yeah i would think so with school ans nurseries and stuff - there you go how difinitive was that? not

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 19/12/2006 11:32

Yes.

Ds1 had it aged 3 and ds2 had it aged 20 months (this was at the same time).

Ds3 has it now - he's 2.

Dh and I have both had it.

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 19/12/2006 11:33

Ds3 has deffo got it from nursery - it was going around the last few weeks of term and he and his friend have both come out with it just as term ended.

MariNativityPlay · 19/12/2006 11:33

I had it at 17 and passed out at work as I was coming down with it - I was really ill.
These days I do think most children have had it by five anniebear, thanks to soft play/playgroups/more children in daycare.
My two both got it out of the way by three.
Its peak occurrence is late winter through to late spring so hopefully your two will get it this year coming.

sandyballs · 19/12/2006 11:36

My DD's (now 5), got it when they were 2. One had it horribly, completely covered from head to toe, up her bottom, in her mouth. I hadn't realised you could be so poorly with chicken pox. I just lay on the sofa with her for about 4 days. Her sister got it two weeks later and had about 5 spots, but made ten times more fuss .

moonshine · 19/12/2006 11:36

Dd was 3 and ds was 5 months when they had it together. I got it at 17 during my 'A' levels - the teachers just stuck me in isolation and handed me the papers whilst holding a hankie over their mouths!

scotlou · 19/12/2006 11:40

I got it in June this year (aged 40!) from my ds (age 6). dd - 4 - has managed to escape it so far.

happystory · 19/12/2006 11:40

Ds had it in reception, hardly ill at all and not too many spots. Exactly 2 weeks later dd had it, she was 18 months, don't remember her being particularly ill but COVERED in spots, especially round mouth and in nappy area.

Dh had it in his early 20s and was quite ill for about 3 weeks. And had to grow a beard and looked ghastly!

anniebear · 19/12/2006 11:41

thye have mixed loads with other children from a very early age

dont really want them to have it lol. The thought of being stuck in for weeks !!!!!!

But better for them to have it now!!

So has anyones child NOT had it?!

My dd1 got it just after I came home from hospital with newborn ds. Poor dd2 got a stonking dose of it a fortnight later, but ds only had a couple of spots. It's likely he'll get it again later. Maybe your dss had a similar early exposure and have had some immunity for now - very often newborn cp is hardly noticable - it's only dangerous if the mother hasn't had it.

I got it at 13 during the summer holidays!

flack · 19/12/2006 11:57

I know a lot of people who didn't get it until adults or late childhood. It swept through DD's reception class recently, many of the children already 5.

lucykate · 19/12/2006 11:59

both mine have had it, dd was 3.5yrs, ds was 7weeks old. i had it at the age of 24!.

admylin · 19/12/2006 12:10

Mine had it aged 1 and 2 1/2 - we brought it back to Germany after catching it from cousins while in the uK on holiday.
In the UK parents seem to try to get their kids to catch it by going round and playing at ill kids houses and I was also quite pleased that they got it so early but back in our little German village other mothers and tots crossed the street in horror when I mentioned that we had it. Different views I suppose.

ChristmasisComing · 19/12/2006 13:09

My dd and ds and dh all had it at the same time. Dh was definitley the worst - in bed for over a week!!

DumbledoresFairy · 19/12/2006 13:16

When my children got it, the oldest got if first (he was in Reception at school but still only 4). He gave it to my 3 year old and 11 month old baby, so they all had it at what might be considered the usual time. My youngest wasn't born at the time but he is now nearly 4 and has missed out on at least one bout of chicken pox going round playgroup.

Oh and about the severity of the illness. None of mine were what you might call ill. Ds1 had no symptoms at all apart from the spots - he had about 50 in all. Ds2 had a temperature for one afternoon and dd woke one night crying with what I presume was itchiness. Those last 2 were absolutely covered from head to toe in spots, even on their eyelids. It was then I realised that when I had counted 50 spots on ds1, he was having quite a mild case! But despite that, as I said, none of mine were ill as such.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 19/12/2006 13:18

I have been trying to get someone to give it to my DSs, but to no avail.

DP had it at 27, and was really ill.

USAUKMum · 19/12/2006 13:30

My DS got it at 9mths, then gave it to DD who was 4.2 ! But I had been trying for years to get DD to have it -- exposed her 7 times previously. But when DS got it, I recall telling DD to kiss him . But at least it worked ! [ wink]

Troutpout · 19/12/2006 13:46

ds had it at 20 months
I have never had it. I am nearly 40 and have been exposed to it a million times. I have 6 brothers and sisters and they all had it ..along with mumps, measles, german measles etc. I never caught anything.
dd is nearly 4 and has been exposed to it 4 times to my knowledge and still hasn't caught it.
Is it possible to have it without getting any spots?

Troutpout · 19/12/2006 13:48

oh and ds was covered ...his back was like one big crust. He had them in his mouth..on his willy and in his ears.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 19/12/2006 13:53

i got it at 17 when i pregnant with ds and it was horrible!! was annoyed cos went to the doc at the sign of the first spot and he told me it didnt look like chicken pox. went back on the monday and it was quite obvious it was. however if he had realised that on the friday i could have had some tablet to make it not as bad grrr

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 19/12/2006 13:53

trout pout some people have natural immunity

mamijacacalys · 19/12/2006 14:08

Anniebear - I too had it at 21 and it knocked me for six Xmas Sad. Had to take 2 weeks off work - I am never ill so was a big shock to my system.

Agree that most kids these days will probably get it by the time they're 5. My DS had it when he was 2 (still has a little pock scar by his left eye, bless) and he probably picked it up from nursery (it was doing the rounds again recently in his reception class). DD is 5 months and is starting nursery in January so she too is likely to get it before she starts school.

themoon66 · 19/12/2006 14:17

Mine had it for his first birthday. He was so bad, he had spots under his foreskin and under his eyelids. He got it again when we were on 2 weeks camping holiday in Spain at the age of 3, but not as bad. He got it a third time at the age of 7, but only half a dozen spots over his entire body and a bit of fever.
