I should name change for this, but I feel like living dangerously.........

This is one of those questions you can only ask on a place like Mumsnet:

when you have a cold and you are all snotty and catarrhal, do you find that you also get an increase in your vaginal secretions?

errr, morningpaper, move along now, nothing to see.

Or comment on in your weekly round up!

which I noticed came out early this week. What are you doing? Taking a long weekend?

OP posts:
morningpaper · 08/02/2007 21:12

no Justine and Carrie were both busy Thursday and Friday and they have to scribble all over my work with pencil before it goes out, so I have to have it in early....

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:13

Ah, I am sure Justine and Carrie would not allow such a tasteless thread to get a mention....

I HAD to name change because we seem to be such a minority that I am feeling like a freak, but just wanted to say yes DDG.... me too!

brandnewhelsy · 08/02/2007 21:23

Me too , also when the weather's a bit chilly.

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:24

Aww no need to name change! I am glad that some other peole share my "affliction". that is all I wanted to know really. As long as someone else has the same experience, I know I am normal, and you are too aliasme!

OP posts:
aliasme · 08/02/2007 21:31

Who? Me? Normal...that name change has alot to answer for . This is what I love about Munsnet!! I would never have thought to start a thread on the topic but am actually somewhat relieved to know that particular 'occurence' is relatively normal, would it be inappropriate to send you a warm, grateful {{{hug}}} DDG and fellow erm...rhumy fanjo sufferers!!!

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:33

No problem! Just keep your legs together!

NotQuiteCockney · 08/02/2007 21:34

I have never noticed this, but I find there are too many variables, between cycle/mood/etc etc. But I will watch for it in future.

It's certainly not that strange an idea, certainly if decongestants dry up vaginas too, wouldn't being congested make vaginas moister?

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:35

Do decongestants dry up vaginas?

OP posts:
poppiesinaline · 08/02/2007 21:39

so then DG? Does that mean that your fanjo also feels more 'up for it' even though you are ill?

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:41

No sexual desire remains the same. If dh got close enough, he might think he was on to something though.

OP posts:
poppiesinaline · 08/02/2007 21:41

ROFL

NotQuiteCockney · 08/02/2007 21:42

Well, colditz says they do, and so do some medicine descriptions . I've certainly noticed dry mouth from decongestants, but then I can't stand non-drowsy ones, so am normally not awake while enjoying their benefits.

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:44

Hmm interesting..... I have long wondered if Sudafed does anything for me, and now that I am dosed up to the eyeballs in the stuff, I can categorically assure you it does not!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 08/02/2007 21:45

Are you saying it isn't decongesting your nose? Or your nether regions?

Decongestants definately work for me, but they make me really really annoyed. I don't know why. I don't take them when I plan to be awake.

MrsJohnCusack · 08/02/2007 21:48

well decongestants do dry up other stuff as well - isn't that why you can't take them when you're pregnant?

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 21:50

I cant say whether they are working on my nose. All I can say is, my nose (and throat) are completely bunged up solid right now. And , well, I will leave other areas of the body to your imagination!

OP posts:
margo1974 · 08/02/2007 21:58

I once read (whilst trying to conceive) that you should take Benylin Chesty cough syrup which reduces, along with mucus up there, mucus "down there" if you wanted to increase your chances of conceiving.

So you never know...

btw both daughters conceived during coughs and colds!

NotQuiteCockney · 08/02/2007 21:58

To be fair, the decongestants just stop you producing new ... goop. They don't actually speed up the evaporation of existing goop. And of course if your nose is blocked solid with horrible solid goop, decongestants will just reduce how much goop you're adding to that, iyswim.

DumbledoresGirl · 08/02/2007 22:02

Hmmm, I think I followed that NQC. Well, can't put off the evil moment any longer. I need to go to bed with my tissues (and toilet roll!) and paracetamol and sudafed and pint of water and karvol and everything else, in the vain hope of getting a decent night's sleep.

Oh and thanks for that margo. There will definitely be no more children in the making!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 08/02/2007 22:17

I thought vaginal mucous was sperm-friendly? I thought that was what it was there for?

Um, DG, I hope you've not been taking the non-drowsy antihistamine so close to bed time? It makes me all jumpy and non-sleepy ...

margo1974 · 08/02/2007 22:26

Keep your legs crossed and say no!

longwaytogoandabitfurther · 08/02/2007 22:39

ok this is what ent specialists advise for synusitus - sniff up warm saline water, apparantly although it really hurts the first time it works wonders. Loads of muck just comes away. Someone at work swears by it and she's a nurse.

DimpledThighs · 09/02/2007 07:48

yes it was an yes to you roriginal post - don't know why and don't know if it is associated but I do notice that it happens.

I usually end up with a bout of thrush at the end - Hoorah!
