bumping this up for CP, hope this helps

Katieh · 16/07/2004 23:40

yesterday I started a thread under "Sleep" for this topic - so very interested to read all your comments. my dd is 8.5 months and wakes every 2-3 hours every night - with what appears to be wind problems. I am taking her to see a homeopath this week for a remedy I hope - it will be interesting to see if she prescribes ABCdophilus.....

gloworm · 16/07/2004 23:53

katie, ABCdof is a herbal remedy, not a homeopathic remedy, so it is not one she is likely to precsribe...herbal remedies and homeopathis remedies are both great, but are 2 different things.
you can use both together, put may have to take them at different times of the day

popsycal · 16/07/2004 23:54

i am sure i just posted on this thread a while ago and now it has gone?
odd

gloworm · 16/07/2004 23:59

are you sure it was this one popsycal...there are lots of windy threads about at the moment?

popsycal · 17/07/2004 00:02

oh right!!
anyway - there are some baby massage techniques that you can use....

one is called 'tiger in the tree'. if you hold your arm across your body under your chest and then hold your baby on your arm with the palm of your hand on her tummy, the gentle pressure really helps.
did that make any sense?
will try to find a link for you

popsycal · 17/07/2004 00:04

This is a little clearer!!!

If your baby remains fractious try Tiger in the Tree and you do this by picking up your baby, their back to your chest and while holding your baby with one arm place the other over your babys shoulder across the front of their chest, taking care to cradle their head in the crook of your arm. Now bring your other arm between your babys legs and feet and place your hand across their tummy. Now standing or walking rock your baby gently as you pat and rub their tummy.

Hi again everyone, Just thought I'd let you all know how my dd has reacted to the abc doph. We started on Friday morning, giving approx 1/4 tsp per 24 hrs in the feeds. Well at the moment she seems a little worse. My dh said he took this a long time ago and initially it gave him trapped wind as the gut adjusts to the new bacteria. I thought I'd give it until this Friday and the assess the situation. Gloworm, how long do you think I should give it?

Spod, how much dairy were you giving in the first place? My dd has a special dairy free formula milk so she gets all the nourishment from that. I give soya yoghurt derserts (with added calcium) which she loves. It's really hard to cut it out completely as so many products have some form of dairy in them.

gloworm · 17/07/2004 22:57

fimble i'd give it a few weeks at least...friendly bacteria are something that need to be in everybodys gut for us to remain healthy.

we only use tip of teaspoon for baby and this seems to be enough...why dont you use a tiny bit for a while and see how it goes.

Thanks gloworm, will give it at least another 2 weeks for any improvement.

Spod, I'm, SO pleased for you both. What do you think did the trick, C.O or the dairy free?

Can I ask what happened at the C.O, my dd will Never stay still and she is also EXTREMELY shy and anxious so I don't think C.O could be an option for me.

Please keep us posted - Thanks.

I would recomend infant massage, there are some specific exercises that really help.
There is a great book infant massage by vimla mcclure, which I use as an infant massage instructor.
I trained with the international association of infant massage have a look at \link www.iaim.org
If anyone lives in Poole/Bournemouth area, than please get in touch. I am currently offering infant massage classes in the area

Good luck
Rachel

Hi Spod, I'm so pleased for you. At least you now know what has caused it. I suspected this from when you first posted.

Also just to let you know that the a.dc dophilus is NOT working. I may have to go dairy free again, but I have a feeling that my dd's case is more complicated.

hi spod, been trying to reply for 2 days , dd can be so demanding sometimes.

Anyway, dd has some dairy ie her favourite dish is cauli/cheese, can u imagine, one of the most windiest dishes there is. She loves cheese, and that is the only protein she gets as she won't eat chicken/mince etc. Will ocassionally eat a fish finger. Her diet is SO limited, I am afraid if I cut out the dairy completely there will be nothing left to give her. Gosh it's hard isn't it.

I'm fed up of thinking about what is wrong with her and I'm really anxious about the scan. I'm going to wait a few months before doing it though so I can explain properly to her. She won't understand properly yet and even if she did, her extreme fear would take over.

Glad the C.O is working, its very interesting, again, may try that abit later on, if I can find someone!!

ANyway, thanks for asking, nice speaking to you and do you know, I thought I was the only one whose child had this terrible problem. Glad to know I'm not on my own, (not that i'm, happy other parents have to go through it) (iykwim).

Take care xx

Hi spod

sorry to hear yr dd is suffering again, hopefully it is the teeth. I don't think babies have it easy, I think they really suffer with one thing or another. All my dd has known is discomfort, NEVER had a relaxing sleep and it makes me feel really bad.

Does yr dd sleep in funny positions, does she twist & turn in her sleep, whimpering? My dd used to sleep with her bottom in the air, rocking herself - poor thing. I feel helpless. On Saturday night, dd resisted sleep until 1 am, then woke at 3am and was awake until 6.30am. I had 2 hrs sleep. ,The amount of wind she passed after giving a beaker full of juice was incredible. She was obviously alot happier after!

Let me know what you find out, I've done my own research, and not come up with anything conclusive. Seen at leat 6 specialists (1 Gastro doc and they have not backed what I have said) It makes you feel very alone & they made me feel like an over anxious silly mother. One actully told me to go home and read a book about babies with sleep problems. I neally told him what he could do with the book!!! (sorry getting annoyed remebering that appointment)

Anyway sorry for ranting on, if you want to exchange em addresses for the future, I would be happy to provide u with mine.

ebbie22 · 26/07/2004 10:51

Try lying dd on her bk,put her knees up and then slowly rock side to side...hope it helps..

gloworm · 26/07/2004 11:33

also try lying baby on back, bend knees and gently push knees into tummy. do this a few times and usually helps wind to come out.

spod i was just wondering if you ever used the probiotics? our dd was quite windy on saturday, we gave her ABC in 2 bottles and she was fine by bedtime.
