Some nosy questions that'll help with my essay....

DetentionGrrrl · 15/01/2007 20:47

I'd appreciate some help with an essay i'm doing on GP's facilities, so if anyone can answer a few questions for me, i would be eternally grateful!

What city or county are you in?

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?

Any other comments?

Gwent

No trouble. Surgery offers five mins appt for urgent appts and you ring up on the day. If you cant get a five min appt on the day you ring up, doc will spk to you on phone if it cant wait.

Baby clinic, treatment room, not sure what else as havent used anything else!

Only out of hours, after referred there through NHS helpline.

Yes although everyone has their fsvourite and least favourite doctors which can make it a bit of a lucky dip when you or ds taken ill.

Good luck

fizzbuzz · 15/01/2007 21:30

Live in Sheffield, and have wonderful, wonderful doc. Can be a problem getting to see her, as everyone wants to see her so she gets booked up.

Never get rushed out, she always takes her time, and follows up if required with phone calls.

Never had to go to A&E because of it

sleepfinder · 15/01/2007 21:32
  1. London
  2. Yes, she's frequently away skiing or sunning her ass in fairer climes
  1. Facilities? what are those?
  2. We've gone to a "medical centre" where you get a 25 mins appointment and PAY for it.
  1. No. They are completely reactive rather than preventative or cautionary. To my own actual physical detriment.

What city or county are you in? Herts

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) No but you have to spend 20 minutes on the phone at 8:30am (so convenient with the school run) and you usually have to wait an hour after the appt time

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? It could do with a nappy changer...

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP? Guess so

geekgrrl · 15/01/2007 21:54

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) There is a 'rota' that comes out the week before, so if you know you are going to be ill, you can make an appt with your GP, otherwise, you phone up on the day you are ill and take pot luck who you see.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Yes, large surgery, everything available

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP? Yes

Any other comments?

What city or county are you in? West Sussex

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) Don't even get me started on this one. Ridiculous appointment system where you can either make an appt for about 3 weeks in advance or do the 8.30 a.m scramble for a place in the telephone queue for the few available appts on the day. Generally there are none left so you get put on the duty doctor's list. They then ring you to decide whether you are worthy enough to be squeezed in some time that afternoon. This applies whether you are 3 months, 3 years, 33 or 93. IT DRIVES ME INSANE!!!!!!

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Guess so, imms clinic, various well woman, blood pressure counsellor clinics, blood taking etc

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? Not casualty, but minor injuries 8am -10pm

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?
Try really hard not to use them, because it only infuriates me. In fact I am looking forward to moving house to justify the change of surgery to escape th appt system!

Any other comments?

What city or county are you in? Morvern Peninsula, Scotland (so not sure if my comments are relevant...?)

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) Nope - don't even need to make an appointment, just go right in!

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Yes, antenatal care and even minor surgery (skin tag removal, for eg)

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP? Yes they are both brilliant, really nice people with time for you.

Any other comments? I realise just how lucky I am!!!

What city or county are you in? Manchester

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) For baby - no. For me - yes. The receptionists are horrible and i have complained about them for being so unwelcoming and unhelpful.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Yes, its OK - there's a midwife, baby clinic.. but Its dead scruffy and feels dirty and unhygenic!

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?
Yes, took baby to A&E at Manchester Royal Infirmary cos the receptionist said that the doctor was too busy to see my baby who had a purple blotchy rash on legs!!! We waited for hours in A&E before we were seen... bastards.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?
Nope! Trying to find a new one but the ones I have tried are oversubscribed and won't take us on as new patients so we're stuck.

Any other comments? Had better not!

Indith · 15/01/2007 22:04

What city or county are you in? Durham

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc) Nope they have open surgery everyday (though you can't choose who you see) so never any problem for short notice visits and appointments open on Friday for the week ahead. I've never not managed to get on with who I needed.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Yes shiny new medical centre seems to have everything. Midwife and practice nurse great and all new facilities.

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP? Yes, although to be honest I don't really have a set GP at my surgery as I usually go to open surgery.

Any other comments?

Yorkshire -very large town

Yes/no: only 2 prebookable appt slots available mon wed fri. The rest is first come first served over telephone at 8am that morning. But you do get 10 minsand can usually be seen that day by someone.

Excellent Health centre

No actually. If you go in and speak to the receptionist in person, they will always grab a passing Dr to slot you asap in if anxious.

Satisfied 95%
Would be so helpful if there was a minor injuries unit there.
Have to cling to preferred GP like glue as they seem to come and go quickly.

What city or county are you in?
Glasgow (South Side - not actually in the city)

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)
Can always get appointments for the kids, sometimes a bit of a wait for myself but a)it's not usually something urgent and b)I usually want to see a particular doctor

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need?
Really don't like the health visitor there but kids are now past the age where we need her. Not sure what other facilities a GP might have...?

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery?
Yes - DD has a history of dislocating her elbow. She did this last year and GP refused to see her and we had to go to casualty to get it popped back in.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP?
Yes.

Any other comments?

City - Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Ever have trouble seeing GP? - Yes, only one GP on duty at our clinic which is an anx of a main clinic a bit further away. Usually can see dr within 2 days or same day if an emergency (whatever that is!)

Does GP's have all facillities? - Not at our clinic but at the main clinic, yes. Most essentials are at our clinic tho.

Ever been to casualty? - No

Overall satisfied? - Yes, the doctors are actually fantastic and they only opened the clinic to try and ease the waiting time for appts. It's a large area that they cover. The receptionists are strangely helpful too (and I've never seen that before!)

MrsBadger · 16/01/2007 09:03

Am in Oxon.

Sometimes have trouble seeing my own GP at short notice but always get to see someone.

I registered at my surgery specifically becasue it's got all the bells and whistles.

Never had to go to casualty because GP unavailable.

Am satisfied overall.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/01/2007 09:11

What city or county are you in?
Staffs

Do you ever have trouble seeing your GP? (Can't get an appointment, doctor rushes you out etc)
Adults yes, it can be difficult to get a same day appointment. They are very accomodating with children.

Does your GP surgery have all the facilities you need? Yes

Have you or your family ever gone to casualty because a doctor wasn't available at your surgery? No, other than extreme emergency which GP wouldn't have dealt with anyway.

Overall, are you satisfied with your GP? Yes, he's brill.

Any other comments? My previous GP was everything this one isn't. He was our family GP for a long time and I stuck with the practice out of loyalty until he let us down big-time.
