get it to go away. Do you think your body gets to stage where painkillers just stop working???

I'm in agony, have a broken tooth that im waiting to have fixed, but now the pain has gone into my jaw and i'm sobbing in pain, i have never know pain like it. I just keep walking the floor cos i cant sit still.

oh no, have you tried clove oil?

wurlywurly · 17/02/2007 20:05

extra strength painkillers, contains asprin, paracetamol caffeine and sorbitol.

What painkillers are you taking? If you usually take e.g. paracetamol, try ibuprofen or asprin instead - another type might help.

Co-codamol is usually the best for more severe pain I find.

Is your stomach feeling odd or have you had diorreah or been feeling sick at all?

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/02/2007 20:06

try ibuprofen and cocodamol taken together. If that doesn't help your GP can prescribe you some codyramol or codiene phosphate for very severe pain.

i have doctors for something different on tuesday, may ask him for some strong painkillers as well.

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/02/2007 20:08

meant to add that the extra strength tablets you have been using probably don't have enough paracetamol in them, its usually 200mg ish per tablet because of the aspirin, so ditch these if thats the case!

Mercy · 17/02/2007 20:09

Can you make an emergency appointment to see a dentist (usually in a hospital) or even a doctor? You shouldn't have to put up with this level of pain

Do you have any oil of cloves? There's also an acu-pressure technique where you press your face to the immediate left of the bottom of your nose. But it sounds like you're beyond that.

TheArmadillo · 17/02/2007 20:09

I'd try as the others have suggested a combination of tablets.

This has worked on me (in my case co-codamol and asprin) when nothing else would touch the pain and it was recommended by a gp.

Horrible though. Hope you find some way of easing it soon.

BuffysMum · 17/02/2007 20:09

sounds like it could be infected????

BuffysMum · 17/02/2007 20:10

or the nerve is dying - it is excrutiatingly painful - I remember the relief of having root canal treatment aged 14 because the pain actually stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 20:11

Agree with mercy - you shouldn't have to wait to have this fixed. Is there a dental hospital near you or an emergency dentist? Even A&E. Tooth pain is just awful.

ScoobyDooooo · 17/02/2007 20:11

Sounds like an infection.

Have you tried Paramol they have codine in you get them over the counter in a chemist or tescos etc my dp has had many bad times with his teeth this is what he used & clove oil.

BuffysMum · 17/02/2007 20:11

isn't co-codamol you can't get anymore? I'd try a paracetamol mixed with codeine like solpadeine, and aspirin and ibuprofen. Just make sure you write down what you take when and how long to leave it in between dosages.

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/02/2007 20:12

No its coproxamol which was prescription only.

wurlywurly · 17/02/2007 20:13

have taken a co-codamol as well now, (only one) hopefully that will help. Can get an emergency appt, but dont have the money to pay for the work til the end of the month

Mercy · 17/02/2007 20:13

Wurly, ibruprofen is better as ohters have said. Be careful about how much and what combo you are taking though.

I can't see you putting up with this until Tuesday. Phone someone now.

Failing that, a bottle of whisky might help!

wurlywurly · 17/02/2007 20:15

i have had this pain on and off for nearly 4 weeks. Went to see the dentist and he made me an appointment to go back the following week to have some work donw but I suffer panic attacks so i had to cancel that and now i have to go to a clinic where they will sedate me to have the work done.

Miaou · 17/02/2007 20:15

Oh wurly, sympathy - there is nothing more painful than toothache, I am convinced of it

I have a broken tooth with an exposed nerve and a dentist appointment in May - I am soooo nervous that I'm not going to make it to May before all hell breaks loose ...

You can mix different sorts of painkillers but I won't pretend to know which - someone has doubtless posted what you can take whilst I have been mithering on ...

BuffysMum · 17/02/2007 20:17

mmm I think each pct has to provide an emergency NHS dentist usually they are at your local walk in clinic? Would that be cheaper? Could you ask someone to pay on credit card/loan you the money until the end of the month?

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/02/2007 20:17

When did you last take your original painkillers? Have you got some ibuprofen you could take, if its been more than 4 hrs then take another cocodamol aswell.

BuffysMum · 17/02/2007 20:17

also smoother it in sensodyne toothpaste or similar if you haven't got clove oil

wurlywurly · 17/02/2007 20:18

i wouldnt mind but the tooth broke about 4 years ago and has NEVER been painful til 4 weeks ago, and i had always promised myself that as soon as it got painful I would go and get it sorted out (i hate going to the dentist)
