Feeling so ill

lougle · 22/12/2016 19:15

Day 4 now. Day 1, felt rough - cough, nose, eyes, cheekbones, etc. Didn't sleep all night.
Day 2 was meant to do a night shift. Felt grim. Took a nap to try and prepare. Luckily work phoned and gave annual leave as quiet. Stupid thinking I could work.
Day 3 (yesterday) another night shift. Phoned in sick. Temp 37.9, heart rate 146, coughing and breathlessness.
Day 4 (today) mostly slept. Weak and exhausted. Cough, sore throat, etc., continues.

I've never felt this bad in my life. It's taken me ages to type this. I'm pretty sure it's viral. Could be a flu strain (had my jab at work, ITU) or just a very heavy cold. ButI can barely walk.

How much longer will I be this unwell? I have 3 children to think about.

Glad you got more meds badders, does seem like it's a tough one to shift. What have you got this time? Current lot of abs seem to be working for me but are giving me a terrible headache. Meant to be on holiday next week so anxious that it works!

Badders123 · 28/12/2016 11:29

I'm allergic to penicillin and quite a few others like erythromycin
So I had doxycycline and am now on cefalexin
Fingers x!

dahliaaa · 28/12/2016 19:29

We've all got it here. I've never had a cold like it. Throat is agony and can't sleep.
Been weepy today. As I've put on another thread DH has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and I had been doing everything to try and make Christmas perfect Sad
In better news I have had 3 choc ices today as its all I can manage to eatCake

Badders123 · 28/12/2016 20:05

Oh dahlia
I'm so sorry Flowers
It's an awful bug for sure

MeganChips · 28/12/2016 20:17

Sorry to hear that dahliaaa.

I have been floored with this all over Christmas. It started last Wednesday, I had a raging temperature for several days and felt like I'd been run over. Sore throat, bad cough (luckily no chest infection so far) and generally just feeling shit. And having to get on with all things Christmas at the same time.

DM had it and had 2 lots of steroids and ABs so I got off lightly in comparison.

DH hurt his shoulder which has irrationally annoyed me, it's like I can't even have the misery of feeling crap alone.

dahliaaa · 28/12/2016 23:36

Thank you x

I've just coughed up a small amount of blood - sorry TMI

Can't say I'm surprised as it feels like I've swallowed a bag of razors!

Think probably burst a vessel or something.

Hope everyone starts to feel better tomorrow. I'll be back on the choc ices !

Badders123 · 29/12/2016 09:12

Coughing up blood = trip to the dr!!!!
Go on!
Off you go!

dahliaaa · 29/12/2016 10:04

Not sure I can face more Drs. There wasn't any more blood during night so will see how I am today.

Oogle · 29/12/2016 12:49

I'm also bed-ridden. Woke up in early hours of 27th with a cough. Felt shivery all day but perked up in the evening. Hosted friends last night but couldn't face eating. Today I can't get out of bed. Symptoms are high temp of 39.9 pre-painkillers, 39.5 post (although last check showed 38.8 which is a good sign), killer cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, palpitations, blocked nose, shivering, sweating, extreme tiredness, sore skin, aches and pains all over my body. I can't move out of bed. I haven't eaten a proper meal since Xmas eve. It's got so bad today that I've called the surgery and I'm waiting for a call back from the nurse.

Desperately hoping my DH and toddler don't get it.

dahliaaa · 29/12/2016 15:21

oogle that sounds awful. Get plenty of rest and hope the GP calls back with useful advice Flowers

lougle · 29/12/2016 16:03

Poor you, oogle. I hope you recover soon. I've got an emergency appointment with the Dr this afternoon. I went to work yesterday but it was awful and today I'm feeling so rough, with a HR reaching 140 just by standing up. So I need to get checked out.

lougle I hope Drs goes ok x

Badders123 · 29/12/2016 16:56

Ooogle...sounds like flu Sad

Badders123 · 29/12/2016 16:57

I'm still coughing
Temp ok but headache again today
My hr keeps going up too
I had a flu jab too! Always do after becoming very ill 20 years ago
If you have flu - rest, rest, rest!!

Oogle · 29/12/2016 17:04

Poor us!

Husband useless when I'm ill. He's grumpy with me because he's had to look after the toddler all day and he's exhausted. Boo fucking hoo.

I'd love to be looking after my toddler instead of being laid up in bed, in agony with a temp of 39.4.

Badders123 · 29/12/2016 17:11

Poor
Him 😳🙄
Thank god dh has been off work and has been pulling his
Ds1 is ill too so we have been in bed and dh has been taking ds2 out and about
I was up all Xmas eve and Xmas day night with ds1 and was awake for the precious week due to coughing
Ds1 and I are still catching up on our sleep Smile
Cancelled Boxing Day plans, cancelled NYE plans and am dreading going back to work next week Sad

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 29/12/2016 17:20

I've just been discharged from hospital after week in with pneumonia. Mine started just the same and escalated quickly. This is a very nasty bug- any sign of pain on breathing in don't delay in getting checked out- I reckon I wouldn't have been in if I'd have acted faster-

lougle · 29/12/2016 17:25

I'm back from the GP. As I thought, not much to do with the heart rate. When I'm better I'm going to have an ECG, but as I don't have any other markers of sepsis, the HR on its own is ok.

The GP has written me a fit note for 31st/1st so that if I'm not better I can call in sick without worrying. I was very reluctant, but she pointed out that there would be no chance of getting one nearer the time, and I don't have to use it if I'm feeling better by then, so I have it as a plan C (Plan A: Be better; Plan B: Be well enough to dose up and get through an 8 hour shift).

I know Badders. I was a bit like "wtf...?" Knob. To be fair, the toddler has been a pain in the arse today but I can barely move so can't help. Still got diarrhoea too - no idea how there's anything left in me.

Flipping heck allfur! I hope you're feeling better now? You poor thing xx

lougle - if you need the fit note, it's there. Glad you've got one. Take it easy xx

Badders123 · 29/12/2016 17:44

I have a Sats finger probe (ds is asthmatic and has pneumonia 2 years ago)
My Sats are 99/98 but my hr has gone up to 160 Sad
I got some covonia night cough stuff - knocked me out last night 👍

PurpleMcPants · 29/12/2016 19:53

Feeling like there may be a light at the far end of the tunnel for me - I don't think I've had the same as most, certainly hasn't been flu. But am almost at the end of third round of antibiotics and the various infections seem to be subsiding. I'm just so totally knackered! Still having to have a nap every day and out of breath just going up the stairs so very far from 'fit' but still on the right track. At long last! I think this is week 4 or 5, I've lost count.
