DH and I had a very stressful time and chose not to have sex for a while. Was only 4-6 weeks without and we aren't very active generallySad. First time of doing it for the next few days I was burning and had a fishy smelling odour. On returning home saw ooh doctor and he diagnosed something beginning with t. Gave me antibiotics. Results back three days later - negative for everything Confused. I took the antibiotics as I had started them and nurse said wouldn't hurt to finish the packet.

Nurse said after being under huge stress it was my body's way of reacting and I had developed an allergy to my husband. Advised to use condoms. This we have but still the same. Burning days later and bad odour. Spoke to pharmacist, she recommended condoms and ky jelly. Apart from the fact using these two things is horrible I am still having the same reaction. Has even happened after solo orgasm but I'm not sure if delayed reaction from sex.

We can't work out if it takes longer for the burning/odour to come back if just condoms or those with the jelly though obviously I am wishing I had made a note.

I'm feeling so fed up. Our personal life has been blighted for a very long time and now that things are sorted and we are in a position to enjoy it, I'm allergic to him.

Please can anyone help?

Sorry Op

Not laughing. Hope you get it sorted soon

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 11/01/2016 09:38

Spoke to doctor. Not ideal time to deal with on phone. Really make you feel rubbish.

Has agreed to do a form for me to have a blood test on day 21 of my cycle then to go back in two weeks but not sure what for as line was bad so I will just ask the nurse. Previous test was April.

Please don't be fobbed off.

You need TWO tests for this- one on days 2-5 and the other later in month.

I think you need to make an appt with a gynae - beg steal or borrow the money if you can't manage £150- and get someone who knows what they are doing.

One test is no good. Hormones are all over the place in peri so one test shows the state of them on that day alone.

if your GPs don't know this then you are going to have to insist, educate them, or take yourself out of the NHS system and get someone who knows what to do.

it's really not the sort of conversation to have by phone and TBH it would be a lot less hassle and cheaper for them if they gave you some blinking oestrogen cream and you tried it.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 11/01/2016 10:11

It had to be by phone as the doctors phone triage then decide if you're allowed an appointment. New system.

I was going to ask the nurse for a second test when I saw her. They can do forms I think. If that is what I end up doing should I wait for day 2-5 of my period for the first test? Day 21 is next Wednesday for me so easily another month before I get anywhere.

what's coming over is that seem to have problems asking for what you want.

This is all getting terribly long winded and complicated.

Why can't you ask for an appt with a GP and go and discuss the issue properly? Receptionists have no right to determine who sees a dr, or ask about your health issues on the phone, no matter how much they might try to.

All you have to say is it's confidential / personal and you need an appt.

Asking a nurse seems to be avoiding taking control of it and hoping she will sort it out when the person you need to speak to is the dr.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 11/01/2016 10:30

I asked for an appointment. I was told the doctors are phone triaging then deciding who needs an appointment. The doctor rang and it was as I said above.

I think you need to take a step back and think this through.

You have- we assume- been misdiagnosed twice.

You now can't get an appt to see a dr without discussing your problem with them by phone first.

Is there no other practice you can change to?

I don't know what you said to the dr on the phone but a conversation along the lines of being tested for epri meno should not be handled by phone. It needs an appt.

If you aren't willing to push for this, or see someone privately, or change GPs then I don't know what to suggest.

You have not responded once to several of us suggesting you go privately.

Maybe you can't afford it- fair enough- but I am thinking you aren't reading the replies here.

Hope you find an answer.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 11/01/2016 10:39

I am reading every reply. I'm on the phone to the hospital now while reading the website of the private hospital. If the tests have to be done at a set date then going privately today doesn't seem the right thing to do given I'm about day 12.

It's highly unlikely that you would get a same day appt with a consultant- in fact I'd be worried if you did because they would appear not to very popular!

You are more likely to find there is a wait of anything from 2 weeks upwards. Some very eminent consultants have a waiting list of months (so goodness knows how long to see them on the NHS.)

You aren't booking a blood test- you are booking a consultation where all your symptoms and previous treatment will be looked at, then they will decide on a course of action.

Only1scoop · 11/01/2016 11:24

I've seen 3 different very reputable consultants at our private hospital and my wait has been between 1 day and 1 week.

I wouldn't mess around Op

Google who specialises and ask hospital etc read all about them and book an appointment.

Where I live It costs between 140 to 200 pounds for an initial consultation.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 11/01/2016 11:37

Just had a long chat with a lovely lady at the hospital who is going to get my referral sent through today and then she will call me back.

Maybe the OP doesn't want to go private! Anyway, OP, hope your appt comes through soon. In the meantime have you tried an ice pack for the burning? Sitting on an ice pack or pack of frozen peas can be excellent for this kind of thing.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 11/01/2016 21:27

Ask them to test for lichen sclerosis, and good luck with everything

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 22/02/2016 12:26

Just in case anyone has the same symptoms I thought I would update.

I have Vulvovaginal atrophy but have also been referred for an ultrasound and for something else I'd rather not say.

Thanks everyone for all your kind advice.

Flowers
MedicalAdviceNeeded · 23/02/2016 17:10

Thank you for the flowers. I've been so tired and a bit weepy today. I nodded off earlier too. I feel like I'm not well but don't know what is going on. I've a lot of emotional stuff to deal with too and I think it's getting too much.
