I'd appreciate some help with an essay i'm doing on GP's facilities, so if anyone can answer a few questions for me, i would be eternally grateful!

What city or county are you in?

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?

Any other comments?

  1. Hertfordshire
  2. Only 2 occasions in 4 years that I have been unable to get an appointment.
  3. Yes (I think!)
  4. No, but out of hours we had to drive to our local hospital which is 15 miles away as they no longer do home visits.
  5. Yes, apart from answer to question 4. There is also one individual doctor who I avoid like the plague because she is weird and nasty.

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)

no there is a walk in surgery everyday from 9am-11am as well as appointments, which are always available.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?

no there isn't a nurse! so for blood test etc we have to go to the local hospital.

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?

no

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?

yes

Any other comments?

I had to leave my previous doctors because I could never get an appointment. Also the doctors didn't listen properly.

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)

No. They have a half hour daily drop in for kids under 12 to see a doctor. Some appointments available in advance, most same day. Will squeeze you in if you're desperate either with a few appointments they keep spare or by going at end of practise. I don't have a specific GP, just see whoever is available.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?

GYN specialist doc, FP specialist nurse, HV, community midwife. I don't need to use other services so don't know.

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?

No

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?

Very much. I will be upset when we move.

Any other comments?

Touch screen check in saves soooo much time!

Yes--I love my surgery, and my GP is terrific. I have very few complaints. But my previous surgery was terrible, and it took some doing to find a good one in my catchment area. . .but I'm very glad I made the effort.

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) Trouble getting through on their annoying phone system

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? NO! It's a satellite of a larger practice some distance away and there is the expectation you have to go to the bigger practice for some services. It is not easily accessible by public transport, unbelievably.

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No, because ironically our out of hours service is better than our daytime one.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?
Not really. Most of them are nice enough but one or two really should not be in practice IMO, because of their attitude. The two good doctors are oversubscribed so it is virtually impossible to see them

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)
No. Our surgery is particuarly good for under-5s, you ring every morning at 8am and go in for 8.30 and your are seen before morning surgery starts at 9am. I also sometimes use the phone - describe symptoms to receptionist, what I've already done (calpol etc) and then she will grab the GP between appointments who will usually say come along in 20 mins.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?
yes - but when I was pregnant I had difficulties seeing midwives there because I live over a local authority boundary - this is a problem peculiar to London, I understand.

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No. I have used our out of hours service on a number of occasions, and only used A&E when I was very concerned (dd2 literally could barely breathe because of a viral infection) - this was out of normal surgery hours. Also dd2 once had a non-blanching rash which we only noticed once I was in with the GP - who wrote a referral letter and phoned the A&E as I drove up there.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?
Yes I am

Any other comments? I opted for our surgery as it has 5 or 6 female GPs (we now have a token male ) and a fairly flexible appointments system. My girls love tapping in their date of birth onto the screen when we arrive (which saves the receptionists' and our time)

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)

If you phone between 8.30 and 8.45am you can usually get an 'on the day' appointment, but they will be gone very very quickly. Otherwise an appointment is in a couple of days.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?

So far!

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?

Nope.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?

Fairly. As long as you are organised it is pretty easy to get an appointment.

Any other comments?

I have never been seen on time for an appointment, they are usually 5-15 mins behind schedule, I haven't complained but if the patient ever dares to be late it has often been treated as a minor sin.

My surgery is very organised and well run, however, the last surgery i was with was disorganised, i couldnt get an appt for about 2 weeks, the staff were rude, there were different doctors each time. it was just awful.
