sure what they did but at ultrasound I noticed they took out what I assumed to be fluid in a needle and placed it on trays and took to test. I was at a one stop clinic. Try not to worry although I know from experience that is hard. Statistically it is much more likely to be benign like mine. I'm waiting on appt for surgery to remove cyst from ovary which I'm still concerned about but trying not to borrow trouble. Please try not to worry and I'll keep you in my thoughts. Please let me know how u get on. 💐

gillmoregirl · 10/05/2018 21:25

@blackdoglet Changed my name or my mar. Lol. Bloody predictive text. 😩
